Ok, so now I've had a good old read about the place after joining last week, I'm looking for a long term rent whilst I have a good old nosey around the area. Does anyone out there either have, or know anyone who does have an apartment available for long term rental? Anything considered, apart from unfurnished obviously. Looking forward to an adventure!!! Thank you.
-
Try Sahibinden website, they have some on there.
There doesn't seem to be that many around though.
When we arrived 2 years ago we found that most of the adverts in the Land of Lights were very out of date but did find a good agent as a result of one of our phone calls and he found our current house for us. I can give you his name and number if you would like it, but you would need to pay him an agents fee of one months rent, although we felt he was worth every lire as he helped us set up tv, Internet etc too and has remained a helpful loyal friend.
There are sometimes some adverts on the buy and sell Fethiye property Facebook page.
-
Hi Kayakebab and thank you very much. Yes please, I would be gratefulfor anything you can send me which might get me a place there. This is great! I didn't expect a reply so quickly. Thanks very much indeed!
-
You're welcome. The mans name is Firuz, 05449446634. If he hears of anything he will let you know.
I looked on Sahibinden this morning and was surprised to see quite a few apartments, so you might be lucky!
Try and negotiate on prices as a lot seem pretty steep.
Good luck
-
Also get in touch with Engin Fersiz at Fethiye Property Services. He's got his finger on the pulse and will probably have some useful contacts for you.

Hi again Kayakebab. I'm on there now but of course I don't speak the language so that makes it difficult to read and it gives a warning on renting so I'll be careful but will use the number you gave me. Thank you.
KKOB....thank you too. Another string to my bow with your reply. I'm hoping this is going to be as easy as it's appearing to be this far!!
-
BTW Engin speaks very good English.
-
Haha....thank God for that!! :D
-
Firuz also speaks perfect English.
For Sahibinden you need to look for Konut, - properties, then Kiralik which means for rental.
Satilik means for sale.
Daire is an apartment, villa is a.... Villa! Ev is house.
It's quite straightforward after that.
Also try installing google toolbar which will give the option to translate the page.
-
In terms of warnings, I would avoid anyone that asks for money up front, I've known people who pay a year or even 2 years rent in advance.
If you wouldn't do it in the Uk don't do it in Turkey.
-
And make sure that you get everything in writing and a translation.
-
And make sure as part of that written contract that it is quite clear who is responsible for maintenance of the building etc. I have known people rent properties with major faults developing like roof leaks, and the owner says he is not interested and they can get it fixed if they want.
-
Interturk Estates in Calis, Cenk and Olga, nice couple and both speak English, the owners of six appartments on the complex im on are with them and all do long term rentals.
-
Thank you everybody for all this info. It seems I've enough to keep me busy for a week or more. I'm wondering if the only way to do it really would be to come out and stay in a hotel for a while if I'm going to need things in writing with a translator etc!! Would anybody think that's the only sensible thing to do?
-
Desmartinson, thank you for that information also. Do you have a phone number for me please? Also, are you happy where you live? Thanks.
-
That's what we did. We booked into the Harman for a week thinking it would be easy to find somewhere furnished and move in straight away.
This was after leaving our jobs, having a big leaving party and arriving with 20kg of luggage each!
We ended up booking an additional week in the Harman, by which time we were all sorted albeit with an unfurnished house.
We did lots of homework first, with masses of help from people on this great forum.
You'll be fine!
-

Cenk is a member of CBF May, you can e-mail him here or e- mail me if you wish and i will give you their contact details, yes been here 3 years now and would recommend Interturk estates highly to anyone, 1st class service.
-
Well, I've done nothing yet. I haven't been in touch with any of these people because I'd like to make a visit and actually see where I'd be before I accept anything. I had a couple of messages re short term rentals but I can't get hold of the Members again. Maybe they don't come on the Forum very often so if there's anyone out there who would like to rent out their empty place for a couple of weeks out of season whilst I have a mosey around, I'd be happy to hear from you. :)
-
Very good plan. I think I'd get in touch with all three and ask them to show you what's available while you're there if I were you. You don't have to take anything if you're not sure but at least there'd be a focus to your visit. That's what I'd do anyway but then I'm impatient when I'm excited about something like this. ;D
Cenk's email address is info@interturk.co.uk. He's great. Good luck.
-
Thanks SuzzPuss. Every little bit of info helps. It's okay going for a couple of weeks but as for buying, I think it's probably important to try before you buy and I intend doing a 12 month stint so I know exactly what the life is like. I've all kinds of things to find out though because I'd have to take Residency and no idea how much that costs or how difficult it is to get. Just imagine if I paid 12 months rental and then had to get out after 90 days!! I would hope nobody wanted 12 months upfront anyway. Do you happen to know anything about this? :-\
-
Hi, yes very sensible to try before you buy. In our experience we were offered a contract to either pay monthly, or to pay 12 months up front. I think the advantage of paying 12 months is that you can negotiate a lower rate. If you're unsure, go for the monthly with one month notice on both sides.
-

I don't know I'm afraid but Lotty's advice to start with monthly renting sounds sensible. As for trying before you buy we didn't do that but I do think it's a really good idea. Especially if you're going to live there rather than just have it as a holiday home. Really good luck.
-
Just a thought, and others with more experience might shout me down, but do you really have to buy at all? I mean, if you have a property here in UK could you not just rent that out and keep renting in Calis? Prices in UK are as low as they're ever likely to be right now so if you sell up and move to Turkey you're pretty much burning your boats here for ever coming back. I've thought that before about people moving away. I suspect that's what I'd do. It's what I did, in fact, when I moved to America for a few years and it turned out to be a great financial move for me. None of my business of course but I just thought I'd mention it.
-
Thanks Lotty and SuzzPuss. More and more I'm realising that i must be careful. I just hope that once i get there I can obtain residency or I'm out after 90 days whether I like it or not and then not in again for another 90 days. What a waste of a years rental if that were to happen! I'm really not tight but whilst I'm doing this I have to be aware that all my direct debits are still going out here in England and there's no way I'd rent my home out here. Decisions, decisions!!
-
are you still looking for a place and how long is long term?? :)
-
you seem to be getting confused mrs bucket lol, no one has to do a years rental, its the norm to pay a months deposit, then pay every month or 3,6 or whatever you wish, if you decide to leave or indeed the owners decide to terminate your tenancy you will be reimbursed, just make sure you go with a recommended agent. have you talked to interturk estates yet, cenk and olga as i gave you their details. entirely you choice, i just try to advice you dont do it alone. ; ps with regards to residency no problem, your rental agents will help you with that as well, hope this helps. regards Des.
-
Amanda, long term is a year I think. That would give me the time to experience all the seasons. I want to see the good and the bad. :)
-
Hi we have a Apartment and a private Villa to rent out in Calis both new for long or short term, you are more than welcome to view at any time.
Whoever you rent from you should only pay one months rent in advance. its the safest way.
-
Hi Gary Hambling. Could you please give me more info please? This is sounding promising!!
-
Hi i will message you now.

did i not just say that Gary, the poor woman wont know what she is doing soon.
-
and a newbie jumps right on in there too lol
If you want my opinion I'd go with one of the recommended agents on here and NOT private
-
I'd go along with Anne there. If Gary's legit he'd be better off doing his rental through one of the recommended people anyway.
-
Yes isn't it amazing how many people on here have nothing to offer but their property for rent
-
Thought that would wind you up Scunnnnnner lol ;@)
-
I think it would take a little more than someone giving nothing and taking what they can to wind me up after 10 years of doing this, Gary old boy. Glad you saw the topic and opportunity to make money. If only you'd seen the topic about the little kids being taught in a freezing cold school with a leaking roof and toxic toilets, you could have made a contribution.
-
;D ;D ;D
-
Leaving aside the question as to why you think it is necessary and/or clever to wind up someone who affords the opportunity to use an open forum for your advantage, would you care to tell us 1) if you saw the Bozalan thread and 2) did you participate.
-
I think I can answer all that quite easily :)
It's funny (nearly) - the people that come here to circle like vultures looking for opportunities to make many free hundreds of pounds (from renting their properties) nearly always contribute nothing to our good causes, and the people who contribute the most and the most often have nothing to rent and nothing to gain.
-
Hey less of the old boy please scunner, think you been to check out my D.O.B then you will realise I'm young enough to be your grandson :D.
Having three young children of my own and full time work
I only really have the time usually to come on here and look
at the recent.
I do believe that charity starts at home But I am always willing and do help others.
Every Christmas here in my home town I do help out with a local charity and is very for filling.
Me and my wife are coming to Calis next week to check up on the (Villa And Apartment) that we are hoping to rent, so if you like you much older than me Scunner perhaps we could meet up for a beer and a chat about this donation. :)
-

Ah yes, so I see
(http://www.calis-beach.co.uk/hambling.jpg)
Old boy is just a term for another bloke where I'm from - I'm surprised you took exception at such a tame term.
Most people just donate if they want to, they don't request a meeting to discuss their fiver. If I met up with everyone who wants to meet me for a beer when I'm in Calis I'd do nothing else. I will not be in Calis next week. Obviously I am devastated.
-
And so you should be, I don't normally donate to any Tom Dick Harry or Scunner but if you send me the details I will seriously consider it, oh and I don't mean just the charity number and bank details.
I do like it how you manage to turn a conversation on a renting topic to a charity,
I think if you want to discuss your charity then perhaps you should start another thread.
Perhaps even charge people to use this site and you could use the money for your charity then you
Could let people carry on with the main topic.
Start another thread and let me know ;)
-
I'm not going to discuss this with you anymore Gary. It's a public forum, we don't "send details" - people find the topic and donate or don't, I don't chase anyone and certainly won't be starting any new topics about it. You seem to miss all those topics completely anyway, unlike the topics that are opportunities for you to make money - which you find without problem.
I want to be absolutely clear to everyone on CBF about this.
I run this pub and everyone is welcome to visit. I love the way people help when others need advice and regulars and newbies alike share information and experiences with everyone else. Some put their change in the charity box on the bar and some don't, whether they do or not it doesn't bother me.
The one thing I can't stand is people who come into pubs to sell something. They don't buy a beer, they don't share a story, they don't have any answers to the questions or concerns the other regulars might have. When they are challenged by the landlord they question and wriggle and try to justify that what they are doing is perfectly acceptable behaviour. It is not, and never will be.
You see, I believe that the people in the pub who give should maybe be allowed to take a little. I believe that people that enter my pub because they are hawking something and for no other reason should not be allowed to. They believe they should be allowed to.
It's amazing in my pub because I always get my way on this, my most treasured admin policy.
Bye Gary.
-
With apologies to Mrs Hyacinth Bouquet, who is only looking for somewhere to rent. If anyone can help with this or any future requests for rental please contact via PM, sadly Gary won't be able to for future ones.
-
Sorry, my post deleted.
-
Wondered how long it would take you
-
And me, surprised it took 35 mins ! ;)
-
I was out :D
-
Fill 'em up Landlord, and 'ave one yerself ! ;)
-
OMG....that got horrid! Feeling quite upset.
-
It didn't get horrid May, we are trying to run a community website here, where people help each other here. Sadly some people just prowl it to look for opportunities to make money, and they never help anyone but themselves. We won't allow that - perfectly reasonable and not horrid at all.
-
Mrs bucket oops sorry bouquet - look at it as protection of the new and innocent.
-
Yes, I'm sorry, I realise that now and have just been told by a lady on here by private message that you can smell one a mile off!!
As I replied to her, I was somewhat surprised by how he wrote and spoke on here because the private message I got from him wasrather jumbled and he said that "calls" is not busy in summer. Even I know that it's "Calis" and that it IS busy! I won't give up......thank you/
-
I think the private email tells you all you need to know Mrs Bouquet and vindicates scunner's stance on the matter.
I feel sure there will be loads of help for you on here - I certainly hope so. ;D
-
Getting back to topic Mrs H/B - tell us again what you are looking for and when. We have 10,000 members, I am sure we can sort something for you between us :)
-
Hi Scunner
Just somewhere quiet where I can chill and sit in the sun. I'm getting on a bit now!! :) That's basically it. Hopefully to find some friends and enter into the spirit of the community there so I'm able to make an informed decision as to whether to buy. Wifi if possible for keeping in touch with home and a nice landlord!! :)
-
Ok and dates - or permanent?
-
I thought I'd try a year and then I can experience every season, with a short trip out in September as my son has just been here today to tell me he's getting married on his 30th birthday in September!
-
he said that "calls" is not busy in summer.
Calls! LOL no wonder he needs to circle like a vulture on CBF with marketing skills like that :D
-
Hi peeps!!
I'm still looking if by any chance there's anybody around this evening who knows or has anything which would be any good to me.......eager to begin my adventure!! :)
-
Hi everybody
I would just like to say a BIG thank you to all who have helped me, whether it actually helped or not, if you know what I mean!!
I have been contacted by a lovely lady from the forum here, all booked now and looking forward so much to my quiet bit of Turkish delight!!!
Many thanks!!!
-
enjoy :)
-
Thank you Amanda and thank you for your help too.
Found a lovely lady with a lovely apartment in a very quiet area. Bliss! :)
