Title: National Lottery entry fee to Double
Post by: Rimms on January 16, 2013, 17:27:20 PM
Those nice lottery people have announced that the prize for choosing 3 correct numbers will rise from £10 to £25 and both Saturday and Wednesday average jackpots will increase, then they go on to say that your ticket will cost you £2 per line, that's a 100% increase. I hope the cost of lottery tickets are counted in the RPI which determines the percentage my pension increases each year.

No need for you to worry mate. If your numbers come up, you won't be entitled to the winnings anyway.

That's why I have made and expression of wish in your favour, but seeing this increase I think I'll call it a day.

Funnily enough George I said as much to Billy tonight.
We don't play every week anyway so the few quid is better in our pockets than Camelot

I thought that too and stopped after a man working in the same hospital as me one over a million.  A few years later the £161million on the Euro lottery was one by a retired nurse manager who worked in the same health board !!!

Does that mean I'll be saving twice as much by not playing it? Wonder what I'll spend the extra money on?

I see the big day when we have to start paying twice as much for our National Lottery tickets in the UK is Saturday 5th October 2013:

What is new Lotto?

Get ready for some exciting changes to Lotto.

From Saturday 5th October, there will be more ways to win more money.

Lotto will cost £2, creating bigger jackpots and a brand new raffle with at least 50 guaranteed winners of £20,000 in every draw. Plus, matching just 3 numbers will now win you £25!

A brand new raffle

Now, every line you play also gets you automatic entry into the new Lotto raffle. Your raffle numbers will be printed on your ticket and every draw we'll be guaranteeing at least 50 winners of £20,000. So now there are two things to check on your ticket.

We're putting twice as much in the prize pot

The table below shows the exciting changes we're making to Lotto's prizes, including bigger jackpots and £25 for matching 3 numbers.

Ways to win

Lotto before
5th Oct

New Lotto

Match 6 (jackpot)† Sat £3.9m Sat £5m
  Wed £2.1m Wed £2.5m
Match 5 plus Bonus Ball† £100,000 £50,000
Match 5† £1,500 £1,000
Match 4† £60 £100
Match 3 £10 £25

† Estimated. As is currently the case with Lotto, the prizes stated for Match 4, Match 5, Match 5+Bonus and Match 6 are an average of what we anticipate prizes will be. These will vary depending on sales, but also the number of winners in a draw for any given prize tier.

More exciting Rollovers

New Lotto is making Rollovers more exciting than ever before. Now when the jackpot rolls, the number of raffle winners of £20,000 grows, creating even more guaranteed winners.

The table below shows how the number of raffle winners grows with each Lotto roll.

Number of raffle winners‡

Lotto draw 50
Single Rollover 100
Double Rollover 150
Triple Rollover 200
Quadruple Rollover 250

‡Over time, the actual number of raffle prizes offered on Rollover draws may change. Any change will be communicated beforehand.
