Basically what is says below is now in the local buses(not dolmuses, the big blue buses in fethiye) instead of money you will use a card, where you can buy it for 12 lira from the fethiye council , you can top it up to 50 lira and normal fee is 1 lira, discounted fee is 50 kurus and free for if you are 65. at the moment you can only get the cards from belediye but soon you will be able to get and top up credits from various authorized shops. to get it you need a picture and a copy of your id , if you want free card if you are over 65, you need your ikamet in addition the previous documents.
i will try to translate the local news for you as much as i can have time, i am sorry if i have done any grammar mistakes.

Thanks Yusuf, this sort of information and translation is very useful to us Brits.
Does it mean you can buy a card, or does it mean you must use a card now? As in, you couldn't get on and pay cash anymore if you don't have a card?
-
you can still use cash at the moment, but eventually it is a process of using belediye cards everywhere,
-
'ikamet' what does this mean ??
-
An Ikamet is a long-term visa for a stay in Turkey.
-
gosh thanks, do I know you?? ;)
-
When coming to Turkey as a foreigner, you will have to get a visa at the customs office. This is called Tourist visa and is valid for three months. In order to apply for a work permit, you need an Ikamet. An Ikamet is available for various periods: one month, two months, three months, six months, one year, two years, four years and five years.
To apply for a work permit you need an Ikamet for at least six months.
(Good old Google) ;D

'ikamet' what does this mean ??
Your Ikamet is your residency permit. I expect they will only want to give the free pass to pensioners actually living here.
-
thankfully I am a few years away from my free bus pass in any language!
-
thanks for the info

We are over in June, will we be able to pay cash on the blue bus, or will it be restricted to this bus card by then. Whereabouts is the office where you can buy the bus card please ?
-
The Belediye bus I was on today already had a card reader installed next to the driver.
-
And it will be working in 2015
-
I wonder if it will have a locals and tourist versions?

But what happens when it's his day off.
-
And it will be working in 2015
But the bus will not .
-
The planned 'green' Calis to Fethiye electric bus service has also been cancelled as nobody could find a 6km extension lead.
-
It doesn't say in the text that 65+ need to show their ikamet. It says that they need to show their ikametgah belgesi. This is a certificate of residency and can be obtained from the Nufus building next to the municipality.
-
Just come back from Antalya and they have the same system there. It seems to work well and at the moment you can pay cash ıf you have not got a card. I presume ıt deducts the fare automatıcally from your pre paıd card. When we were ın Izmır last year you had to have a pre paıd card for all transport .
-
Taking card only isn't ideal for a place where large amounts of people have never been before and are not familiar with public transport or those who only come for a week or a fortnight holiday. I can't imagine too many holiday makers finding the Belediye office above Migros and getting a card. I know they can use the dolmuses but why make one way of getting to Fethiye impossible for tourists? The idea is to make everything easy for people on holiday, believe it or not.
-
Especially with the price of the Belediye bus fare being half that of the Dolmus fare,at the moment.

Anyone interested in buying ..... Go to cash desk, next to water bill desk. Pay your money. Get receipt. Take receipt to desk over by disabled person lift. It is on your right as you go through security arch.
If you are under 65. Just pay 12tl per card ain't the cash desk.
Please note that the 12tl is only for the card. You'll must then buy units touse your card.
Given that there is no discount for under 65, I decided not to bother.
