My dad wasn't particularly young, his first car was a Cortina because he passed his test in his 40s.
-
I haven't got a picture of the car my dad had(http://) but I know it was a Humber. It had the bit outside for standing on n like this one. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.humber.org.uk/Rallies_files/1992_ManningtheEntraceGate.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.humber.org.uk/Rallies.htm&h=659&w=1009&sz=165&tbnid=c10jRX66Ai8tjM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=138&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhumber%2Bcar%2Bpictures%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=humber+car+pictures&usg=__L0Yh3meOWSLvZ9ljeZSnwg5u5Vs=&docid=0rZGdkLH6I4_iM&sa=X&ei=c7pEUZXrEeqM4ATTvICACA&ved=0CFkQ9QEwDA&dur=58

Is that a Humber John?
Later on my Dad also got a Cortina, I thought it was a super car because it had a warning sign above the back bumper "Disks"
-

-
I rather hope it's a Hillman Minx
-
Morris 1100
-
1958 Standard Pennant
-
George
An Anglia 105E was one of my first cars and i also had a MK3 GTCortina in Sebring red like Keith's dad. Those were the days 8)

-
My dad never drove but I had an old pea green Ford Anglian too when I passed my test! My own car !
-
Ford Anglia
-
Certainly not a minx H it looks like a Standard to me, I had a 1958 Standard Ensign for twelve years as a classic car :)
my dads car was a Morris 10 :D
My first car was exactly the same car as Rimms pic :D ;)
on closer inspection you could be right H but an early one :)
-
H's photo is I think a Hillman minx they were very similar to the Ensign - I think his photo is of a dinky toy one.
-
My Dad's first and only car was a Ford Popular. He bought it second-hand, kept it in the garage, but he failed half a dozen driving tests and eventually sold it to a friend. He never did pass his driving test.

I can't stop admiring my Aston Martin - It's my fav Dinky toy :)

I don't remember my Dad's first car but he did have one of these Vauxhall Cresta's - same type for sale on ebay for £1599 !! don't think he paid a third of that from new -
even remember the reg - 3121 KF

-
The year we never had a holiday as he bought a car :D
-
My Dads first car was one if these as he only had a motor bike licence at the time.
I used to beg him not to pick me up from school.
(No idea why it's uploaded 2, tapatalk has been horrible since latest update)
-
I picked it because I liked the colours Tink...
(http://s9.postimage.org/oio7uyaaj/minx3.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/oio7uyaaj/)
-
Our family never having a car when I was young, I always longed for one and especially loved Crestas, so American looking and sleek!
-
In taking Lotty's point and going slightly off topic, I used to think this was a fabulous car when it came out
(http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/images/car_info/large/renault_fuego.jpg)
What was I thinking.
-
My Dad's was a Vauxhall Victor then another Vauxhall Victor, then a Cresta with leather bench seats, which was my favourite. He took us on holiday all the way from Liverpool to Barcelona in all three of these cars.
-
I must say that while it may have been embarrassing at the time, kayakebab's dad's first car looks incredibly cool to me :)
-
Trust me it wasn't. It even had to be kick started like a motorbike, and I seem to recall there was no reverse gear.
The next one wasn't much better:

Haha, just googled it, I'm surprised I'm not scarred for life

(http://s23.postimage.org/sxhn5k2kn/Austin_A30_saloon.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/sxhn5k2kn/)
This was my Dads 1st car. We travelled all the way to Butlins at Ayre in Scotlad for holidays at least twice that I can remember. Not bad travelling from Tyneside.
-
My father's first car was a SWIFT but I don't know which manufacturer made it.
If I recal correctly Kayakebab the 3-wheelers could be driven on a motor cyscle licence if the reverse gear had been physically removed!
-
After the Cortina my Dad got one of these, Vauxhall Victor Estate, bench seats, column shift and fake metal side panels that were supposed to look like wood. His was a maroon colour and was his pride and joy
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/17/dejahuja.jpg)
-
I know off subject but this was my 1st car. Anyone identify it?
(http://s2.postimage.org/a9cn79105/Vauxhall_Firenza_droppsnoot.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/a9cn79105/)
-
Vauxhall Firenza 2300 droopsnoot as raced by Gerry Marshall :)
Rimms ,I think thats a Cortina estate.
-
Very good, but mine was the 1600 version
-
The words at the top tend to give it away Eric :)
I was thinking Opel Manta up till then
-
Please comment on the car, not the driver !

Correct Bewva. Kieth, the manta used the same body a few years later.
-
Austin Healey 3000 perhaps Rimms .
-
Morris 1100
Ditto, in British racing green, GEN 722. First year after split windscreen. I meant Morris 1000 not 1100, must have had too many ciders ;D
-
white cortina reg E00726B. a few years later he bought an anglia estate it was turquoise with a yellow wing and a brown door and cost the princely sum of £50 ;D
-

The windscreen wash was a pump under the dashboard Dad fitted himself.
This van replaced our Velocette and homemade sidecar when I was about 6.
Then it went downhill when he got a Comma Cob van, Never liked that thing and looking at Google Images, I can see why.
-
It's a Turkish flour van!
Can I tell you Rindy, as an enthusiast myself that today 5 grand probably wouldn't get you one of those :o
-
MGTF - his mum left him it when she died. It was red as well.

(http://s9.postimage.org/lbpwp1raj/wolsley.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/lbpwp1raj/)
iIt's a Wolsley 1500 . His reg plate was LSN 485 which would fetch a lot of money in today's private reg market
:)
-
They were lovely cars Rosemary and they were massive
-

Morris Oxford GLG 708B (not actual pic) , handed down from my grandma, used to sit on grandpa's knee and steer when I was 6-7 ish , also sit between driver and passenger and change gear , worn out in early seventies and abandoned for me to learn to drive in around her house till I siezed it up !

-
How times change Kevin !
-
As we seemed to have moved on, my very first car was one of these,
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/17/u4aryjyz.jpg)
Since then I've lost count of the cars owned or driven as a company car.
These days, just a bike.
-
My old man never had a car. Well he did have various loan ones through North Africa, Middle East and Italy, but they were all khaki coloured. He was though a proud owner of a 1950s BSA 500 motorcycle combination, and in fairness it did get us all about as a family when we were all young.
-
Oh yer and my first car was a 1961 green mini with a firbe glass front, with plenty of other rust spots. This mismatch of material and rust was soon solved as a problem when my brother and I repainted - by hand and brush - in a nice light blue, using the spare dulux paint from the shed!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
(http://s7.postimage.org/4iw7re4ev/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/4iw7re4ev/)
It was a big Vauxhall car like this, late 1950s, but with running boards at the side a bit 'Al Capone style' I remember the starting handle having to be used frequently & having hot water bottles in the winter! :). Maria
-
Some of these old cars are beautiful and as George say, some were really big inside. I loveseeing the vintage car rallies, often seen during the sumer around these parts.
My own first car was a red Hillman Husky bought very second hand in 1974
(http://s24.postimage.org/sagasjz8h/Hillman_Husky_Audax_S3_registered_1966_1390_cc.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/sagasjz8h/)
And my car now - A Fiat 500 Lounge
(http://s2.postimage.org/fuufa04yd/fiat.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/fuufa04yd/)

This is the first one I remember clearly WNH 14L
-
Btw, you can check if the car is still out there at https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquiry?execution=e2s1
If the date of liability is current then it is still going

Which was a lot smarter than my first car. So is the one in the photo - mine had rubber front wings.

Spooky !
I went Bantam, Triumph Tiger 90, Wolseley 1500 and then a Mini with fibreglass front
(p.s. remember to do up the bonnet catches before testing the brakes after repair - OUCH !!!!)

(http://s14.postimage.org/ddyfnkxnh/tractor.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/ddyfnkxnh/)

-
Morris 1000 reg 6242D leather seats. lovely car. That was my first car . My fathers was a Ford poplar van.

-
Nobody has mentioned the good old Morris Traveller. My husband had one when we met.
-
Ours was a new ford escourt van about £750 new rattled like an old tin box awful and years later up graded to an austin a35 luxury compared to the van.
-
My Dad had a reliant Robin.. He put bench seats in the back for us 3 kids. No windows. He drove us hundreds of miles in it allover the lake district for our holidays..It used to go up and down the 1 in 3 hills in Scotland with not a lot of trouble.. Or at least it seemed to us kids that it didnt.... I didnt pass my test until I was 40 so my first car was a Ford Sierra GL.. I absolutley loved it and cried when I left it on the forecourt after I traded it in for a new car... C123 XEO Not many people forget their first number plate..
-
My Dad never had a car as he never learnt to drive. As a family of 6 we used to go on our hols (in a caravan) every year to Blackpool on the Crossville bus and we had loads of fun as from the top deck we played a game of "First to spot the Blackpool Tower"!! My first ever car was a Datsun Bluebird 1800 which was originally orange and someone hand painted it in blue gloss paint - all went well until it rained before the paint dried and left it forever mottled!! Was a lovely car though - loved it !!
-
Morris 1100 926EJB The car I learnt to drive in ...My 2nd lesson I reversed into a tree .... :o
-
JFR 914N My first registration, a blue mini with two clothes pegs on the choke, and ventilation through the rust holes in the floor. I would regularly need to scrape the inside of the windows when it was frosty!! :)
