I have used the service often in both directions, the buses leave fethiye and marmaris every 30 minutes on the hour and half past. I normally walk to gunlukbasi and wait by the pummakale office, they will pick you up here. You can pay the driver on the bus, normally collect money at one of the stops. Last October cost about 20tl. When you get to marmaris there are colour coded dolmus routes into the centre. The dolmus service within marmaris does not like you to take suitcases into the dolmuses.

So much to see and do in Marmaris that I don't think a day is long enough.  You can do an overnight, very cheaply.

Even on a day trip, take your passports. Our dolmas was stopped by polis and every one had to show identification.

Might think about a  trip down there this year, I suppose it's quicker by car.  I have heard that Icmeler is nicer than Marmaris though, so it might be worth staying over for a night or two.

Even nicer than Icmeler are Selimiye, Orhaniye & Bozburun, all just a little further down that peninsula

The Datça Peninsula is beautiful if you are taking a car.  Alternatively, if you go by bus you can get a bus from Marmaris to Datça itself.

Icmeler is nicer than Marmaris IMHO Jacqui. We used to stay in Icmeler quite a bit.
I would not thank you for a trip to Marmaris, but it is 12 years since I went so it must have changed.

There are some small pensions at Aktas, this is approx 15 minutes by the pink domus (leaves from tthe centre, Tansas and Mc Donalds), it is a small beach - there are beach clubs, so you can use their facilities if you have lunch there. Marmaris has had somewhat of a face lift in the past few years, all the seafront has been smartened up with some beautiful fountains / sculptures. A huge 'park' area has been created where there was once a multi story car park and Tansas. Having said this, the clientel who frequent the town have changed little, Bar Street, still thrives, the indoor Bazar heaves at night time. The prices - food and drink, in Marmaris tend also to be higher than Fethiye unless you are looking for an English Breakfast, then you are in luck, last year we spotted them being sold for as little as 3TL!!!.

Although I wouldn't choose to holiday in Marmaris, the new upgraded promenade is lovely for a stroll. Hundreds of years ago we took a boat trip to Turunc from Marmaris and I fancy going back for a look to see how it's developed also.

The Olive Farm shop, on the road into Datca is worth a visit. Sign posted, on the right hand side of the road going to Datca, about 5 km before the main town of Datca itself. Also Eski Datca, approx 2 km from the Olive farm towards Datca,is worth a look - as it says, the old town, narrow cobbled streets, restaurants and cafes, few shops and stalls in the some of the streets. Very good to visit in the evening.
