Sorry.i don t know the Turkish name for this bread...Can anyone tell me where this is served with your meal as opposed to the flatter pitta type bread? Either Fethiye or Calis ? :P
-
the zayhra restaurant opposite café pazaar do the puffy bread. hope that helps
-
When we came for the first time on 2009, nearly everywhere served it. Not the case now.
:)
-
Lavas (lavash) Seckin restaurant in Gunlukbasi serve it if that helps Maria
-
George's on the prom in Calis do it as do Pasa Kebap in Fethiye.
-
2nd vote for George's they have an oven at the front of the restaurant where you can watch them making your puffy bread...they serve it with nice garlic butter... If you go you must try the Chicken Topkapi, which is my favourite of any meal in the area. George's is always our first place to eat and Chicken Topkapi is my first order...

It is also less common out of season we have found as a lot of places may not have their Pizza ovens lit.

Hi Nichola ,is Ocakbasi along the harbour in Fethiye?
-
The Mulberry Tree and Iskele in Fethiye and The Nil Bar in Calis all serve lavas at night with dinner.
-
Also Megri serve it, well they do in summer.

I am puzzled by puffy bread; I really don't see the point of it. It looks quite interesting when it arrives at the table but as soon as it is opened it collapses into a couple of flat layers. For the 30 seconds it is far too hot to touch, let alone eat. Ten seconds after that it is stale with the texture and taste of cardboard. I am surprised that so many people like it.

On our very first visit to the area, about 8 years ago, we ate in Hisaronu and were amazed to see these 'things' appearing at tables, and were speculating madly on what delights might be in them, we were very disappointed when ours arrived, to find nothing!! (and not very dunkable I don't think)
A basket of lovely fresh cut bread for me anytime please :)

Hot Lavas bread is delicious with garlic butter and esme, I always go for the crispy well done bits usually underneath. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't like it! We used to always get it at the Orient in Calis and one night many years ago Falcon let our daughter make her own and cook it in the hot oven at the back of the restaurant - she was well pleased. Got to say though you don't see it as much anymore, mores the pity!!
-
I agree with Chris, I love it and its gorgeous with garlic butter and that strong crumbly cheese and walnuts like they do at Iskele in Fethiye harbour.
-
Well I'm feeling hard done by now, cheese and walnuts for me please!

Sorry this is a bit late but yes it is; a couple of hundred metres up on the same side of the road as MacD's
-
Eroz do it too! We used to go over to Fethiye( yes all that way!) just for that bread years ago as no-one served in it calis - then it was only the Megri in Fethiye that had it! Worth the schleppe!
-
Last time we were in Guven's we got it before our meal. Love it when it's hot but not so much when cold. This means burnt fingers but it's worth it :)
-
We love the 'puffy' bread, especially dipping it in the garlic/herb butter and eating it with salad etc.... Mmmmmmmmmmm :)
