Just noticed a similar post and thought this may evoke some memories -
Here's a few famous and also more obscure ones:
Youth Dew - late 1960's
Rive Gauche - early 70's
Aramis - early 70's
Aqua Manda - mid 60's
Styx - mid 60's
Tweed - early 60's
Blue Grass - 50's
Canoe - late 60's
I may be way out with the dates - feel free to correct me.
-
Evening in Paris (bought every mothers day), but l personally loved Midnight by Dorothy Gray, can still remember the smell
-
Oh and A'Toi by Atkinsons, divine smell
-
CREOSOTE.
Reminds me of a time I was left, alone, to treat around 200 yards of 6 foot high wooden fencing.
With a brush.
-
Shake n Vac - evokes memories of the snug in my favourite German Cruiser....
-
Oh, Youth Dew! Now that brings back memories! And none that I'm sharing on here either!! ;D
-
Brut!
Ahhhh, reminds me of many a pleasant snog.
-
Cusson's Apple Blossom always reminds me of my Mum.
-
Witch-hazel 50's and 60's, reminds me of the school First-Aid box and the printed test sheets where the lettering was sort of mauve. Loved it!!!!
-
Any guy's remember Aqua Di Selva Italian aftershave from the 60's? No splash it all over Brute for me ;)
-
4711 cologne, and my mum,, also Rive Gauche perfume and morning sickness (long time ago!!)
-
Caleche by Hermes. A beautiful, elegant perfume. My Mother once knew I was in Marks sand Spencer food department one day before she even saw me. She was following the fragrance around until she found me. I loved Canoe, from the hippy days of Patchouli etc. Was it by Dana? This is a fab subject. I could talk forever about the perfumes I've loved over the years. :)
-
Estee by Estee Lauder my mummy wore it all the time and the day before her funeral (a long time ago now)I was shopping for something to wear and that smell just seemed to be following me everywhere, I remember thinking it was a bit spooky but also very comforting :)

sorry, try this link
-
Earliest are - Avon Somewhere and Topaz, Noa Noa, Je Reviens ( morning sickness!), Youth Dew, Arpege, Rive Gauche, now I like Issey Miyake. Never could stand Opium or Poison, just way too strong.
-
This is going to be my kind of staying in Saturday evening. The link is amazing Bluwise, thank you. I'm going to be there ages now. Canoe was from Dana I see but I didn't think there were others by that manufacturer/designer, whatever. I'm going back to the link and I could be gone some time! Who said that?
-
I forgot to say about now. Now I mostly wear Chanel No5, Gucci Rush (the original), Thierry Mugler Angel or Alien. They languish in my fridge with my nail polishes because they stay perfect for so much longer.
-
My favourite was KL by Karl Lagerfeld. Didn't like the man but liked his perfume.
-
Elie Saab my current fave (it's a love or loathe one, no in-betweens) and my all time favourite is Bulgari (BLV - dark blue bottle).
Have to admit to wearing Poison all those years ago and only now friends tell me they hated it!
-
What about you men then? A bit of splash it all over Brut, or Aqua di Selva, Old Spice, Aramis . . .
-
....or, Lotty, as I've seen on Bluwise's link......Avon PUB for men!!! Hilarious.
-
Did you see the one called "Derrick"............
Wonder if the ladies' version was called Gladys?
Also noted the first fragrance specifically for Gay men - what the.......?
-
Antaeus .......swoon-worthy!
-
Yeh, I saw them all. Quite took my breath away some of them, hilarious!! I didn't know there'd been one called Intimate until the Beckham one either. This was a fab topic for you to choose and I hope it runs and runs. There's only one male fragrance for me though and that's the JPG in the bottle like a blue body. I've even bought it for my son but have no idea what it's called. I'd run after it though!!!
-
So nostalgic looking back at these fragrances all invoking their own special memories.....some bad tag lines in the older ads though.....so funny now!
-
It's very nostalgic and I've gone right back to the beginning so now I'm sure my lovely long gone Granny was fibbing when she always told me as a tiny child that she was wearing Ashes of Lavatories!! So funny when I look back.
Just remembered the one my son wears. Jean Paul Gaultier, Le Male. It's to die for.
I've not smelt the ones you wear. I'll have to go and have a sniff somewhere but I know the Bvlgari ones are fab.
-
When I was a kid I could'nt understand bottled "toilet water". Why would they want to BUY it.!! I used to pull the chain and get rid of GALLONS of it. ??? ???
-
Youth Dew reminds me of my wedding day and my Mum,who always wore it :) and for the men Brut splash it on all over and a lot ofd them did yuk :)
-
Yes my mum wore Youth Dew too! God bless her, my sister and I wore it too. Aw . . . Nostalgia. Funny how smells are associated to memories. I was thinking of the Saturday night dance in the late sixties and I could smell the mix of hairspray, perfumes, aftershaves, dust, sweat, smoke and wood!
-
Paco Rabanne and Aramis.

Morning Bluwise, I wish I understood the "reply with quote" but after trying umpteen times, I'm not getting there.
However, I've just looked up your Elie Saab perfume. I'd never ever heard of it and I've never heard of a Lebanese perfumier either. I will definitely go and have a sniff of this. Would you say it's a summer perfume and a day or night one?

Morning Mrs B - when you hit 'quote' a lot of text appears at the top - just make sure you put your cursor at the very end - after the bit that says [/quote]
I then use the preview option to make sure I haven't messed up (again)
(You can also delete out bits of the quote as long as you don't remove the [quote at the beginning or the [/quote at the end)
Elie Saab - now, I wouldn't call it a day perfume as to me they tend to be very light and often floral. This one is very distinctive and can pack a punch if over-sprayed. It's popularity is 50:50 amongst friends and as I mentioned it's a love or hate - nothing in between. To me it's a woody tone rather than a bouquet of roses.
I doubt this is helping - go have a sniff in Boots and let me know what you think.

Hi Mrs HB, you just click on quote (above the line and to the right on the quote you wish to use) this inserts the quote and opens in a reply box.
Please leave at least one line after the quote before you start to type your response. Hope this helps.

In stereo......hahahaaaaaaa (Jimmy's back) ;D ;D
-
You cheeky monkey!!!! Was not a quick as you ;D ;D
-
Two replies at exactly the same time to the second - amazing - I wonder if that has ever happened before.
Please ignore this really stupid post of mine:(
-
Hahahaaaaa....that was so funny ladies, thank you!! I'm going to have another try later after I've delivered eggs to 3 grandchildren who probably think I've got lost!!
-
4711 - reminds me of my Gran's hanky when she used to wipe my mucky chops -
Kiku - bright yellow and very trendy!
-
OMG I used to have Kiku!! Totally forgot about that one. My mum had Avon's Topaz too LOL.
Another earlier one I wore was Cinnabar by Estee Lauder. It was soooooo heavy!
Oh and another oldie I wore was Chloe Narcisse,
-
Yes the one that brings back the memories has to be Brut, it brings back memories of Ben Shermans, Levis, BRaces and Monkey boots. Come on ladies of that time and fashion you have to adit it was a turn on, which is why many of you wore it too!! As I remember a small 33cl bottle cost about six bob... worth every penny as a babe magnet ;D ;D ;D

My first "serious" girlfriend's house was having double glazing fitted the first time I was invited round. Even now I instantly think of her whenever I smell the vinegar odour of silicone sealant.
-
Keith this woman with the classy perfume, did she apply it to the wrists or the neck area, or did she have one of those mists and so would spray the silicone and vinegar in the air and walk through the vapours??
-
spring onions
