Post by: johntaylor49 on April 24, 2013, 18:06:47 PM
Thinking of driving to Cappadocia for a few days on this years Holiday in Sunny Calis. Anyone done it and have any comments? Anyone been by Bus and any comments and information? Anyone cant stop laughing that I would contemplate it?  :)

Why wouldn't you contemplate it, you will probably enjoy the drive.

We did it 5 years back.  10 hour drive but well worth it.  If I was to do it again I would stop overnight somewhere like Conyer on the way there, and somewhere different on the way back.

We broke the journey near Beysehir. Not much of a town but it has a fabulous 13th century mosque with cedar columns and is decorated with blue tiling.

There are usually adverts in the land of lights and sunexpress newspapers for cappadokia trips, usually last 4/5 days with stops on the journey including hotel accommodation. I think about £200 , will keep a look out over the coming months and post if I see anything.

The drive is lovely, it's up to 12 hours depending on which route and the benefit of having the car is that you can stop when you see something interesting, prepare to stop often!

Encouraging so far, was thinking of June when I am over but wondering if it will be too hot
and I should maybe do it on a visit with cooler weather, but then it may rain and that wouldnt be fun!
(Nearly me the old man with the big scythe in 2010 in an avalanche!  :) )

Trouble is with this sort of trip you can keep putting it off "when I retire" and then find you cant do it  :)

Have done it in February and also in June.  Even in June you needed  wraps/light jumpers if eating outside as it gets quite chilly in the evening

Easy by bus over night. 10 hours with many comfort stops. I have done it several times and have also done longer bus journeys like Amasya which is well worth the trip. Will be going to Trabzon in June 22hours to start an Eastern Turkey tour. So much cheaper by bus than buying petrol.

What a brilliant idea! I may have two othe rpeople wanting to go so if we shared 4 of us I guess the Diesle wont be so bad as from what I have seen the "tour" bus trip isnt cheap but I guess if you just got aBus from Fethiye retirn not so bad, imagine you have to pick up the main bus in Antalya
