Is anyone interested in going out for a few hours to a different place say once a month on the occasional photo shoot.
Purely for fun of course, no fee, any old camera will do and if we learn how to take better photos or how to use different functions on our cameras from each other then that's a bonus.
It is always interesting to see how people see the same scene or object from a different perspective through photography and we can combine with a beer and/or a snack at a nearby eatery to round off the day if we feel like it.
If you are interested just jot your name down below along with any ideas of places we can go and we can take it from there.

Plockton in Wester Ross ;)

We can have satellite groups H operating all around the UK ;)
I have the Isle of Skye on my list of places to photograph :)
-
This is something Billy would probably be interested in when we're over in June Nicola. Providing our dates match your trip
-
Assuming anyone else is interested Anne it would certainly be something people over on holiday could come along too if their dates coincide.
-
I will come along for the beer lol.
-
Great idea Nichola, I'm definitely interested if it coincides with when I am over in June.
-
Put me on your list please Nichola.
-
Hi Nichola
I would be interested depending which day and what time you would go, i will look out for your next posting on this

I have sent out an email to the 8 people who live here and have signed up for Photography for Fun and hope to confirm a date and the venue for the first outing soon - Apollo if you don't receive an email from me let me know; hopefully the email address I found for you in my contacts is still the same :)
-
Hi Nichola i would be interested too.
-
Mary please can you email or pm me with your email address and I'll forward the email I sent out when I get home later. It's just to establish people's availability and a suggestion for first outing. Thanks
-
received and replied thankyou Nichola.
-
We now have ten people signed up for Photography for Fun and our first outing is to Kayaköy on Tuesday 7th May early morning start getting there at 8.30am; we will meet by the Poseiden and Antik restaurant where there is plenty of parking available.
It seems like a good place to start with great views, spring flowers and lots of historical and cultural interest.
-
Just a reminder that the first photo shoot of Photography for Fun is tomorrow (Tuesday) and we are meeting bright and early at 8.30am in the car parking area by the Poseidon and Antik restaurants in Kayaköy.
With luck there will be some early morning mist, dew and cobwebs to go with the spring flowers, great views and falling down houses so if you have one bring a macro lens!
If anyone wants to join us we will see you there!
-
Nichola what an excellent idea, if I live there I would join! :)
Skye is ok, but there is better scenery in my humble view around Gairloch a bit further North :)
The Torridons, Loch Marie etc.
JT
-
John you will be more than welcome to join us when you are over on your hols, as is anyone else if the dates coincide.
We have a holiday maker joining us tomorrow and if we have enough notice most people have cars so we can probably help with transport.
I have seen some wonderful photos of Skye posted on FB by janmack but I understand much of Scotland has some fantastic scenery; the best in the world I have heard!
-
The next Photography for Fun outing is to Uzumlu on Monday 27th May meeting at the Winehouse at 3.30pm.
We will do a little wandering around photographing life in Uzumlu and then return to the Winehouse for 5.30pm for the live street music where Mario and the Super Band will be playing.
If anyone wants to join us just let me know. We may be able to help with transport from Fethiye/Çaliş.
-
I have added a link to this in the CBF calendar - I am keen to get many events and excursions in there so people can see what is on in Fethiye and Calis when they are over on their holiday :)
-
That's great thanks Keith.
Incidentally a couple of people tried to post images from the Kaya trip to this topic using the add image tab above, and couldn't.
If the images are more than 5mb and they use the resize option should the photos upload OK?
-
I have been having problems adding photographs on and off recently.
-
A few of us from "Photography for Fun" are going to be meeting up at the main stage in Fethiye Public Square, 7pm for the first night of the World Music Festival, part of the International Arts and Culture Festival.
You are welcome to join us.
Unlike the UK where you cannot get near the stage if its anything like last year there will be plenty of scope to position yourself where ever you want in order to capture some great photos of the performers.
-
If you have anything planned for the first half of June my OH would love to join you. I'm not a photographer but I'll happily come along for the après !
-
Nichola this is a great addition to the forum. So many people would love to be better at photography or simply share technical knowledge and to introduce it as a part of being on holiday in a beautiful place is simply a terrific idea. I'm sure it's gonna really take off. ;D
PS (also for interested locals)

More details about our Photography for Fun Outing this week.
Wednesday May 7th
4pm FESTIVAL PARADE will start at Tuesday Market, pass through Gaffar Okan Str., Atatürk Str., Çarşı Str., Hükümet Str. and will end in Beşkaza Square.
The awards ceremony for dance and best costumes starts at 5.30pm and the opening ceremony at 6pm - all in the public square. Hopefully this will be a great opportunity to take photos of children in national costume.
7pm CELEBRATION OF 81th ANNIVERSARY OF FETHIYESPOR CLUB will be held at Beşkaza square. Turkish local musicians Adem Kazan, Ahmet Eraslan, F-Dance Group will take scene along with musicians from Kazakistan, Kenya, Iran and USA.
I'll definitely be in the square in the evening near the action - I imagine that it will be organised chaos in the Fethiye market area as they organise the parade so see you there if I see you!
-
Hi Nichola. I'm interested, I live in Calis but have no transport. Willing to do dolmus though
-
Hi again Nichola - I was just going to enquire if you were going to be too busy to do any more of your photography events and see that you have suggested something. Couldn't make this or any you ran last year, but would be really interested if we can make any this year. Realistically May 18-26th or June 5th-10th are our best dates.
Many thanks....
-
Susiepink if you email or pm me you email address I will add you to my mailing list and Wendy I will update this topic anyway when we next do something and bear your dates in mind. I already have your email address so I can always email you at the time too.
To be honest things slipped a bit last year and its just too hot to do anything in the height of the summer so that's several months ruled out. Also I am so used to living here now it is sometimes hard to see the potential for a topic of interest. Ideas from others are always welcome and events are usually a good opportunity for an outing.
I'll try to make more of an effort this year though :)
-
Brilliant, Nichola - thanks a lot!
-
John & I would like to join the group too Nichola if it falls on days were free.
-
Hi Nichola. Excellent idea and I would be interested in joining Photography for Fun
-
Linda I will check to see if I have unto date email addresses for you both and Denton if you can PM me yours or send me an email using the icon on my cbf profile I'll add you to the mailing list.
Why not come along this Wednesday about 5ish if you can - we won't be stuck together like glue but I'm hoping there will be lots of opportunities to float around and take some really good shots. I got some great ones of the children's excited faces last year adorned in their national costumes.
I'm going to be there every night from about 7.30pm which is when allegedly the dance shows start before the musicians perform so you're welcome to come and hang out around the stage too.
And it doesn't matter what camera you've got btw - some of the best photos I saw when we went to Kaya were taken on little non DSLR cameras although a long or zoom lens if you've got one is good for events like this. That way you can take really close up shots without getting in people faces.
-
I'll be over in July for 10 days - from the 9th. I'm a very keen DSLR photographer (amateur but not bad) and would love to go out on a photography trip with a group. I don't know the surrounding area, so it always helps to go out with people who know the best places to go - especially for wildlife or outstanding scenery. I love to take macro photographs so would love to go anywhere where there is an abundance of insects or butterflies to capture. I'll be staying at the Oykun hotel from the 9th of July to the 20th.
-
Carol, I've noted your holiday dates in case we are planning anything around that time.
Spring flowers are in an abundance now and some fantastic opportunities for photography, maybe something to bear in mind for future holidays as you are a regular visitor.
I think Tinkerman is our resident expert on wild life. He walks to duck island every morning not far from the court house and Devlet hospital and is always posting photos all manner of wild life from his early morning excursions from ducks (before the otters ate them) to dolphins :)
-
We have a date set for our next outing which is Friday 20th June - 8am meet up at the Friday market by the Gözleme sellers where the covered area starts.
Rodney I have emailed you twice (29th May & 8th June) but had no reply. Maybe you can check in your spam box.
Wendy is this date any good for you, and Mark?
It's a great market for photography full of weather worn locals and often more unusual fruit and veg and other home made wares.
-
Hope you had a good day yesterday, Nichola. Sorry I couldn't make it. Would have loved to have come but sadly, left yesterday and had too much clearing up to do!
Not sure why my reply to you didn't reach you earlier - sorry.
Back home now, but looking forward to coming back out in the autumn and will see you again, then.
PS Mark and I went up to Uzumlu photographing poppies when he was with me - might be getting a bit late now, but some good opportunities....
-
I really must get around to joining your group Nichola the trouble is that this retirement lark seems to keep me busier than when I was working!
Here are a few of the photos I took recently, hope you like them.
Wendy, there are a few shots here that I took in amongst the poppies here in Uzumlu.

We spent a very pleasant hour and a half wandering around the market yesterday. The locals were receptive to their photos being taken. We saw some strange and new fruit and veg, purple chillies and a little fruit called a bebino or something that sounds like that.
Wendy and Hamlet (lovely photos), I spent about two hours in a poppy field I spotted a few weeks ago in the Akarca area and only ended up with a couple of photos I was pleased with!!!
The next group meeting is going to be the "Back Streets of Fethiye".
Just to flag up here I'm going to canvas the group members for availability Monday 14th July, another 8am start as it's still coolish and fresh at that time of the morning so if any one (Carol) is interested let me know.
Just as we were leaving yesterday we did talk about how we can share some of our photos with each other and discussed setting up our own Photography for Fun albums on our own personal Facebook accounts as setting up groups or pages hasn't proved as we have done in the past to be a useful way of people sharing their own work. This requires we make friends on FB with those in the group.
And of course people can share on this forum topic too.
-
Glad yesterday's trip went well - what a shame I coudn't make it, I love the markets. Thanks, too for the photos Hamlet. I know what you mean, though, Nichola - it was a bit blowy when we were taking our photos, so difficult to focus. I haven't uploaded mine yet as only got back to England a few ours ago but some look ok on the camera! If they are, I'll post a couple.
-
I might just be able to join you on July 14th Nichola.
-
Hamlet if you would like to go on the mailing list please drop me an email.
I only ask that people let me know either way if they can come or not. If not details for that trip won't be sent to those not coming but it keeps their place on the list for future trips.
Please check spam boxes for first reply.
-
If your still doing it when I'm over in September I would be interested
-
Hamlet - here are a few I took up at Uzumlu - unfortunately I can't seem to upload all of them due to their file size, but a taster, anyway. Gave up after last one! Not the best, but a good memory!
Yours' are great!

I can confirm 9 of us are going to photograph the Back Streets of Fethiye, 8 am Monday 14th July.
If you want more to join us please message me via the forum with your email address.
-
Oh, wow! Just stumbled onto this post, read the whole thread -and i wish I saw this sooner. May I join the next one, in July? Back Streets of Fethiye sounds good. however, Nichola, is it ok to join with an iPhone and 4 lenses that fit that 'appliance'? I used to carry around a Nikon and a Minolta for years until I came to the conclusion that for what I use them for, what i loose in quality and options (zoom being one) are worth what I gain in mobility and spontaneity, especially now with the lens iP-5 comes with.
So if that is acceptable, please put me down for 8:00am Monday July 14th. I'd like to try and see if it is not too frustrating to walk among 'real camera' schleppers.
As for sharing photos among the group, have you considered flickr.com? it is free, it gives 1 terrabyte of free storage. it is simple and straightforward to upload photos. it has good protection if people do not want their photos to be downloaded they can setup privacy options -for viewing only, etc. (sample https://www.flickr.com/photos/uptownr/sets/ (https://www.flickr.com/photos/uptownr/sets/)). If you haven't solved that issue yet, and it works for the group, I'll be glad to set the group with an account ('Photography4Fun'?) and make you an admin so you can send invites to group members.
p.s. thanks for the thanks, N.
-
Just to let you all know that I have already set up a Facebook page, 'Fethiye Photography for Fun' that anyone can contribute to once they have been approved to post. I was going to ask Nichola to be an admin as well as myself. Feel free to join. 8)
-
You're more than welcome to join us but please message me with an email address for information on where we will meet.
As I've mentioned before it's not necessary to have a DSLR and some of the group have bridge or point and shoot cameras.
I'm not sure what interest there is amongst the group in a group on FB or other forums, most seem content with sharing on their own FB page for now and I personally would rather not be an admin on any more pages or groups.
This is something we can discuss with the regular group members over a çay at the end of our next photo shoot.
-
A great opportunity to practice your photography skills tonight in Fethiye

This little fella makes an appearance on our pool deck every morning and stays until dusk.
You will need to open each picture to fully appreciate the fine detail of its wings.

Hamlet, you mentioned that you might be able to come with out with is on Monday but I haven't received a message for us, no worries if you can't make it.
UPtownr, haven't received a message from you either.
Call me a control freak but anyone that wants to join us needs to message me with their email address in order to receive information about where we will meet and additional information to inspire better photography for that particular subject, in this case photographing the back street of Fethiye.
Thanks
-
I did confirm Nichola, at the Culture Centre, after the Dervishes had finished. 8)
-
And today I learned something new! I thought you as in Hamlet was a woman :o
My apologies and you did email me just never put two and two together.
-
Hamlet, as in Shakespere's Prince of Denmark 8) although I'm not from there!
-
Next photo shoot - Sunday evening 10th August - focusing on photographing the "super full moon" which will be at its closest to Turkey this year.
-
I would love to come and join you Nichola when we are out in Calis, i only have a small camera but maybe you can help me to capture so special shots with it.
Will hopefully catch up sometime to do this.
-
Nichols, I'm coming out in September and keen to learn how to get the best shots with my new Nikon D3300. Do you yet have a date to meet in September?
-
You would both be very welcome to join us on our photo shoots when you are over. We do tend to focus on taking photos rather than providing a learning experience although I am looking into how we can develop that side more in the cooler, quieter and less busy for some winter months as we have people of mixed abilities as part of our group.
Also our group is quite new and people are still getting to know each other. I think that informal side of learning when out and about will develop in time. I wouldn't want to promise anything we couldn't deliver.
We haven't set a date yet but I will keep this topic updated and if your visits coincide then it would be great if you joined us.
I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to understand more about getting the most from their camera signing up to the Digital Photography School both on Facebook for posts in your news feed and/or their web site for weekly newsletter and also Karl Taylor's Photography Blog and sign up for the free videos and emails.
