Hello every one I am coming to chalis at the end of July and want to take my family on safari but my way ie safe and at our pace any one know any companies that I could look up, many thanks in advance
-
Short answer as I'm on my way out
is
Don't - there have been some serious accidents caused mainly by health and safety (lack of) and everyone pratting around and staff showing off. Some fatalities locally.
If you must, Karacay get fair reviews and seem safer than some.
-
Agree with Keith i would not go. If i was I would use Karacay, they have high back seats and seat belts
-
I think that turkey4life is planning to do just that - he wans to hire a jeep so he can do his own private safari - ie "my way ie safe and at our pace ".

I agree with IanK T4L is planning his own.
We have done it many times, there are plenty of places hiring jeeps, some are bone shakers though.
We found that in August they were a bit more difficult to get hold of because the Jeep safari companies use them if they need extra, so you might be wise to book it a good few days before you need it.

Hire a car. It'll save you getting covered in dust and dirt and you'll have the advantage of aircon and shade from the sun.

Apologies, I can see that now - I read it like they were looking for a tour company that do a low key, shenaniganless sensible safari at a leisurely pace. I couldn't think of any :D

Great input from you all
I was considering a car but I have 2x 16 year olds with me and a jeep would be more fun for them and yes the aim is for me to drive away from a group on our own with no shananagans just a good old drive around the sights
-
pegasus rent a car state that their cars are new and fully insured here is there web site .www.rentacarpegasus.com.
-
If your 16 year olds are tall you will need a bit bigger than a Suzuki jeep as they have very little legroom in the back
-
If you do hire a Jeep make sure it's got a canopy otherwise you'll have a vehicle full of very sunburnt people by the end of the day.
-
Good point canopy noted but this seems to be a hard task maybe I should wait till I'm there and have a walk around
-
I did this in 2005 and my advice is check the condition of the jeep very carefully. Check that the canopy works of course but pay particular attention to brakes and steering. Obviously people take them off road so they take a bit of a hammering so need a lot of servicing/repairs. Unfortunately I didn't check and ended up finding that only one of the brakes worked properly. Sorry I can't recall which firm I used :-[

All good posts above. Like all things they all have pros and cons.
Jeeeps are fun , exciting, great views, cheap, give access to tracks through the mountains.
But they are slow so a drag if doing long distances, tiring, heat and sunburn a problem in hot months so trousers, long sleeve shirts, hats which stay on in the wind and glasses all good to have with you. you cant leave valuables in the jeep when away from it, not much storage space, you get very wet if it rains. A canopy wont keep you dry !. potholes and speedbumps are painful if you hit them at speed
Having listed all the negatives we like jeeps as the positives outweigh the negatives for us .....but then we ride motorbikes so we are used to hardship :)
Cars with air con are less hassle , more secure , safer, less tiring for long journeys, but reduce the sense of a holiday "adventure"

Check your hire contract if you are thinking of driving off road - or even on dirt tracks. I've not checked a contract in Turkey but have hired 4x4s in the USA and Canaries and in both cases it stated the insurance was only valid on surfaced roads!

I've got a Suzuki Jimny in the UK and do a bit of green-laning. Thay are a very sturdy beast and can handle a lot more than you'd think but they are small and not very comfortable (I had to commute in it the other day and after 45 miles I felt like I'd come home from a Japanese POW camp). If you are thinking of putting 4 people in it, it will be very cramped. It will also probably have road tyres on it so the chances of popping a tyre on a rough track are greatly increased.
Having hired convertibles and saloons, I'd go for a saloon car with air-con every time.
