I don't often post on CBF. But felt I wanted to write this recommendation for a restaurant on Calis beach front. Restaurant is called VOJO's, it has not been open very long, so this is the first opportunity that we have had to have a meal there. I had heard a lot of good comments about the Fish and chips at vojo's, so, thought I would go along and see for myself, if it was as good as people have said. Yes is was, in fact it was very good, it came with a small portion of tartar sauce and small portion of mushy peas, which my better half said was to small, but was big enough for me, as I'm not that fond of mushy peas, Chips were good, homemade, not frozen, which is to often the case these days. Now onto the fish, it was BIG, in fact it hung off the plate, it was nice and chunky, with a good crispy batter. I could not eat all my fish, it was to much for me ( happy cats), but hubbie managed to clear his plate. We both agreed, that it was the best Fish and chips we have had in Calis. They also sell Segafredo coffee :), which is one of Italy's best coffee brands, not seen it anywhere else in the area.
Service was good, served by a waiter called ODDJOB!, can you belive. I was allowed to taste the wine before making a dicision on it, beer was only 5 tl, which made hubbie happy, but was told that it would be going up to 6tl, maybe.
Will be going back to try other dish's on the menu, got my eye on the curry dish's listed on the menu. Well done VOJO's.

Have to agree, Best fish and chips by far, great value for money. The currys are good also. Wait for the curry night, you get a chicken curry of your choice and rice for 20 lira.
-
Heard several people comment on the value and quality of the fish n chips in resort, but yet to see the party atmosphere I was expecting.
Only Scottish breakfast in Calis claim, is quite original and seems to be good value too
-
I might of missed something but what has made this place the (fun pub) it was boasting to be when it opened ? It seems to be no different to any other place selling good old curries and fish and chips.Shame I thought it was to good to be true. Sorry I nearly forgot 6tl for a beer. ???

Had a nice meal there last night, there was a good atmosphere on the prom as there was a Turkish group playing and lots of craft stalls. There were so many Turkish people on the prom they outnumbered the Brits which was good to see them all out enjoying the night.
Problem for us was they loud music and "line dancing" started up in the Vojo and drowned out the Turish group which were playing opposite the Harem.
Loved the food in Vojo, hated the music and dancing. Don 't really want that while I am eating.
-
We had a meal there a couple of nights ago with our family, food very good. I had tagetella, which was accompanied by a plate of the proverbial rice and chips!!!no garnish whatsoever so didnt look very nice. In fact my dinner was all white. Was envious of my familys meals as their "sides" were little baskets with veg in. Waiters started dancing about 10ish to try and draw a few more in.......... Little tooooo quick off the mark to ask if you wanted another drink but in the main, food beautifully presented, tasty and plenty of it.
-
just goes to show, you cant please all of the people all of the time. one person cant see where the fun is and another person doesnt was music and dancing while their eating. each to their own but everybody seems to agree the food is really good and the staff work very hard. Vojo's deserve to succeed.

We paid our second visit within a week this evening and in our opinion Vojo's are going to coin it this season. I had the chicken madras, hubby had the fish n chips. Saw several chins drop in awe when his plate arrived...reckon they had to harpoon it cos the fish was enormous!!! Half of it came home in a doggie bag!!
Up until 10.00pm the music was unobstrusive and for most folks I would imagine that's acceptable. After that we were treated to a dozen Turkish school girls in their best party frocks, taking the floor and thoroughly enjoying themselves. The management have got it right - give the folks what they want, good food, plenty of choice, and reasonable prices for both food and drink,,,,,it was a good mix of holiday makers, ex pats and Turkish. We'll definitely be going again.

A really nice bar, food very very good, try it you will not be disappointed.
-
we have had breakfast abd lunch here and both meals were really nice, they are offering a ,unch time special of either hamburger and chips with salad, an omelette chips and sald or a chicken wrap and chips with a fizzy drink for 10tl, bargain, friendly staff decent size portions and also lovely clean toilets into the bargain we will defo be using again :)
-
Another lovely brekky and lunch here yesterday, staff really friendly and what a refreshing change to be asked "did you enjoy the food as cant be doing with dragging people in off the street"... also the soft drinks are a good price 3tl for a coke, I am afraid that all we have heard about the Sat this year (that is where we normally spend our days on the beach), this will now be our new place to have lunch on the beach, we even treated ourselves to sunbeds this year which is a first for us :)
-
Had a lovely meal last night (yes, fish and chips !) really good atmosphere , waiters and staff all dancing , and customers too ,if they wanted. Deffo go again and try something else. Lovely couple who run it as well . :)

Okyanus for BEST fish and chips. NO to mushy peas, best with salad and chips. Mmmmmmm.
-
I saw a VOJO fish and chips photographed by our sunnyd on Facebook. The fish was HUGE :D
Glad to read so many positive comments, well done to Volkan and Jo for establishing their place so well and so quickly.
-
We have also been there a few times - I can recommend the lamb chops and the Testi kebab (served alight !) if you want something a bit more Turkish than fish n chips.

I can recommend the lamb shank which fell off the bone, it was lovely. ;D

I have just one comment on vujos, we had coffee or tea and cake, advertised at 10 Turkish lira on board outside, when we received the bill it was 1.5 lira more because I had English tea! Sorry but we did not bother with them again. :(
-
..or the name !
-
Did you make them aware Echogirl, about the extra 1.5tl you were charged just that they did seem like the type of people who would sort the mistake out... we had something similar at a different restaurant where our bill had been added up wrong by 10tl and they could not have been more sorry and soon rectified it, also they had left a beer off which I am sure we could have "got away" with but somehow it did not seem right to do this so we told them about the missed off beer....
-
Only been twice ,and I'm sure they wouldn't do this on purpose for the sake of 1.5 lira, not worth worrying about, (did you ask why ? ) going again tonight anyway ! good place . :)
-
Will give it a go next week along with the meeting place..... Don't you just love this site :0)
-
Yip :)
-
If you like staff promoted line dancing it really is the place to be ;)
The staff can even be seen rehearsing their 'moves' in the afternoon 'quiet' periods :( :( :( :(

What sort of fish is it? Not that I am bothered as looks delish but OH asking as he is a professional 'chippy job' man ;D
-
I would be interested to know too. I love fish, but the battered fish we get with our chips in Scotland is always haddock I know in England it's cod, but what do they use in Turkey???
-
I've absolutely no idea, but its a white fish, fresh and sweet tasting, no bones and the crispiest batter. In fact Volkan the owner came over and apologised they had run out of the large fish, hence the extra smaller piece
-
Mezgit is the fish used here. Which translated means Whiting.
-
Whiting is nice :)
-
Thanks Eric and Rimms.

Thanks Eric, I'm going to try and buy some in the fish market, it was delicious.
-
George you can also get it,from the fish seller behind main ptt in fethiye, two places in towards the culture centre, the place with big chest freezers, always cheaper than market...but frozen, simon
-
Cheers mate, will definitely pick some up this week

Whiting a a very mild tasting fish and when I lived in Liverpool it was know as invalids fish because it was prescribed to people who where recovering from illnesses. I was speaking to my Fishmonger about Whiting and he says he rarely gets it as it's not popular in the area. I was telling him it was my Mother's favourite fish, because she always said it was not "strong".
When we were in Calis a couple of weeks ago a guy came around the Villas with bags of fish, which I think was Whiting it looked very fresh. Our neighbours bought some from him and he followed them into the house. I was thinking he was a long time and eventually he came out and the neighbours told us, he had filleted it for them.

Sampled Vojo last night and "Mr Chippy job" said it was excellent. We were informed by I think the owner, that the fish is imported North Sea Cod.
At first he suggested not to have the fish as it was not as large as normal and didn't want us to be disappointed. We let him know that a smaller portion was fine as 'hanging off the plate' would be too much anyway ;D
Great food - will visit again.
-
Ate there on my own one night when Brenda was late back from a boat trip.
The food (liver and onion) was very good and the service excellent. Volkan (VO) came over for a chat and explained how he came to be in Calis.
Returned the following evening with herself and both the food and service were again excellent.
Probably the second best food we had when we were over.
Was busy on both nights. I don't know if they take bookings but the contact details are.

They seem to have got a reputation for serving only "British" meals but that isn't the case and on the second night were overing a traditional Turkish dish cooked in a clay pot.
Don't know about the "fun" part of the enterprise but it is well worth a visit for a meal and Vo and Jo are trying really hard to make a go of things.
