Has anyone had much experience of Windows eight please? I have a chance to purchase a laptop at a good price with this programme on it, I was told that it has not really taken off too well. but is fine for internet use, as I am not particlarly techy any advice/opinions on this greatly received :)

I'm using Windows 8 and I'm not a big fan of it. Maybe that's because I got too used to the previous versions.
Some actions can be complicated but most of the time there is an easier way of doing it by using a short cut.
For example, switching off the computer. I found it complicated but uncle Google informed me that you can use Alt F4 and that's what I have been doing since.

I've got windows 8 too on my new laptop. It just takes a while to get your head round it. Took me a couple if weeks but fine now. The "start" feature seemingly will be reinstated after much outcry

ok thanks for replies I will go along and take a look at it on Monday if the price is right then hey ho :)

If you are used to older versions of Windows then I can thoroughly recommend http://www.classicshell.net/ to run W8 in compatibility mode, it gives you a mirror of W7 with the added speed that W8 offers.

Thank you Mark for that if I buy the laptop tomorrow do I just download this on to it?sorry to appear "dim" but I really just use computers for internet :)

Been running Window 8 on a new laptop for the past couple of months without any problem at all. I find it very easy to use.

I bought a new all-in-one PC from Costco about 6 weeks ago and it came with Windows 8.
Hated Windows 8 so much that I took advantage of Costco's wonderful 'no quibble returns policy' and now have an all-in-one Mac. And I'm very happy.

If you go to the printer manufacturers website you will probably find an update to download for windows 8. What's the printer and model?

I have that printer (or one very close to it, the reference number is that or very similar) - it can be a right sod Karen. Great printer when you get it set up.
The most important thing to get your head round is that it is a wireless printer but you really need to install it by connecting to it via USB cable (USB connector is on the left side).
I would say two most important things.
1. If it is installed on another laptop - a Windows 7 one and is still installed, you can try to connect to it via your Windows 8 control panel ( control panel - devices and printers - add a printer - it then searches for all connected and wireless printers.
Hopefully yours will show up as it is already network installed. If it does show up, just proceed with the installation process offered. This allows you to print from the new Win8 laptop without installing it like it was a new printer you bought today.
2. If the above doesn't work, try a full install using the USB cable and the CD if you have it. I have downloaded the drivers many times and it's always a troublesome install, whereas the CD seems to just work.
But back to what I said earlier - mine has several times nearly gone through the window. Try the suggestions, and breathe...
Hopefully that might help.

Thanks very much Keith, I have the cd and that is where it is showing there is a compatibility problem... The printer is networked to an old computer so I am going to try what you have suggested, I don't know where the USB cable is I will have a look and try both methods you have suggested or only one if the first method works ;)cheers...

Just getting to grips with it on my all singing and dancing new HP Desktop. I must admit windows 8.1 is a bit of a beast. Finding my way around will take a few weeks I think. I'm going for some tuition from a PC expert friend next week who advises me there are plenty of short cuts you can use that are not immediately apparent.
8.1 also has a switch off button now - scroll the mouse the the bottom left and a grid comes out. Click settings and the off button is there. Not sure if they had that on 8?
-
I'm still using Classic Shell, so much easier!
-
I might try that if things get too fraught!
-
I have had my windows 8 since Christmas, getting to grips with it very slowly, the only thing that has me angry is I had Office pro on my old computer, and I am not able to transfer it to this computer as I have lost the licence! and I will not buy it again this will be the 3rd time otherwise.

Loz - download Libre Office. It's virtually a mirror of MS Office. Not sure what you use it for but it's OK for most of the things I require. Word processing etc. Free as well :)
