Just had 2 weeks in calis beach , was recommended to go to the fethiye boatyard if you are interested in the building & restoration of the boats that you sail on the various tours round the Islands. Amazing, you can wander around the various yards at will, no health & safety here & see all the skills involved in boat building. There is a workers cafe there which sells large Effes for 4.5 lira, not the tourist trail but real Turkish life. Transport is by Dolmus bus on main road in Fethiye the buses with an orange emblem on the front , cost 2 lira. Real life outside the tourist trail.

Forgot to mention the best retaurant in Calis was Georges, not the cheapest, but the food & ambience we enjoyed,
-
I'm so pleased that you remembered to mention the price of an Efes. ;)
-
Is it cheaper when spelt with two ff's ?
Maybe they are selling contraband 'copy' beer ? ;)

What is it with some of you guys. A fella comes on and tries to give his thoughts on a part of his holiday that he has enjoyed and all you can do is take the p+ss. Get a life!!!

You really need to chillax Snapper. Tell you what, pop down to the boatyard at Karagozler for a cheap Efes. :)

Souhds like worth a visit -- there are so many places like that -- take a drive past Oludeniz and keep going up past Lykia World and there is a wonderful coast road with staggering views. As you drive you see a sign that advertises "Ottoam Pancakes" (Gozleme) and has a couple opf parking places outside. It is now quiote posh compared to when we discovered it but if you can get a table near the "edge" (It is on stilts over a steep valley down to the sea) it is a wonderful quiet relaxing experice with a big Gozleme and a beer or Ayran. Only thing is every year now we expect sad news as when we first discovered it there just a little old man who would go and get his daughter to cook them, now she is full time as it is busy and he is often "sleeping" in the afternoon, we know one day he will have died and it will never seem the same again. Typical Turkish people, so friendly and with a sense of humour, he tried to barter a very old pair of German Field Glasses, (think they must be WW1 vintage!) for my video Camera although he knew it was never going to happen!

Is it taking the p**s or having a bit of banter, I think it is meant as banter as every season someone mentions the price of Efes ;) That pancake place in OLu sounds lovely, my kind of aTurkey, we are hoping to hire a car this summer so will defo be having a go at finding this place :)

We also could recommend George's family owned business passed from Father to son. Thirty years of experience they really know how to run a restaurant.. My favourite meal is the Chicken Topkapi. ;)
We also always take a look at the boatyards in Fethiye fasinating place. As mentioned above they have never heard od health and safety out there. :o

The boat yards are really interesting - take a look at my video cycling there from Fethiye harbour. You will see how the traffic was driving under the boom of a wotking crane. All completely safe of course.

The Karagozler boatyards are fascinating - shame that they are talking about relocating and redeveloping :(
The whole peninsular beyond is a great walk with various beaches dotted around it (and a dolmus on the 'near' side if you get tired (Kuleli Koyu back to Fethiye)
