Title: Saklikent
Post by: davybill on June 11, 2013, 18:45:07 PM
We have just had some friends who visited Saclikent last week;
they walked along the Gorge, and some turkish lads helped them on the final stretch,
when they finished , they were giving them a tip,but the lads wanted 150lira they ended up giving them 100lira,
but they had to argue,so just a warning to  >:( if you take friends.

I would have firmly told them to jog on.

Our driver on the Jeep safari warned us about this before we stopped at Gorge. Apparently the guys claim they can lead you to hidden tombs further up the Gorge. Our driver made it more than clear that there is "nowt, nada, zilch, further up the gorge" and if approached to tell them no, firmly

It's usually best to say no thank you to any help unless absolutely necessary. Same as what Toky has said with the jeep safari, they advise to say no to help as even children have become demanding for money as well. Instead the jeep drivers help with crossing over.

A shame this has happened to your friends davybill, hope this hasn't ruined their holiday.

There is an article in the current edition of The Land of Lights. In this article there are listed several names of members of FETAB who have recently visited Saklikent to inspect the results of the recent make-over.

Slightly off topic . How easy is It to get to Saklikent gorge by Dolmus?

Very easy to get to Saklikent Gorge from Fethiye on the Dolmus. There is a 'standard' dolmus which goes from the road adjacent to the station, but this stops in many villages, can be very crowded and takes quite a while.

Four of us went last week and opted to go on the 'direct' bus, seemingly managed/organised from the cafe on the corner of the road adjacent to the station. For 20TL each we had guaranteed seats on a large, air conditioned dolmus.  Departing at 10.30am, we stopped twice on the way to Saklikent, once at Yaka Park and again at Tlos (both WELL worth seeing).

Arrived in Saklikent around 12.30 and had 4.5 hours there. The driver waited, checked us all back on to the dolmus, and then took us directly back in under an hour. He even took us on to Calis at no extra charge. Great value for money...the same deal as an 'organised' trip to Saklikent for a fraction of the cost.

Yeah, we met these lads a few years back. Gave them a tip then kept asking for more and got all sulky!
Someone has trained them well. Very sad and greedy!

I was there the last 3 years and when you ask the price before the walk, there is no problem.
