Title: Efes shut down...
Post by: nichola on June 13, 2013, 12:43:22 PM
A message from Efes on their web site

“You cannot see the website you are trying to open. Our website was blocked according to Law No. 6487 published in the Official Gazette on June 11, 2013, which says ‘commercials for alcoholic beverages are forbidden for any reasons.’ But, even if we do not see, we recognize, we know,” the message read.

Colwyn in a rather hamfisted way I was trying to make an ironic point, I did know the answer really...

Whoops, I misread it, I thought it said. I wish I could say that 'This is a surprise'. Where did that come from? Punctuation makes all the difference.

Wow, does this mean all restaurants, bars, etc, that have parasols, sunshades advertising effes, tuborg or whatever have to get rid of them? :o

Efes should rebrand their lager as 'Erdogan' ....... all those posters and parasols would be exempt from any restrictive laws.

How do they class a website (which I presume you have to search to find) as advertising? Surley it's up to the viewer to decide if they want to go on the site or not. Therefore it's not advertising in the same way as a TV or radio advert. Or a billboard/poster.

I understand other drinks websites merely ask of you are over 18 before letting you enter. Seems logical.

I guess all the new unbrellas will have yoghurt logos on them now? Or maybe ice cream?

Now then - will that make me buy more Efes or more magnums?

Flipping eck, thats going to make identifying the right restaurants in Istanbul a bit difficult !!   (Baz made the very unfortunately mistake of chosing a restaurant by the appearance only last year, yes fab food, but NO efes..........never eaten a meal so fast in our lives !!! ).
