Title: Ex-pats
Post by: Ray1951 on June 15, 2013, 19:44:50 PM
Apart from the people who have unfortunately passed away in recent times (God Bless them), what is the percentage of ex-pats
living in and around Calis now, compared to the past 7 years? I know of quite a number of people who have left to return to the UK
and some who have moved to Spain or Cyprus.  I just wondered what the situation is.  Just curious.

Ah, but you can still get a drink at any time.  ;)

Ah I know why you lot, don't know of anyone who has moved away - you only know keep a close circle of friends, whom you drink and gossip with. The others, who didn't engage in this manner, you wouldn't know.  The Forum is a little clique and unless people are in your circle, all they can expect is abuse or rude remarks!

Erm...  Are you accusing people of having friends?

Completely lost me with that post  :)

Just a thought but who do you expect would know the answer to your original question?

THe last time I heard of a fıgure for expats or ex anything was around 7000 living in Fethiye area. That was about 2 years ago.

Post by: kayakebab on June 17, 2013, 09:47:16 AM
That's about what I thought too, I think the whole population of Fethiye is around 84000
So percentage wise it's just over 8%

Don't get upset by them Ray, they're only playing. The don't mean any harm.
I know it can be annoying when all you want is a straight answer, but some people on some forums are just downright spiteful, we don't get that on CBF, they're basically all nice people x

Ironically the only example of that (rude remarks) in this topic was from you.

Your actually quite right Ray1951-The Forum can be very cliquey and insular and abusive and politically incorrect. Equally it can be helpful, informative and very funny.
Its typical of any group , society or family you may be involved with.
you do have the option to not take part.
Personally I like the mix. It can be better than Coronation street at times

People call every forum on every subject in the World 'cliquey'. I see it more simply than that. Some of us know each other and some don't.

Just like life itself.

kayakebab is right - I wish members of CBF would try out some other forums before posting how clicky or unhelpful this one is.

Let me help you with that. Here is someone asking for more info about Calis Beach on a UK local forum. Note the reply and don't forget to check the link that the replier offered that "should help".

http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=9862320

Then come and tell us all how friendly you now realise CBF actually is. And quit slagging it off.

Lol...good job I did ,t post on that one with all my bad grammar n spelling mistakes.
Been a member for 3 years now, find the  more you post, people feel able to ha ve a bit of banter with you,,suppose its the way you take it and how sensitive you are. Never seen anyone being malicous..sarcy,funny yes, along with informative, supportive, sympathetic, and helpful. There,s not many forums that would or could raise money for good causes like this one  does.either.

Haha! Scunner that's amazing.

I suspect Ray1951 probably would realise all of this if she looked back at those first few posts.  When I read her response I honestly didn't know what she meant.  It was so weird.  Now I realise that she was asking a serious question and wanted a serious response and lost patience.  Silly thing is she got her serious responses too but they were amidst the usual banter and funny comments.  You can't afford to be sensitive about that sort of thing I reckon.  It's all meant in jest and it's harmless.  I'd say we were all lucky to be a part of this forum, warts and all.   ;D

I was told by a Turk born and brought up in Fethiye that the population of the whole area is 250,000

The Fethiye area is huge, I posted the most recent figure for the area that Ray was probably meaning.

Found this nice table which shows the figures for the whole area, a little out of date but gives the general idea!

Notice calis is not even mentioned but smaller areas are. :'(
Title: Re: Ex-pats

Well I suppose it's because in reality Calis as an area doesn't exist. In the figures it will be just lumped in with Fethiye.

Independence for Calis!

It will all be Fethiye soon I guess?

Oh Good God - 'The Sheffield Forum' ........... as a Sheffielder myself, I got burned very badly on there.

The forum is populated by a nasty little set of trolls that lurk under bridges waiting to pounce on the grammatically incorrect and innocent question posers as they pass by.

I think I posted about 10 things on that forum and then never went on it again.

So far, as a complete newbie on here, I've found it to be very helpful and very interesting. I've whiled away a few hours reading really old threads. For someone like me, who is hoping to move into the Fethiye area, you really couldn't wish for a better source of information. People have been very generous with their copious advice and warnings, all presented from experience rather than hearsay.

I hope one day to also be a 'Friendly Fethiye Sage' (FFS   ;)) on here, with a yarn and a real life tale to tell on every subject relating to the area. Cheers guys!

Sounds like a good place to film the next Lord of the forums as middle earth is already there and nasty trolls are plentiful    :)
