Title: Ants
Post by: easyfood on June 25, 2013, 13:37:08 PM
Hi. Does anyone know how to get rid of ants in a bathroom. And yes it is very clean. Every web site I've looked at suggests borac acid. Can't get that here. Have tried vinegar and lemon juice and the little blighters keep coming back. There are no gaps around the sink or anywhere else. Cheers.

It's best to use the little round boxes that you get in the shops in the U.K. you just put them down and the ants go into them and carry the contents back to the nests to be eaten, of course, it's poison and they don't come back.
We always take a stock of these ant traps with us as they don't sell them in Turkey.  Once, when we forgot to take them we asked in the D.I.Y. Shop in Fethiye and the guy sold us some powder.  I asked  "Does it kill them? and he told me "No, it just sends them away".   So, I assumed they go next door. :D  ;)

I purchased pink ant powder from Ciftlik DIY shop in a pepper type shaker and couldn't believe how quickly the hundreds of ants disappeared (or moved next door). It had a skull and crossbones on the sticker so i wouldn't recommend indoor use!

We looked everywhere for the trays that Jacqui recommends and eventually found them in Poundstretcher, if that helps anyone.

Used to get friends to bring out Nippon drops, now that is impressive stuff.

Can definitely vouch for the round black ant traps - used to have ants every May in my kitchen, but left the traps down and not had any this year. But I'm in the UK, not much use to you in Turkey. I'd get anyone you know coming to Calis to buy you some and bring them over!

I'm coming in September so we can always do some ant trap dealing in some shady part of Calis... ;D

Yes they do Steve, although we noticed it gets harder and harder to find. I think Ebay might be the best option now.

The Range is a leisure, home & garden store.  You can get loads of bargains. Don't know if it's nationwide but there's quite a few local to us in Yorkshire.

Yes, we sometimes visit the Range store in Halifax!  So much stuff you never knew you needed!   ;D

Am also going to try Poundstretcher though for these ant traps, hate them anywhere in the house!

if you contact me and know where Kaan Otel, Adin Pede or PJs bar is, I can give you some powder that I use and it certainly does work

You can now buy the round ant stations which Jaqui referred to in Migros in Fethiye, bought some today as we have always brought them from England and they are very effective. They were about 7tl

I like the ant traps but getting the cheese onto those tiny prongs is a nightmare

We found a whole pile of ants tramping up and down a tree in the garden on close inspection they had stripped the bark of a large proportion of the tree.  I put one of those round ant traps at the base of the tree and one in the tree.  I have never seen ants doing this before.
