You need a tax number to open a bank account. You need the account numbers for the debit. Take in two bills and it should be sorted.

You will have to go to the tax office, which is up the road opposite Shaka and its the big building on the left.  I think you need to go to the 1st floor.  Check with your bank too as sometimes they can sort it out for you.  A couple of utility bills should suffice as proof of where your apartment is plus don't forget your passport too.

You actually need a photocopy of your passport. There used to be a little kiosk outside the tax office where you could get a copy.

It will be a diiferent one than your husband but may be (will be) connected in the system. I don't think it will make any difference if you open up an account in only your name.

Amanda, It's a white card and says "Vergi Kimlik Numarasi Karti" on the front.  It has a ten digit number and shows your Surname and First Name.

I've scanned the card successfully but unfortunately am having problems adding image to post.  The reverse of card says "Hatirlatma"  and shows the date of issue in a box.

You would have had to provide your tax number when opening your bank account.  They should be able to give it to you.

A friend of ours knew he had a tax number, because he had a bank account, but didn't have a card or know what it was, we just took his passport to the tax office and told them he had a number and could they give him a new card, which they did no problem, just looked him up on the system.
