Title: Car hire for few days
Post by: sunlover on June 28, 2013, 08:43:03 AM
Can anyone recommend car hire, it will need to be brought to where we are staying as this will be the first time we will have a go at driving in the area, we have had one recommended but am up for any more people or companies that you all use, we will just be looking at a few days hire to start with to see how we get on with the driving in the area.

I am assuming as this is the Calis Beach section of this Forum, you want to hire in Calis Beach?
We always use Fethiye Lovers, have used them for about 6 years now and can thoroughly recommend them.

Ask for Arthur, he speaks perfect English and Fethiye Lovers Office is in Calis. They bring the car to the door if you require this service.  ;D

The area we are staying at is near Gunlukbashi, and certainly don't want to have to go near Fethiye if rst time driving there  :)

In April we got a good deal from Mutlu at Pegasus. Car was a VW (can't remember model but like a doblo/cargo jobbie) and automatic which means one thing less to remember when sitting on the wrong side of the car. Price was good, car was good, we didn't have to pick it up from anywhere, they came to the hotel with it the morning after we arrived and came for it just before we left for the airport.

More than happy.

Driving in Turkey can be VERY, VERY confusing & dangerous for anyone doing it for the 1st time. The "laws" ? as practised on the road are totally different from the U.K., one example being that traffic actually ON a roundabout MUST give way to traffic entering the roundabout, also, if an oncoming driver flashes his/her headlights at you, he is NOT giving you permission to cross in front of him/her, exactly the opposite, he/she is going to keep coming on !! Please make certain that the vehicle is 100% roadworthy, & remember, if ever unfortunate enough to be involved in any collision, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MOVE THE CAR, even if obstructing entire road system, it is an offence at law to do so. Happy motoring !!

The headlight flashing one is something all car hirers should be told before they are allowed the keys - it is critical to your life that you know this. Another one (not trying to put anyone off) is to bear in mind that if your are turning left off a main road, do not be surprised if you are overtaken on your left side (i.e. on the side you are turning to, not nearside).

The good side about driving in Turkey is that you can drive along at 5 mph if you feel happy with that. People won't get road rageous, they will simply go round you.
