Went to pay for my veggies I realised I only had 50TL note, the stall holder said old money and obviously wouldn't accept it. Felt a bit stupid to say the least........ A very kind couple English couple gave me 5TL. They said they come on CBF. SO MEGA THANKS, I owe you an Efes, let me know who you are ;)
Some friends came over recently with some old money. I was going to take it to the Ziraat, it was in my purse and had I forgotten about it. Dur :-[

We do have some lovely people here, so nice to start my day reading something like this.

Not that old trick again Barbara ;-)

Saves her a fortune every week. ;)

Oh, not THAT old chestnut, AGAIN !! I must remember this "dodge" !! Seriously, (just for a second), well done to the people who "stepped up to the plate", hang on to that old money, Busybee, it'll always come in handy. ;) ;D

Very nice gesture indeed from the couple.

What a lovely read, sometimes you'd think it'd be easier to ignore the situation but it always really helps to 'step up' as GordonA puts it. Makes the other person's day and you feel better for helping. Good karma all round!
Just to check, what is 'old money'? I have some Lira and Kurus from my last visit to Calis which was in 2011, hoping to have some money to start off the first couple of drinks on arrival. Has it changed since?

I cannot wait to say that I'm buying my veggies from Fethiye's Tuesday market! The produce there looks so lush and fresh.
I will check my money carefully though beforehand. ;)

So who are you please.

Old money will have "yeni lira" printed on it. The new stuff just "lira"

Ok Barbara it was me and Carole in disguise, just leave a case of beer on the patio :-)

It is quite simple: "old money" will have "new money" printed on it. Turkey,eh?
