Title: Comin to Calis
Post by: cmurr on July 22, 2013, 14:23:06 PM
We are comin to Calis in two weeks for our first time and had a few questions, noramlly we go to Bitez but wanted a change this year.

Is there a facility to change cash in Calis?  What is the current rate

Is Calis a quiet resort, we have two children aged 16 and 8 so are wondering if it may be too quiet at night and maybe we should head to Fethiye?

Can you do a day boat trip from Calis?  Any other good trips to do

Finally the most important - how much is a large Efes?

We are looking forward to the trip, staying at the Poppy and have read they are basic but clean, located not far from centre  and the owners are friendly.

thank you

Lots of places to exchange cash and no shortage of things to do of a night with the kids. most bars have wifi, free pool tables, wii and computers. Loads of boat trips with pick up from hotels and loads of sellers to book trips to lots of different places. You wont get bored  dont worry. Oh efes bottled 6/7 lira in most places and draught cheaper still ;D

You can do boat trips with the water taxis, but for bigger boats, head to Fethiye. The 12 islands day out is a great chill day & is the most popular of the trips

Just to add there is a water park in Calis, not huge but with enough slides etc. for the kids, and most youngsters are very happy jumping in and out of the pool or sea all day. In the evening the road leading to the beach is shut off and the local kids are on their bikes and playing with no fear of getting run over.  Have a good holiday and one thing I can practically guarantee YOU WILL BE BACK.

Calis is reasonably quiet but it is also an excellent base to get to other areas should you want to. I think both your children will be happy with the holiday and to echo echogirl - you'll be back.......

Head to Fethiye at night. Nothing in Calis for kids.

Calis is actually just an extension of Fethiye so only around 5 miles away. There is a water taxi your kids will love only costs 5 lira and takes about 35 minutes. It's a great trip.  Alternatively, catch the dolmus takes about 10 minutes.  Calis gives you the best of both worlds, a beach resort with a working town just 10 minutes away.
Book a 12 island boat trip from lots of agencies in Calis, you can also hire bicycles.  There is a bike club here on CBF where you can pay 10 Llira for a day out with the club.
Take the kids to the Aqua Park for the day, they have happy hours for icre cream etc., and also have children's entertainers.
Tell your children that the latest James Bond Movie "Skyfall" was filmed on Calis Beach.  Daniel Craig stayed in the Yacht Boutique Hotel in Fethiye and you can go through for a lunch or dinner.
There is also a water sports centre at Koca Calis Beach where you can try kite surfing, wind surfing etc. or just watch.
if you are lucky you may see the dolphins in the bay and perhaps the turtles.
There are a couple of places in Calis for Turkish Baths etc.,  All in all Calis is a great place to stay and a wonderful place to take trips from.  I think you kids would like Saklikent Gorge for a day out with a meal on the way at Yaka Park where they can see the trout in the pools and eat really fresh bbq.  Also if they you stay in the freezing cold mountain water for 15 minutes you can get a free meal.
There is an official change office in Calis, but if you go to Zumrut Jewellery Shop, he always gives a better rate that the Change Office.  Also if you go into Fethiye you can use any of the Banks to Change money and they will often give a higher rate, take your passport with you.

If you liked Bella Mama try Casa De Mama.  Same food as a lot of the staff including Chefs from Bella left to go there.  It's also cheaper and friendlier.
To anyone else new to the Forum if you are going to go on a Jeep Safari, take out Extreme Sports Insurance before you leave the U.K.  as your normal travel insurance does not cover Jeep Safari trips.

There are lots of places in Calis to book trips.  Sometimes booking in advance can be inconvenient because you are stuck to doing the trip on the day you have  book, when you may feel like doing something else or nothing else that day.

Google carole and tayfun, they have their own website. We saved money and enjoyed both trips. The sunset cruise especially! They email you confirmation, with a contact number and if you want to change your day, its no problem at all. The 12 island ctruise is not a rowdy one with load music, its really chilled, our teenagers loved it. :)
