Many will know that the 3Cs are one of the charities closely involved with the project to move children from the orphanage into smaller, family units known as Love Homes.
Last week, two of our visitors ( who I won't name for obvious reasons) were young girls who had spent most of their lives in the care system and were still under the care of legal guardians. Their story is a sad tale where they have become victims of circumstances that were inflicted on them as very young children.
One day we were sat around the pool and the girls were keen to ask about the lives of children in care here in Turkey, I told them about the whole range of projects supported by the 3Cs including the love homes. They didn't comment very much and later carried on with their swim and I gave no further thought to our conversation until the night they were leaving.
Just before their airport transfer arrived, the youngest girl who is 12 came over to me and handed me a little plastic bag which contained money, I was puzzled until she said "we have saved this from our holiday spends to help those children going into the love homes"
It was such a simple but touching moment, I hardly knew what to say but swallowed heavily and thanked both of them for such a nice gesture. I couldn't even bring myself to count the small collection of notes and coins after they had left and handed over the bag to Chrissie the following day. I've just heard that they have donated more than 60 lira which will be used exactly how they specified.

Having experienced the care system and process and the background to some of the children going through it I must admit that the story has just brought a tear to my eyes.

Just by way of a follow on. The 3Cs have arranged a boat trip on the 24th for the love home children. I must say a big thanks to Chris's Sister, Niece and friends who have left 100 lira to buy them ice creams etc on the day. Chris will drop the money down to the shop next week. Well done girls.

Is there a list anywhere of items required for the love homes - like we did for the school fundraiser?
At the time, I thought knowing just what you were buying made it so real and I would be happy to participate as I'm sure many others would too.
Just a thought and apologies if it's already been done.

I'm with Bluwise on this one.
When I was a child, my Mum used to help out her friend every weekend at the local Children's Home and take me along. I have to be honest, even as a 9yr old, I used to find the visits a little traumatic and I persuaded my Mum to stop taking me. I could not even begin to fathom how it would feel not to have a home of my own with loving parents. I remember crying non stop one sunny Saturday because I wasn't allowed to take Theresa home with us and have her as my sister. Wonder where she is now?
I would love to help.
