We were wondering if anyone on here has made the trip to Calis from the UK on a motorbike? We're thinking of taking a month out of work for a once in a lifetime road trip, perhaps travelling through eastern Europe and visiting friends in Prague en-route. Any advice or experiences appreciated, thanks Tim and Jan

Having done the journey several times by car now. A four and a half day trip. I am not sure I would do it by bike! The roads through Hungary Romania Bulgaria are not brilliant think you would need a big bike and a good pillion passenger to make this trip. Our days are normally long ones 10 hrs plus in the car but what ever you decide - good luck

If you think potholes in the UK are bad, you ain't seen nothing yet !

Rick and Celia who do the line dancing classes have done this trip from The UK to Turkey more than once.. They hold classes in Uzumlu and Calis. Perhaps if anyone reading this knows them they would ask them to get in touch with you?

Great, thanks I'll try him. We're not thinking of doing this until around next April, but I think we need to start planning now.

Hungary Romania Bulgaria is not a route I would choose. We have done the route to the UK, plus other parts of Europe, many times now. Overland I would choose Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Belgium, France then the UK. By ferry it would be Greece (Igouminister) to Venice then Austria, Germany etc. Obviously from the UK its in reverse.
Far better roads and no border crossing problems.
