Hi J,

I have only ever been to Denielz or Mellisas.

I think thats how you spell their names.

Denielz is located next to the jewllers on the corner of the roundabout just as you get into Calis town centre

Mellisas is located next to the yellow taxi rank and the ATMS.

I prefer Denielz and he is much more socialable than Mellisas

He speaks poor English but can make a conversation and finishes the cut and shave of with a nice head massage only 10 Lira!

I would highly recommend this place to anyone i can't stress enough how good and prompt he is!

Dave

Best one was next door to the Zayra2 restaurant which is nr the Sunday market, not exactly central Calis but close enough to be worth the walk. The one next to Pastries & Pies is ok but had better shaves elsewhere.

I always go to the one on Gunlukbasi High Street, the last one on the right before the Uzumlu road turn on the left (near the Wella hair place). The one with all the different bank notes from around the World. When I first went there I was shaved by a boy who appeared to be around seven years old.

That was a long time ago though, he looks ten now.

One of the mentioned barbers in the centre of Calis has on several occasions done himself no favours by charging "tourist prices" when he thought he could get away with it. Not a couple of lira more either - seriously taking the mick.

If you go to a barber, confirm the price first, it isn't rocket science  :)

I've been to several barbers in Çalis and Fethiye as I never take my shavingstuff with me. My head's still connected to the rest of the body and there al no scars of any kind. If it looks okay it usually is. I Always pay somewhere between 8-10 lira and it's a real treat.

Scunner, I am going to stick my neck on the line and defend my love for Denielz because his prices are on his window! 15TL for a haircut, shave and massage OR 10TL for shave and massage

And because that mellisas was abit dodgey when i went in I'm going to say it was probably there as when i had my shave he started offering all sorts of different things and although i declined I'm assuming they came at a price!

Safe to say i never went back there!

Honestly, you can't miss Denielz if your walking in from the roundabout on your left is the yellow taxis and straight facing it is Denielz.

Another way of putting it is hes next door but 1 from the Restaurant on the edge of the roundabout.

Hope this helps!

Wasn't sure of the spelling and I'm rubbish at remembering the places around it so I had to guess so glad you managed to find it! On a friday i notice that alot of the turkish men go in evening time so if you can get there in the afternoon otherwise you may miss the england game queuing up!!

Enjoy!

I paid 25tl for haircut shave and a massage at the one just on the left as you turn into the main strip from the roundabout! Is that too much?

For a shave and a massage its 10Lira so an extra 15lira for an haircut does seem pretty steep am surprised at Denil for doing that but then like i said further up I'm sure his prices are on the windows as you walk in!!

and when i looked at the prices im sure it said haircut, shave, massage 15tl but now im thinking it could of said 25lira! :/

I recently paid 15ytl for two shaves a haircut a massage and my ears burnt! I say two shaves because I paid for my son's as well. I gave a 5 ytl tip as it was so good  :)

Mind you I don't have much hair and a number 1 takes about 5 mins in York. This guy took at least 10 just to do the hair - maybe he was looking for it?

Not Calis though sorry - Ciftlik - above the DIY shop opposite Meilissa's

I had a similar experience with Denil today. 15TL clearly posted outside but returned 30 in change from a 50 note I gave him in payment. I feel more than a little foolish as I had decided to give a 5 lira tip and somehow computed that the change was correct and then handed over a FURTHER 5 lira tip. I think my error stemmed from my indecision over the tip - the service was fairly ordinary by Turkish standards with a cursory shoulder massage provided by a massage machine with no arm treatment or knuckle cracking. reasonable haircut and double shave however along with the necessary burning of the ear hairs. To be absolutely fair, he did ask if I wanted my hair to be washed which surprised me a little as this has always been done before; I did say yes so perhaps this is what he felt able to charge the additional unconfirmed 5 lira charge for.

Perhaps it's time to find another champion barber who does not operate such an elastic pricing model????????

My hubby is very fussy about his hair cuts and in 30th years I have never known him go to a barbers, always used the same hairdresser who is also mine . she was only 19 then she charges him £18. She  and her team run a top class salon.
3 weeks ago he went to barbers belind Zayra 2 next to bread shop.
He was  desperate as it hadnt been done for 6 weeks and he couldnt wait till he got home.

It was the best I have ever seen it look. a bit shorter than usual but a  really classy cut. 10Tl. he wont hesitate to go again.(By the way he has a good head of hair).

As I have said before Adnan, next to Zayra 2 spent his final years at a "teacher" at a Barber's college - he is an excellent barber - a nice man and as others have said very reasonably priced.

He moved here to retire and this is just a little bit of extra income and a way of not getting under his wife's feet :-)

I appear to have got the barber's name wrong earlier. The barber I visited today is the one next to the Zayra2 restaurant whom I thought had been identified as Denil in an earlier post but is referred to as Adnan in Ian's post later. I don't suppose that I have much to complain about as karaokemark confirms that a wash costs an additional 5 lira. I suppose 25 lira (including my unintentional tip) is not a bad price for a cut, shave, burn off and hair wash - perhaps it lacked the drama and indulgence I had been looking forward to but was perfectly competent in the end. Apologies for the misidentification and any insult caused to Denil.

Haven't come across a good barber in Calis yet, and certainly one who does not want to tuck me up big style on the price and service given.  I have a good shave barber in Gunlukbasi, he is located opposite the old bill nick on the main road, just down from the excellent kebab retaurant.  It's also fair to say that some of the many barbers in Gunlukbasi will try and tuck you up as badly as their Calis counterparts.

But for sheer pleasure of a perfect shave with all the works or indeed a nice haircut, all at a fair price.  Then Yilden at the Ay barber in Ovacik is the best and a master, and he gets 1-2 vists a week from me, cos it is pure, pure bliss.

And ladies perish the thought that this might be male pampering, it is nothing of the sort, it is essential follical maintence, especially for the follicly challenged.  ;) : :)
