Title: Your 5 Must Have Apps
Post by: Scunner on September 18, 2013, 22:55:33 PM
Following on from a topic that was originally about Koca Calis - there are many app types on here and sorting the wheat from the chaff is a big problem in appland.

So, if you had to have just 5 apps, what would they be...

Dare I ask? What is an app? Keep the replys simple please as I can just about operate my laptop and don't understand most of the terminology used in computing. :( :( :(

It's short for Application. It's a thingy for ya phone that gets you into a website or an accessory that's already installed. A bit like when you click on a link on your computer.

Thanks for that.

I don't have a mobile phone  as I wear digital hearing aids that are not compatible with with the modern mobiles.

Don,

I take it they are behind the ear ones? I had to get in the canal for using the phone at work and mobile. I understand your problem I think.

However I think some new aids now have Bluetooth which can be used with any Bluetooth phone.

I have it already on my I phone and I pad, got it through searching on the App Store, however, if I try and search for it now its not coming up, strange!

Try Tango if you like what's app. I find with the iPad that normal messaging or FaceTime is enough for me anyway.

It really annoys me when friends who I know have an iPhone and they know I have one use what's app to contact me when i messaging and FaceTime is free and better. Even more so under iOS 7 I understand.

We have a family group set up on what's app and the kids forget about the 2 hour time delay so my phone is frequently beeping in the night.
Don't want to turn the volume down on the phone for obvious reasons.
But I could turn my iPad down.
The inbuilt messenger is very good on iPad, but because I don't have that on my phone I can't use it unless I take the iPad out and about.
I'm sure it will come in time.

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for the info.

I have the canal type also but they let out a high pitched whine when anything gets close to them. I have to use the speaker on the land lines but that's not very practical on a mobile.

I don't know what blue tooth is but I plan to change my hearing aids next May when we get back after wintering in Turkey so I'll enquire then.

Don, Bluetooth is basically a wireless connection between audio devices. You've probably seen folks using earpieces without wires connected to mobile phones or radios connected to headphones without wires. That's Bluetooth.

It'll be well worthwhile speaking to the people at your Hearing Centre about it before choosing your next appliance.

Thanks KKOB for that.

I'm having a hearing aid check before we leave home so i'll check it out then.

HELP, I am the only person on the planet that hasn't got any!!!!!!!!Do I get a special award lol.  I purchased a 2nd hand I Phone 3, really cheaply, GREAT. Went to the UK, my son-in-law set me up with an Apple ID, which at the time didn't make a mental not of, NOT GREAT, have now retrieved that. GREAT I THOUGHT, apps here I come......Now saying I have to update to IOS 5. Doesn't give me any instructions how to or even what it is. Tried downloading it on my computer, NOT GREAT, wouldn't do it.  So Appless from Calis, you know I am not techy. ANY HELP that would get me into Appland would be much appreciated.

I can't believe my great Scrabble opponent hasn't got Scrabble on her iPhone!!!

All you do is  make sure you have iTunes on your pc/laptop, connect the phone to your pc/laptop with a USB cable, your iphone will show up in iTunes, click on it, then choose 'sync'. There should be an automatic update prompt from iOS 5 to iOS 6, and then any apps you download to your computer in iTunes are automatically transferred to your iPhone.
