I want to ride my bike.... enough of that!
I fancy going inland rather than along the coast. Can anybody suggest any nice places for me and my camera?
See some of you soon:D

The list is endless!
I'll recommend a few places when I see you.

We are keen cyclists but don't want to flog ourselves to death cycling up mountains in that heat - can you recommend some places inland which don't involve too many hills?

I think you may well have a problem there as Calis & Fethiye are surrounded by mountains and as such getting any distance inland would probably involve many hills.

Steve,
It's a great place to explore, for instance head up Baris Manco heading away from the beach and about half way up take a left and within minutes you are in open country with lots of little trails, local farmers tending crops and animals and not a tourist to be seen, appart from the odd nut riding a bike !
You don't see cars here but if it's local Turkish life you are looking for then it is all around.
Enjoy

Thanks for that Rimms we have just bought bikes and that sounds great for us as well.

Cycling does let you cover more distance than you could by walking and it lets you see areas that you would never have seen if you had gone by car.
A great way to see the area!

Been a keen mountainbiker I have cycled quite a bit around Fethiye and Calis and all I will say to you all is that cycling in the summer heat make sure you have at least 2 - 3lts of fluid per hour even more if you are climbing inland

We stop for regular fluid intakes - husband will never pass by a bar. You are right though Ron and we always carry water with us, even when on foot and away from town.

We went to good old Migros - top of the range 18 gears 159ytl suspension as well! We have been happy with them but we are not bike experts. We bought baskets at the bike shop opposite the Migros corner on the main road (if that makes sense). The young man in there was a fantastic help and sells any bit of any bike you could wish for. If we had seen the shop first we may have bought there and I would certainly try him for a price comparison.
Migros had other bikes that were cheaper and different designs and they also had gears I just picked ours because I liked the colours (girly thing).
They were flat packed and you need an allen key and a couple of spanners to assemble (boo) but they went in the back of the taxi and I didn't have to ride it home (yippee).

Good post Teresa, we plan to buy bikes when we are out in august so we may look up "the young man at the bike shop opposite the Migros corner on the main road" 8)

May seem like a daft question but can you hire bikes anywhere? We like the idea of cycling but we're not keen enough to want to own them!

There's a place on the front hires bikes Val. On the right hand corner before you turn. Noticed them in April when we were over although I'm not sure what condition they were in.

Many thanks Anne and Dennis

We bought ours from one of the many shops on the one-way road out of Fethiye past the perfume shop. Went to collect them an hour or so later and rode them back to Calis. Not as daunting as it sounds!

thanks teresa, the young man in the shop is gonna wonder what he has done to up his custumer base, just goes to show what being nice and helpful can do.........dennis

I thought that buying a couple of bikes for the Villa would be attractive to some, I did not reckon for one second that Eddie Merckx and Lance Armstong would turn up.
We have ridden the bikes up and down the prom a couple of times, this duo complained that we had a spoke missing! Who do you think is to blame?

PS
The bloody outfits are worth more than the bikes, and Graham, I have spotted that spoke!

If I dressed like that on my bike I would look like I was from "Little Britain"
