Lots of kids in the UK will be receiving an inordinate amount of gifts this Christmas. Some children in Turkey will not be so fortunate. So will you help me to help them.
Here’s how it will work (hopefully)
I have randomly allocated a number to the 25 days from the first to the twenty-fifth of December.
You choose a number and I put your name against the date.
Behind each door of the calendar is a monetary amount – 10 x £ 5’s, 10 x £10’s, 4 x £ 15’s and 1 x £ 20.
By choosing a number you agree to donate the amount behind the door.
I will open a door each day starting on the first to reveal the amount behind the door and the name of the person who was allocated that day.
Hopefully this will be a success on the Forum and if so perhaps you would like to replicate it in your workplace or amongst family and friends to help the kids even more.

It is very, very generous of steve (redding43) as usual.
Steve is one of those people who is always willing to contribute to things I do on here.
Thank you so much Steve it is very much appreciated.
-
Can't help noticing it is the same names backing Highlander's fundraising efforts for the kids on here. Same as last time, same as 3 years ago.
Well done to those people, who enjoy this FREE forum and support the charities locally.
How about a few new names in the hat - a fiver once in a blue moon isn't anything really if you enjoy CBF every day or every week.
Thanks again to the great supporters of the charities in the Fethiye area - charities who change lives with pennies.
-
And that leaves 4 and 14, I think, which I will take.
-
And that leaves 4 and 14, I think, which I will take.
Superb....

It does indeed MGT - thanks so much for taking the last two :)
That's the calendar filled - YIPPPPEEEEEE.

-
It has been said before but that must have been a very special day for the kids and those fortunate enough to have made the trip.
Memories that will stay with you for ever.
-
Totally agree bewva - those fortunate enough to make the trip were only being richly rewarded for all of their tremendous efforts throughout the year.
My favourite moment, amongst many, is at 3:31 when the José Mourinho look-a-like tries to get the kids to play football ;)
-
Yes John totally agree with the first comment.
Re José Mourinho, he's let himself go a bit. ;) :o
-
Unfortunately the camera wasn't rolling earlier that day when I showed them some amazing football skills. That is actually true, but I doubt you gits will believe a word of it :D
-
;D ;D ;D
-
Off topic, I grant you but.......
Having explained my previous glittering football career to him, Teo (Bus Top) invited me to play in a football match.
With no concession to reality I readily agreed. Until, that is, he told me that we were palying at 2 o'clock.
2 o'clock !!!! I complained - you must be joking - it will be far too hot.
"Expeltive deleted" - you muppet - 2 o'clock in the morning, if we are finished at work.
-
I've missed out- I should have come back sooner as it filled so quickly over the weekend. Can we double up on any numbers? If so, pick one for me please.
-

Sorry H - i missed out as well - so if you do a second one or double up as Bluewise mentioned - then count me in.
-
That's a good idea Bluewise keep doubling up until the big reveal.
Only problem is John will start to get confused. (Its an age thing). ;)
-
Whoop..number 20 for me please xx
-
Copycat ;D .. However, will have to wait and see what "H" thinks and if he can do it. :-\
-
How about one using the alphabet.? ( H might cope with that better ) ;)
-
Sorry folks but this thread is giving me a headache now. The doctors should have the results soon.
(http://s23.postimg.org/hfj8ruu1j/hospital2.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/hfj8ruu1j/)
-
Has that picture been hairbrushed H. ?
-
No problem with doubling up on the numbers. I will try and keep track of things from my present location.
Perhaps we can entice some new names and fill up the calendar twice - how good would that be for the kids :).
Jim Fraser I'll give you number 16
slikmrs do you still want 20
bluwise - please let me know what number you want
-
Yes please...do not let Jacqui have it..
;D ;) : :)

-
How about 11 - that's like giving her one twice :o
-
Very good bluwise - 11 it shall be :)
-
If number 1 or 7 are still available for the 2nd round then may I have that, otherwise pick one for me too.
-
Ceni - 7 is already gone in the second round but you may have number 1 with the greatest of pleasure.
Thank you for helping the children. :)
-
Brilliant, thanks, going to sort my wool and patterns out for some jumpers too. hopefully someone will offer to have them posted to them to pass on when knitted.
-
1, 7, 8, 11, 16, 19 and 20 are gone from the second calendar so still 18 to choose from :).
-
At £230 a full calendar it would be a great Christmas present for the kids if we could fill 2 calendars.
-
Come on CBFers, with over 1500 subject views but only 32 numbers taken it would be nice to see some more names picking numbers, let's get this 2nd card filled. :) 8)
-
There are always GUESTS looking in on the CBF Forum that gain information
and advice for free.
Come on in GUESTS, join the Forum, say hello and make a small donation to
give a poor kid in Turkey a better christmas.
Both you and the kids will feel better for it. :)

Come on all you people on the forum, you are talking about spending thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands on purchasing a home or holidaying in Turkey. Surely a few pounds to help the kids who have so little, in the country we all love, isn't much to ask!!
-
Read 2521 times and struggling to get support >:( :-[... How about some of the restaurant owners who get free publicity on this website putting their hands in their pockets to help local Turkish children?? : :)
-
Thank you ladies for your posts urging people to participate in this. I do share your sentiments in large part.
But giving it is a very personal thing – I/we, can only ever give people the opportunity to help and hope that enough of them do.
We do only need another 11 this time ;)
-
Wonder if it is coinciding with Children in Need and The Philippines? Xmas is a busy time of year for the Charities... Restaurants and Bars Jacqui?? Don't get me started on them donating...
-
Perhaps I was over ambitious with the amounts :(
-
No John you were not overambitious, I would say you were hopeful that more than a small proportion of the people who use this site on a regular basis, would be up for helping kids who have very little compared to the many in the uk who have far too much.
-
Not over ambitious John. Were talking of between 1 or 2 rounds of drinks.
-
One of the comments from people that I consider to be CBF haters (and there are a number of people to which the success of CBF burns a hole in their life and soul, believe it or not) is that you have to donate to various charities and involve yourself in numerous 'games', if you want to be a member.
Now statistics show how false and pathetic that claim is - with over 10,000 members only a few dozen ever donate - but while I am as keen as anyone to drive our charity efforts to wider horizons and new donors, I really would hate for people to avoid joining CBF because they felt they would be signing up to being hounded for their cash.
People will support these wonderful causes. Or they won't. That's what 10 years at the helm here have taught me.
-
number 8 for Sevi please :)
-
sevi classic - I am so terrible sorry but number 8 has gone.
Please choose one of these.
2 3 4

Fantastic sevi classic - 18 is all yours.
teşekkür ederim :)

Fantastic sevi classic - 18 is all yours.

I understand what you are saying, Scunner. And it is true that not everyone likes donating to charities - and let's hope they never actually need help from a charity themselves one day - but to not be able to find 50 people from a list of 10,000 to make a small donation towards under privileged children at Christmas, is pretty sad.
I'm going to put a link to this thread in the main section and see if that helps. Do as you will, moderators.
-
Good for you Sevi Classic, it's really nice to see a local business supporting our CBF Charity. We have never been to the Sevi Classic, but will now make a point of coming to have a meal or two when we are over.

Please your welcome any time you like...
-
Can I put my name down for number 2 please?
-
You most certainly can phil5257 - thank you so much for taking parent :)
(http://s12.postimg.org/thsoohcvt/phil5257.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
-
Who's parent has Phil taken John? ;D
-
A deliberate ploy bewva - I was hoping someone would notice and post thus keeping the thread going.
-
Oh well done John. ;)
-
Yes well doner John
-
John, I so admire your effort with this one. You're a real stalwart and it must take up a lot of your time. Very well done to you and you will be so proud when the last of these numbers fill up. The children need our pennies, so come on all you folks who haven't done so, commit to a number.
:)
-
Oh go on then John, we'll take 24 :) Well done on all your efforts and thanks from the 3C's
-
Thanks pi55y - as if you do not do enough already
24 is all yours :) :) :)
-
If there any left can I have one please John. Any will be fine.
-
Great stuff piscoe - I have given you 15.
Thanks alot :)
-
Good morning, Please can I have a number .Many thanks Gill
-
Certainly Gilly1 - I have allocated you number 3.
Thank you so much.
Just to remind everyone that the number you have picked or been allocated is not the day in December.
It is the number that I random allocated to one of the 35 days.
Hope that makes sense :-[
-
Only six numbers - pick now to avoid disappointment :)
4
6 9 10
12 13
-
So H for the Joey Essex's among us how does the number thing work, i.e. when do we find out what we owe?
-
Oh dear.... here goes then
Before we kicked off, I randomly allocate the numbers 1 to 25 to the dates first to twenty-fifth December.
So, for example if you picked number 16 then that might be the second of December.
The different amounts were also randomly spread over the calendar.
And the calendar is not numbered sequential.
Members who were kind enough to participate will only find out on the day to which their number was allocated and how much money has been allocated to that day.
Exciting isn't it :) :).
I'm guessing you are now wishing you had never asked ;).
-
I get it.
No, seriously. I do.
I think.
-
Certainly Gilly1 - I have allocated you number 3.
Thank you so much.
Just to remind everyone that the number you have picked or been allocated is not the day in December.
It is the number that I random allocated to one of the 35 days.
Hope that makes sense :-[
So which month is the one with 35 days in then H? (Or do we call you Joey now?) : :) 8)
-
You may have thought that was another deliberate mistake on my part to keep the thread going Hamlet but our office calendar may prove this not to be the case.....
(http://s12.postimg.org/enmvp0e3t/asj.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/enmvp0e3t/)
bump :)
-
Not sure which I would avoid doing business with, the printers for getting it wrong or Allied Surveyors for missing the error, lol 8)
-
Now I see why your quizzes are so difficult H. ;)
-
Was that Calendar made for Joey?
-
Makes perfect sense to me. I'm meeting friends on Saturday the 35th of December.
-
So does that mean New Years Eve is on the 35th or are there now two New Years Eve's?
-
Hamlet - the calendar was of course a mock up. Here is the real one which allows me another shameless bump.
(http://s2.postimg.org/vvsq1ka6d/real_calendar.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/vvsq1ka6d/)

Pick a wreath, any wreath ;)

I realised that H, it was just another way of bumping the post :)
-
I would also like number 13 please, H.
-
Thank you Menthol not only for taking a second number but for the timely bump.
4 days left and only 5 numbers to go. I have everything crossed here that they will be taken before Sunday :)
-
Knock, knock

-
My OH (MSB) would like no 4 please? :)
-
My son would like a number of your choice John, he is not a member, has very little money, but would like to help the kids.
-
Thank MSB on my behalf lotty :)
Someone else taking a second number :-[
-
WOW echogirl1 that's simply wonderful. Please thank your son very much for me. You can be very proud of him :)
I'll give him number 6.
-
With Methol, Lotty's OH and echogirl1's generous son we are down to the last three - hard to believe really.
Can we fill the second calendar ?
As Barack Obama said "Yes we can"
Only 3 to go.......
(http://s11.postimg.org/kt9obqy1r/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/) (http://s21.postimg.org/jtyptj0gz/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/) (http://s21.postimg.org/el8a9e7fn/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

You most certainly can Fran - thank you so much for helping the kids.

(http://s21.postimg.org/jtyptj0gz/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/) (http://s21.postimg.org/el8a9e7fn/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
PS I've uncrossed some more parts - just the fingers and eyes to go. ;)
-
Hi could I please take number 10
-
Well done Tractor Boy.
And welcome. :)
-
Thank you so much tractor boy - that's very kind of you :)
-
And then there was only one - number 12. Who's up for taking it and making an old man very, very happy.
(http://s21.postimg.org/el8a9e7fn/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
-
I'll take the last one, "old man" haha
-
How very kind of you MGT - another member taking a second number :)
-
Well you did it - not one but two calendars - fantastic, simply fantastic. Thank you :)
Here is the first calendar which shows which date you have been allocated. I have a problem with the old laptop so the second one will have to wait until tomorrow.
(http://s7.postimg.org/bypf86g47/CALIScalendar1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/bypf86g47/)
-
Who got the 49th of Octember?
-
Oh bugger! I would have taken that if I'd known it was available 8)
-
Well done john ;D
-
Is it my terrible eyesight or has Jacqui not got a number?
-
Could you check number 2 please as I thought I had been allocated it? If it has been allocated to 2 people just put me down on second calendar for the same number.
-
sorry ignore that I must be on 2nd calendar . Senior moment!!
-
Well done H, what a great job, looking forward to next month and the money rolling in.
-
Is it my terrible eyesight or has Jacqui not got a number?
Jacqui got Christmas Day - it just so happens that there was no number on the square.
-
Here's the second calendar. Here's hoping that they are both correct. :-[
(http://s24.postimg.org/ze0fz1ru9/CALIScalendar2.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/ze0fz1ru9/)
Thank you all :)
-
Hi H, I was suppose to be No.20 in the first Calendar.... I am bereft that you forgot me... How could you?
;D :o :P :-*
-
As if Jacqui :)
As I said in my first post
"I have randomly allocated a number to the 25 days from the first to the twenty-fifth of December".
You picked 20 and I had allocated that to the 25th.
The advent calendar I picked to use did not have the number 25, simply a big flower.
(http://s29.postimg.org/56j52k0mr/calendar1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/56j52k0mr/) (http://s28.postimg.org/7hbqds0mh/CALIScalendar1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/7hbqds0mh/)
:)
-
You picked 20 and I had allocated that to the 25th.
-
Ah :-[ - a "seemed like a good idea at the time" moment :-[.
The thought process (yes I know), if I remember it correctly, was that not knowing what day members had until very near the event would add to the excitement.
-
And it has worked, H. I'm practically weeing myself here.

Time for the practicalities - there are three ways you can donate
1. via paypal at john.stephen@hotmail.co.uk
2. at the 3C’s shop at the Eyna Restaurant - Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am until 2pm. Please tell the staff who you are and that the donation is for the advent calendar.
I’d also be grateful if you drop me an email to let me know if you donated at the shop.
(http://s30.postimg.org/e3eopemgt/3_Cs_flag.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
3. by sending me cash or a cheque – if you email me at the above address or through the Forum I will give you the address.
Thanks

Time to start opening up the calendars.
December 01 was allocated to steve (redding43) in the first calendar and MGT in the second and £ 5 was allocated to that date. Thank you both :)
As the days go by more of the pictures behind each calendar will be revealed. I should warn members that the picture behind the second calendar is without doubt the most unseasonal one you are ever liable to see.

Please be sure to let him know how extremely grateful I am.

"Here’s how it will work (hopefully)
I have randomly allocated a number to the 25 days from the first to the twenty-fifth of December.
You choose a number and I put your name against the date.
Behind each door of the calendar is a monetary amount – 10 x £ 5’s, 10 x £10’s, 4 x £ 15’s and 1 x £ 20.
By choosing a number you agree to donate the amount behind the door.
I will open a door each day starting on the first to reveal the amount behind the door and the name of the person who was allocated that day."

I think without being overly critical, it may have been better to let everyone have their choice of numbers that corresponded to the day of the month, because many of the members cant deal with the numbers they chose not being the day of the month on the calendar, if you know wat I'm saying??

Hello H a bit confused, did you share number 18 with others? ???
-
poppy50 - I have sent you an email, I think :-[
If not let me know. It read..
I do apologise for overcomplicating this - it did seem like a good idea at the time.
Here's an extract from my first post which I hope clarifies things
Here’s how it will work (hopefully)
I have randomly allocated a number to the 25 days from the first to the twenty-fifth of December.
You choose a number and I put your name against the date. You choose 18 and that was allocated to 05 December
Behind each door of the calendar is a monetary amount – 10 x £ 5’s, 10 x £10’s, 4 x £ 15’s and 1 x £ 20.
By choosing a number you agree to donate the amount behind the door.
I will open a door each day starting on the first to reveal the amount behind the door and the name of the person who was allocated that day.

steve (redding43) - just to tell you that your donations via paypal have arrived safely. Thank you so much.
Steve will probably not thank me for doing this but I really do have to tell members that his maths in trying to add up his four donations was absolutely shocking ;). Thank you very, very much steve :)
Mind you he is not alone on this Forum in that respect. Others have made a similar mistake for which I am very grateful.
-
Anytime John. Thanks again

Can you give me details of how to pay please? Thanks x
-
Hi susiepink
1. via paypal at john.stephen@hotmail.co.uk only if you have internet access of course ;)
2. at the 3C’s shop at the Eyna Restaurant - Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am until 2pm. Please tell the staff who you are and that the donation is for the advent calendar. When it re-opens after being decorated. If you can donate in £'s that would be splendid
I’d also be grateful if you drop me an email to let me know if you donated at the shop.
(http://s30.postimg.org/e3eopemgt/3_Cs_flag.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
3. by sending me cash or a cheque – if you email me at the above address or through the Forum I will give you the address I understand that this may not be an option for you.
Thanks

Very well done John, you did it, and put in such a lot of hard work. Many congrats. Sheila xx
-
I had intended posting this tomorrow but my laptop has completely died so here goes. Please read the last bit, it's important.
Firstly, there are many people who should have featured on calendar one but I could only use the photos on the 3C's website at the time. If you are not there then please accept my apologies. Calendar two was only for light entertainment.
After that just what can I say.
I tentativley set out the fill an Advent calendar that would have raised £ 230. But YOU soon filled two calendars and that instantly raised the total to £ 460.
But that reckoned without the generosity of the poeple on here. Some people donated more than was allocated and in one case donated without having chosen a number.
That generosity raised the toal by £ 75 to £ 535
And I have to tell you that the staff of Allied Souter & Jaffrey (my lot) and two architectural practices who I frequently work with agreed to fill a third calendar. Now given that these people have no connection whatsoever to Calis, I didn't think that I could ask the same amounts of money. So this calendar should have raised only £ 60.
I say should have bdecause once again I had reckoned without the generosity of people. As with the Calis calendars people donated more than was allocated and instead of £ 60 my Works calendar raised £ 121.
So I am delighted to say that when all the money comes in the toal will be £ 656.
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ ON
I did not contribute 1 Tl to the total (well except for the fiver brenda52 borrowed, but I remain hopeful that I can get this back without the threat of violence). YOU, the members of the wonderful CBF, raised ALL of the money. So ALL of the thanks goes to YOU.
If a certain someone, who loved helping childern, is looking down, smiling and saying "Well done dad" then that is enough for me.
And lastly, I will doubtless be calling on your generosity again i the future, but please remember what scunner says "giving on CBF will never be required or indeed expected. Thos that give will.
May I wish you a Happy, and above all healthy 2014.
Thank you so much for helping the underprivileged children.
-
Fantastic.
-
Well done John for organising this event. £656 is a remarkable achievement and well worth the effort that you put in.
Also well done to those that took part.
I hope you get the fiver back off the present Mrs H. ;)
-
Brilliant news John, well done again. Very glad to be a small part of this worthy cause
-
Nice one H.
-
Very well done H.
-
This was a really great fundraising idea.. I dont know how you keep coming up with them. I didn't donate but it has kept my interest every day. Loved it.. Not everyone is on the Calendar obviously but will they care? No... Well done H. Xx
-
John, thank you on behalf of Pete, myself and all at the 3Cs for this tremendous fundraising effort. I know that the money could not be raised without the generosity of forum members and now as it turns out your work colleagues, and we thank them all for this generosity. But it takes a special person to come up with an idea like this and to see it through to fruition and you are that special person and we take our hats off to you - and yes I am sure that a certain someone is proudly looking down and saying "well done dad".
656 pounds is an amazing amount of money -around 2000tl and this will really help the children Thank you and thanks to everone who has contributed to this unusual but fun
competition.
-
Great effort 'H'
Happy new Year to everyone :D :D
-
Now that I'm back from my little holiday in a deliberately t'internet free zone, I'll pay my tenner into 3Cs here ;)
Once again, thanks a million, on behalf of 3Cs, for organising this.

My sincere apologies for not including MSB in my thanks. :-[
-
Nearing the end of your marathon effort John. ? Well done ;)
Thanks kevins3 (and Anne and bluwise) but in all seriousness, sitting with a laptop is quite easy when compared to setting up 220 stalls in the pouring rain and making sure that everything runs smoothly on the day of the Fayre.
-
No problem John. Always happy to help such a worthy cause.
Happy New Year to you and Brenda.
Keep up the good work.
Martin

"…...sitting with a laptop is quite easy when compared to setting up 220 stalls in the pouring rain….."
Even easier to do nothing H - you most definitely deserve the thanks especially as this last fundraiser was just one of many.
-
If I could ask a big favour of those kind people who chose a number but do not come on here as often as I do.
Could you let we know which method to donate you are going to use (paypal, cash or in Turkey) and that will let me get the paypal money sent and hopefully take advantage of the exchange rate.
Many thanks in advance
H
-
Nope - my Paypal account is a lost cause - it will not accept my new card!
Anyway, I have sent the monies to you John using my husband's Paypal account and hope that you have received them. Do let me know please.
What a very wonderful thing you have done by organising this Advent Calendar fund raising, H.
It is such an excellent way to allow us to be able to show our appreciation of the amazing thing that is CBF!
Happy New Year to you and your family, H and to everyone at CBF Towers and the proletariat of Calis Beach Forumland. Rock on 2014.
-
Just caught up with this John and I am thrilled to hear the grand total. You are far too modest but you must pat yourself on the back on this one. I salute you on this brilliant fund raiser for your tine and commitment. You will have made a lot of children very hsppy. Well done sir x x

Your donation safely received menthol. :)
Thanks toky.
-
With a great deal of help from scunner, we transferred all but £ 15 of the money raised in the UK today.
We did this to try and take maximum advantage of the current exchange rate.
I have to tell you, that with the money hopefully donated directly in Turkey, and due to more people's amazing generosity, that the final total was not £ 656.00 but £ 706.00.
Many thanks to you all for helping the kids.
H
-
Stupendous effort John, what happened to the last £15 ?
-
Great news and wonderful amount raised.
-
Well done to everyone who contributed :D and a big thank you
to John absolutely super way to raise money for the children.
-
Stupendous effort John, what happened to the last £15 ?
It's not a major issue echogirl1 just good people who chose a number but are not prolific visitors to the Forum and haven't got around to donating. I am sure they will when they next visit.
-
Wow, that's around 2,500 TRY!
That's a lot of exercise books/pens/whatever other useful thing the children need.
-
Or about half a set of playground equipment or IRO 1.5 hearing aids :)
-
Or enough to provide 2.5 university bursaries or to purchase desks and chairs and other equipment for the new English learning centre (more on this one in the next couple of weeks).
Again well done John a great result and the money has now been safely received. Thank you :)
