Title: Heard a rumour.
Post by: mac2010 on November 01, 2013, 07:49:40 AM
One of the shop owners near the new fethiye town square told me that all the shops along side it will be pulled down because of the buildings unsafe structure. Does any one know if its true.. I know that there is some apartments that seem to lean over butI was not thinking it was that bad.

Have heard this one surface every few years for as long as I can remember.  Some of the flats are in a bit of a state structurally, but so far its always just been rumours.

There are two aartment buildings resently condemed but still being lived in.
Another survey is to be carried out to see exactly how many have to be demolished.
If you stand opposite the buildings, next to the water, you can see a couple of them leaning quite badly.

So they do actually condem buildings in Turkey? Interesting as we have an aprtment block behind our place that might fall into that category. Leans really badly and the ground is flooded almost up to July time.

How can you find out if a building has been condemed?

How can you find out if a building has been condemed?

Usually from all your neighbours after it's fallen down.   ;)

In the case of the Fethiye ones, it's only the neighbours that are keeping it up  :)

They do lean quite a lot. Is this where the Kismet bar is?

Yes it's in the row of bars that start near the blue Culture Centre and line the side of the new square.

Ah, cheers, Scunner. I wasn't entirely sure before.

I have looked at these buildings from the Kordon but never actually walked down there for some reason.

I wonder what happens in Turkey under such circumstances? Do they just expect businesses and residents own insurance to cover a demolition and loss of business?

Does anyone know why the buildings lean so much? Is it earthquake damage?

I think poor construction is likely - you can see the 2nd right building is pulling away from the (straight) far right building so possibly insufficient foundation. It would be interesting to know in what order these blocks appeared. It is an interesting area, one of the very few where there is such a thing as 100% building permission:

That photo gives an idea of the problem but with the naked eye it is far more shocking. The white (thin) building is not a place for a snooker table :P

Gosh yes. When you actually stand and look, it seems much more obvious.
