Heard on local radio today that Thomson will be flying from Aberdeen to Turkey next year. ;D
-
I wish I'd known before the radio announced it. Oh wait...

O.K. Must have missed that post.s :P
However, glad T.C now have some competition. ;D
-
I'm so with you on the anti TC stance, Jacqui. Awful, awful airline. And that's in comparison to some pretty bad competition.
Flew with Jet2 this time. They weren't too bad. But the planes still had ashtrays .......
-
Hoping when Phil retires we will be able to travel to other airports in the U.K. But in the meantime hope Aberdeen will attract more Tour Companies. I really dislike T.C too.
-
I hate TC too, but would use them if they were cheapest/best times :(
-
Been no choice for us but T.C however as they always farm out our flights to Turkish airlines, it pleases us, as the Turkish airlines are much better.
-
And do the Turkish airlines fly direct to Dalaman from Aberdeen?
I have been seriously considering using Gatwick or Heathrow for the opportunity to fly direct on Turkish Airlines. Just to actually attempt an enjoyable flight for once and not be treated like a battery chicken.
-
I think Jacqui means airlines from Turkey, not Turkish Airlines. ;)
TA are very good indeed (IMO far better than BA) but it's the wait at Istanbul - which can be a few hours or even next day for the vaguely connecting flight to Dalaman that is the pain. A far better idea is to break it up and spend a night or two in Istanbul prior to internal flight to DLM.
-
T.C. sell off their flights from Aberdeen to Pegasus and Freebird. So when people book with T.C. They do not mention this fact. The only way to know for the novice is when they try to book seats together, meals etc., To the initiated we know by the flight number when it changes from TC.
However, the Turkish Airlines used are much better than T.C. nicer staff, good planes, more legroom and no hard sell every two minutes. It makes the flights much more pleasant.
-
"..and no hard sell every two minutes....."
Such as ?
-
Such as T.C. pushing a trolley up and down for most of the flight flogging stuff. It's really quite peaceful on the Turkey owned flights.
-
flogging stuff ?
The only thing I have been offerd on a TC flight is Duty Free (which I am grateful for) and scratch cards which I would hardly classify as "hard sell"
-
Are you kidding H? First it's drinks, then food/snacks, then duty free, then scratchcards, then another drinks trolley and I'm sure I've missed one or two out!
-
First it's drinks: that'll do me - 3 G&T's for a tenner, bring it on.
then food/snacks: same trolley surely.
then duty free: that'll do me again - 2 Litres of gin - one large one before we go out for a meal and one large on our return
then scratchcards trolley: accepted
then another drinks: I respectfully refer you to my previous response.

OK £13.75 :)

Well if you were on a flight from Dalaman to Glasgow, leaving Turkey at 2am and arriving in Glasgow at around 04:30 and then a drive home, and were given the aisle seat in the last row (which is narrower than all the others and I am not) and have to listen to all these trolleys being prepared just behind your head, then each one wheeled up and down, for the entire flight, combined with TC staff talking at full volume continuously (again within 18" of your seat) about the biggest load of cr*p you've ever heard, when all you want to do is perhaps sleep for one hour out of the 4.5 you are on the flight so you may not end up driving your car into a concrete bridge on your way home at daybreak...
...then maybe you would hate Thomas Cook as much as I do.
-
and your point is ;)
-
H - you must have the tolerance levels of a saint.
Realising that I have no choice but to take a TC flight if I do want to go to Dalaman, really makes the whole airport/flying routine even more of a pain.
I also realise that this is something of a first world problem and that I am actually very lucky to be flying anywhere.

I read in the press and it was also highlighted by a member on this Forum a few years ago that T.C. give 10p to Charity from every scratch card they sell for £1.00. As the Americans say "you do the math"
