I didn't click the link Nichola, waste of time, as an extremely patriotic and proud Scotsman, it will not happen.

Strange isn't it? As a Scotsman living in England you will not get the vote. However, we two, an Englishwoman and an Irishman living in Scotland, we will get the vote..

And another English/Irish combination here with two votes  :)

Has anyone seen any polls on the likely outcome? From the people I know it is a scientific 0% For 100% against. Seems like Salmond is playing some ultimate fairy tale fantasy game, where succeeding is impossible.

It seems to me, an ignorant Englishwoman, that the only people to gain from an independent Scotland are the SNP who will have a bigger voice in the politics of the United Kingdom, united we stand, divided we most definitely fall!!

One of the latest polls say No's have a 9% lead with 15 % undecided

Alex Salmond may already be dead in the water because not enough people trust him and the more he continues to steadfastly refuse to give specific answers to specific questions he worse off he will be.

Unless he can categorically convince enough people that they will be better off then he will be dead in the water.

As was said today in the Scottish Parliament - he gives off the impression of someone who will offer and promise anything to get independence.

Should he get it, I doubt many trust him to keep those nice things in place for long.

After meetings with him when he was our local M.P.  Meetings on different matters,  I  can confirm, he promised help and did absolutely nothing.  He is a total waste of space who is only interested in Alex Salmond.  I have yet to meet anyone local to me who has a good word for him.  All the years he was local M.P. the only thing he did was buy himself a lovely big old mill in it's own grounds, so he could have a local second home.

The really dangerous thing is that he is a very skilful politician. if it were not for him I doubt we would be even discussing the matter.

He says that he will save £ 100's of million pounds be getting rid of Trident from Scotland. That's probably true. But what he doesn't tell us is how much our share of relocating it will be or how many jobs, direct and indirect, he will have destroyed.

He says we will keep the pound sterling. But that's not our call. What will he do if George Osborne says No thanks and sends us homeward to think again.

Etc. etc. etc.......................

Yes it is Jacqui. And the absolute last thing I want is for "celebrity Scots" who have set up home in the wonderful USofA and who haven't paid taxes in this country for years, coming back buying a sh*t-hole of a flat in Glasgow and registering so that they can get a vote.

Well if our very own exiled in England, Scot, Gordon, wants a little shack back in Scotland so he can get the vote.  Billy Connolly is selling up his place in Aberdeenshire.  (So he will not have a vote).
These are the details of the place.

He says that the newly independent Scotland will of course be a member of the EU. But that is not "our call" either.

He says the dream will be paid for with North Sea Oil & Gas revenues. But experts have advised that these are unluckily to be sustained.

In other words, he promises things that are simply not in his hands to deliver.

Spain has already informed the idiot that Scotland will NOT have an automatic right to EU membership, and Jacqui, Billy's place isn't big enough for me & my "clan", I know, I have been there as a guest !!  It is also not one my foibles to vote for a lost cause, independence for Scotland will NOT happen !! Trust me, I'm a better singer than Tom Moss.   ;)  ;)

i couldn't possibly be voting for someone who doesn't allow us discounts on alcohol  ;)  ;)

Or indeed introduces minimum pricing on alcohol that increases the prices you need to pay, and the difference is allowed to be kept by the already loaded supermarkets.

In my opinion "Yes it is". If an independent Scotland wanted to use the £ I can't see anything to stop them from doing so - and certainly not George Osborne (he doesn't own the £). What he could do, if still in office, is to refuse to join a currency union with Scotland. This would mean that the Scotland Government would have no (or very little) control of its currency. But, since the main levers of currency control have already been handed over to the Bank of England, it isn't really controlled by the current UK Government anyway. That means that Scottish currency would be controlled by the Bank of England. Would that be an absolute disaster? Well it's what Scotland has got now.

The real question is, would that be independence?  :)

Yep, that's actually relevant instead of the fantasy claim that Osborne wouldn't let Scotland use the £.

It might end up with Scotland having to apply for EU membership at which point the powers that be might force them to join the Euro.

Just seen this thread.............Time for my rant!!
It's easy for Salmond/Sturgeon and Co to promise us the world. They can promise us a fairytale land where everything is inexpensive and nothing bad ever happens!! But can they provide any evidence of these fantastical claims............Not that I've heard!!
From my social and work circle there are very, very few who are even considering a "Yes" vote.
What is really weeing me off is the news that, if Scotland votes "No" then Westminster is going to slash the Scottish budget next year!! If this turns out to be the case I think that this is unfair and will have been brought upon us by Alex Salmond and his SNP party who are out of touch with public opinion.
I sincerely hope that Scotland votes to stay part of the union next year and that the English, Welsh and Irish realise that, much as we are proud to be Scottish the majority of us have, all along, wanted to remain part of the United Kingdom.

Salmond is relying on the wee neds and numpties to vote yes because they haven't a clue if its New Year or New York!. They'll believe all his verbal diarrhoea but hopefully they'll do on voting day what they always do, and stay in their beds.

The very reason Salmond gave the Independence vote to 16 year olds is because he thinks all this pie in the sky ideas of Utopia will appeal to them, as they have no clue what he is really like.  Us people who had him as our M.P. locally, know of all the broken promises.

This should probably be in the jokes, but I know Salmond and the last line is no joke.

 ----------------------------------------------

A Scotsman died and went to Heaven. As he stood in front of the Pearly
Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, 'What are all
those clocks?'

St. Peter answered, 'Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone who has ever been
on earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie, the hands on your clock
move.'

... 'Oh', said the man. 'Whose clock is that?'

'That's Mother Teresa's', replied St. Peter. 'The hands have never
moved, indicating that she never told a lie.'

'Incredible', said the man. 'And whose clock is that one?'

St. Peter responded, 'That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have
moved twice, telling us that Abraham told only two lies in his entire
life.'

'Where's Alex Salmond's clock?' asked the man.

St Peter replied, 'We are using it as a ceiling fan. ‘

The plan to give the vote to sixteen year olds may yet backfire. A recent mock referendum at Nairn academy upper school produced results of 70% against.

I do hope all this "Better Together", "Don't leave the union" spirit reappears in 2017 for the EU referendum (if it happens) but I fear that people who don't know the difference between ECHR and the EC will vote for the country to commit economic suicide. What are they called Toky? Oh yes, wee neds and numpties.
