Any idea where I get one, needed for hire car in turkey apparently

Don't know who told you that, a UK driving licence is good enough. 8)

I've never known a Turkish Car Hire company to insist on an IDP. They've always accepted my UK licence.
However, you can get International Driving Permits (IDPs) from Post Offices, the AA, and the RAC
http://www.postoffice.co.uk/international-driving-permit
http://www.theaa.com/getaway/idp/
http://www.rac.co.uk/travel/driving-abroad/international-driving-permit/
Be careful of other organisations or websites offering International Driving Licences as they are often a rip-off.

Oh thats great thanks

Not necessary, but advised by the British Government to get one. We have hired cars for years and never had one, but a couple of years ago my husband read an article which advised to get an International Driving licence which he did.

Just be aware that there's a big difference between an International Driving PERMIT and an International Driving LICENCE.
An IDP is an internationally recognised official document.
ANY individual or organisation can produce and issue an IDL ! You can even buy them on EBay.
