Amazed how such a confident guy like Wiggo was so, so nervous stood in front of a woman waving a sword.
Seriously though, I don't get it. I would be nervous meeting my heroes, Nile Rogers, the departed David Ruffin & Barry White and Teddy Pendergrass or the greatest, Mohamed Ali.
How about you?

Friend at works sister was also getting an OBE today, she text to say it was The Queen doing the honours. Lovely to hear of ,,ordinary people, being recognised for the work they do.

Some years ago I phoned radio Five Live to have a rant on a phone-in. I had to wait all through a news bulletin and by the time it came to speak to Nicky Campbell I was a shaking nervous wreck.

Have never met one of my heroes (share the Mohammed Ali hero-worship there, Rimms) and couldn't care less about the queen.
But the most nervous I have ever been was giving a presentation to 200 other Royal Mail managers on a stage with someone timing me and getting ready to ring a bell if I went over my allotted time slot. It was the first time I ever understood the phrase 'knees knocking'.

I'm totally at a loss as to how/why anyone can be knighted for 'services to cycling' !!!!

Probably because his win on the world stage has motivated many people to get on their bikes and get fit.
Just wait until the Tour comes to Yorkshire next summer. The bike brigade will be out in force and why not?

As for nerves. I was once fishing at Roundhay Park in Leeds when the Calendar team came round to film for their tea time program. They filmed me catching a fish and promptly letting it slip out of my shaking hands back into the water.
I then had to "release" a stone into the lake so it looked like I was putting the fish back safely.
Quite nerve racking this TV game ;)

No you've got that wrong he got it for cycle servicing.
As to the British discredited honours system, if I was to be offered a gong - very very unlikely - I'd tell them to poke it. It's an anachronism in a modern society that any basis of recognition of good work relies upon medieval (and neo medieval) titles and outdated royal patronage. Besides which all the people deserving of awards are devalued in large part by the use of the system to increasingly honour political cronyism, the rich and powerful and rather worryingly those who have offered or delivered little but come under the title of celebrity.

USB, you & I obviously do not have bikes !! ;) Totally agree with everything you say, there are more deserving people who NEVER receive any recognition, and if they did, would probably refuse it, as 'I was only doing my job'.

Dos this mean we have to put up with MORE roadworks as cycle lanes are made for the un-taxd and un-insured? ;-)

Come on - he's is the first Brit to win the Tour De France.
She should have cut his sideburns off though.
