Title: Telephone in the UK
Post by: joannasal on January 07, 2014, 13:38:20 PM
I am going to England for 3 days. Can I use my Turkish telephone (Turkcell) whilst I am there? Thanks

You'll have to make sure you activate roaming on it before you leave Turkey and it could be very expensive to use it depending on what tariff you're on.

I think the default Turkcell setting for international roaming is OFF.  So to switch it on you should use your handset to dial in *111#.  But as KKOB says international roaming can be very expensive, international roaming with Turkcell is even more expensive, so use wisely!!  ;)

It was always not possible on pay as you go, could be switched on (on request) if you had a contract.

The roaming option is available on pay as you go (Turkcell).

If you do have a contract, you can ask to temporarily up the contract to be able to use for a specified number of minutes in the UK for a set amount. This works out much cheaper. I usually go to Candan telecom and find them helpful.

If you have a smart phone, remember that once the roaming has been switched on your phone will still pick up web data when on , even if YOU are not actually accessing the web on your phone.    There was a programme about it this am. One couple spent 4 days in Spain and hardly accessed the web at all and they got a mighty shock of a £3,000+  on their next bill.
