I cannot remember the name of the Restaurant that was sitting here yesterday. It was a good looking building on 4 floors with bars and Restaurant with a super roof terrace and see views so shock when i walked round the corner and saw this. If you go from the finans bank in the direction of the amphitheatre it is only just round the corner approx 100m same side. The builders say it will be !!! Yes you guest it, a Restaurant.

It is the Cadde or was. There's a thread about it. It offered a very good discount to CBF and shortly after this happened I don't know if the two are connected;-).
-
It's the Cadde restaurant, apparently it suffered damage during the earthquake and then failed a test carried out by council engineers who declared the building unsafe. It closed during the summer and had a big sign outside advising customers about the problem.
-
Can see by the first picture that they are typical workmen, one working in the digger the others watching. Takes me back to they old days of the GPO :)
-
Couldn't they have waited till the summer to do this? :D
-
Loved the Cadde for a really lovely chilled out lunch and fabulous views. I am glad that another restaurant will open there, I hope they will put a similar terrace on the roof.
-
To my knowledge CADDE's owner Talip still holds the right of first refusal to return there once the building is rebuilt according to code.
Since then Talip, being a restless passionate young entrepreneur, he has transplanted the 'live music' portion of CADDE to Paspatur (next to Car Cemetery), two blocks up.
..and he has taken over the restaurant of the old 'Yasaroglu Hotel' in Ovacik with the intention of opening there a new restaurant named 'a la Turka Kitchen & Bar'. They already started demolition work, as he wants to redo the Kitchen and Bath areas from the ground up.
So we'll just have to wait and see if CADDE returns back and exercises his right to re-occupy his original digs or moves on to better things.

Could you try and write in a style that isn't "plugging my mate" all the time...
-
I read somewhere that it was not the earthquake that the cause of the problem but when it was renovated either ground floor or upper floors that a main beam was taken out and that later the quake caused or showed up the weakness.
-
Well it would :D
-
We visited the new Cadde in Paspatur, it was a total disappointment as it was a shabby place with a terrace that had views across to all the washing machines on the floor above the Turkish Baths. We were the only ones in and the tables all had overflowing ashtrays. No food available and no home made lemonade, just sprite. We had a drink and left vowing never to return.
-
Now the hoops man is in the loop. Cheers guys.

Could you try and write in a style that isn't "plugging my mate" all the time...
Ah.. I just see this now Scunner. Well I like my mate and what he does. I thought I was being balanced, and always try to add useful information to a thread while I write about my positive experiences, but I'll take my cues from you as an observer. If you think it sounds like a plug all the time, I'll take your word for it, as I've seen you act as a just moderator, and be more sensitive on this issue. Sorry 'bout that.
-
It is acceptable to plug a place you like, run by a person you like. Not sure about you being balanced - maybe if you posted about any of the thousands of topics other than this place and the other one you were plugging (Ala Turk something), your overall contribution would come across as balanced. At the moment it comes across as you coming here to advertise your friend's establishments and nothing else.
-
I see your point on 'balanced overall'. I was referring to 'within a given post' that I was posting. I am a regular reader but mostly what one could call a 'lurker', I admit. I find this forum immensely useful for supporting the principles I believe what the local businesses must operate under in order to improve their level of service to attract the kind of crowd that has seen a world outside of Fethiye.
I wish more local business owners were exposed to this. There is a nucleus of business owners, and for restaurants, a few that comes to mind is Eyna, Nar, Mancero, Mozaik Garden, and now AlaTurka (then Cadde), and those are not the only ones, that are showing the effort it requires to do the right thing. I am new in town -just a little over a year- and I try to observe and soak up the dynamics of the town in order to help move it forward. I intend to develop an awareness for 'living local' and one needs not be a rocket scientist to see that it is not only the local consumer that needs to be made aware, but the local merchant has a lot to learn and needs to get his/her act together if they hope to keep any decent level of tourism to flourish in this town.
I keep on going as if you care what I have to say, so I hope you do.
I am still hopeful that I will find a decent number of ex-pats who care and are willing to come to meetings to preach and tell their experiences dealing with merchants -directly to the merchants themselves, whenever we get them in one room together for that purpose.
Coming back to 'plugging my mate' -I apologize that it appears to be so, and it does when looking at my behavior in the forum in general. However, in Talip's case he needed his story to be told in English to the forum members, In numerous other cases I do what I can to help the local business owners that are making an effort to do the right thing. Another thing i've been doing is helping with correcting errors in the menus. It is no secret that it is an epidemic and it makes the place look unprofessional. After helping several restaurants individually, now i've been telling the graphic and print shops that I come in contact with that I will proof read their work for free, if they only take the time to email it to me before it goes to print. There is no excuse for that. The list goes on with different things for different trades. It gives me pleasure to help when I can. It builds a positive energy I believe the town needs. They need not compete on price alone but by differentiating what they offer, each with what they are good at. So in that picture, I apologize if I was plugging a friend while not much contributing something else to the forum community. Hopefully, as time allows and I visit the forum regularly -not only when i need to 'update info'- I will be able to be useful more.
Right now I admit I am a 'taker', soaking up the comments of the members and taking notes to give concrete examples (names witheld of course) to teach the locals how to improve things. But I am a 'giver' too, and hope to be giving back over time to your forum.
Now, that I noticed I am repeating myself, is a good time to say god night -if you are still here of course. Speaking of 'here' I once offered to meet when I first joined the forum, but not sure what was your reply. I think you were away then. To me it seemed like you wanted to keep your distance. If that has changed or I misunderstood, I'd still want to make a face to face acquaintance with you.
ta ta.

My response was that I don't live there anymore so meeting you would be quite a walk. I still currently don't live there anymore.
Without writing reams I will just say briefly once more that there are many things to post about, including places run by friends and places you like - when people just post about how good a certain restaurant is, you have to ask if they are here to help or here to advertise. A good way to avoid that is to help people who want to know if there is a laundrette or if you can get Hartleys jam - at the same time as saying how great a restaurant is. And it comes across as a more credible contribution.
-
Maybe they do a nice Hartley jam in Talips place
-
There's a very good launderette in Calis, just across the road from Pastries and Pies
-
No wonder we couldnt find it on Wed. Heard much about it and thought it would be a good place for lunch........
-
Not tried the food, but they do a mighty fine load of washing for 15tl
