This time for the wonderful Embrace Fundraisers - who do magnificent work locally including the recent collection of jumpers and wool to make jumpers to keep needy kids warm this winter. Another local cause who work tirelessly to help where possible and don't get the coverage and praise they deserve.
If you would like to see some of their projects here is their CBF section (http://www.calis-beach.co.uk/forum/embrace_fundraisers_news_events/)
So here goes - simply..How many lira will the Pound be worth on the last day of April?
£5 a guess, you can have multiple guesses and winner (closest) takes half, half goes to help the Embrace projects. Please pay by Paypal ( paypal account keith @ calis-beach.co.uk ) or if you know it, the Embrace Shop in Goonlabashy. If the latter please tell them it is for the CBF compy and just let me know you paid there.
Rate will be taken at midday, from the Yahoo page: http://finance.yahoo.com/ TRL/GBP page.

-
Many thanks to Jim Frazer who came into the shop today and paid us 50 lira direct. Lovely to put a face to a name as well as it is the first time I had met him. Keith you know me too well.... the tissues are never far away when we are given help which is so unexpected and very welcome. We met a lovely young lad of 14 who has never walked but they now believe it is only knee problems so later this month we are paying for him to go to a specialist in Izmeer who will decide if knee replacements would enable him to be free of the wheelchair he uses permanently. Fingers crossed as it would open up a whole new world for him .How exciting and amazing would that be.

Not in on this one ....Because I am attempting to knit as many jumpers as possible for Embrace before my visit in May so there is a stock pile for next winter and £5 would supply wool for another one ... ;D ;)
-
i will be having another go, as soon as updated list is up i will chose the winning amout :)
-
What updated list?
-
the one i was hoping you would then produce :0
-
I'm absolutely lost, why would I need to produce an updated list? The list on page 1 is the list..?

Good for you Patrice - I'm sure £5 of wool and being able to knit would be the best way to invest a fiver for the cause. Thank you.
-
Oh dear Scott

Hi Keith, can't see 3.40 up there, so we will go for that... We will try and find the embrase shop when we go to Calis at the end of this month. Sue and Tony xx
-

-
3.91 is yours Marggie and funds safely received with thanks.
-
Colwyn: 3.89
Echogirl 1: 3.90
Marggie: 3.91
I suspect Echogirl 1's guess of 3.90 might not end up being closest, not much range there :D
-
Did you get the payment for Phil's guess??
-
I did thanks Jacqui - I am adding received PP payments in reply 1 on page 1 (as much to help me when all is done and dusted). Many thanks to Lord Harvey of Peterhead.
-
Lord Harvey of Longhaven actually.
-
I chuckled at highlanders guess, but at this rate I don't think he will be too far off the mark :-\ xx
-
Got 3.7 in Fethiye today.
-
And 3.85 today ....
-
has the closing date pssed Scunner?
-
Jan 25th was the closing date. I apologise to H for saying it was the end of January.
As it's for charity I will accept offers till the end of January but as it's not as difficult the later time goes on, a guess between now and Friday will cost a tenner each :D
-
Savage!
-
Just trying to raise money for people who don't have any lira saved to worry about
-
Hi Keith, didn't find the Embrace shop, so just sent you the cash via Paypal. Sue xx
-
Did the cash come through ??? Xx
-
Oh received with thanks Sue, sorry I wasn't looking for paypal payments :)
-
still waiting for the van Kieth
-
Oops yes it arrived thanks :)
-
With only just over a week to go,
Can anyone give current rate and who's in contention for the lead
Cheers
-
Todays the day
-
My understanding of exchange rates leads me to believe that the exchange rate at the allotted time was 3.5606 Turkish Lirasi's to the Great British Pound.
With that, I declare the winner of the 2014 CBF Guess the exchange rate competition to be
HIGHLANDER
-
Much deserved too! Well done H! ;D ;D ;D
-
Brilliant, I was sure the reason he was hanging on to the answer was that himself, Scunner was the winner. I know where the winnings will be going, a great result xx
-
Well done, H. ;)
-
Congrats Mr H
-
Well done H :)
-
Well done, Highlander.
-
I am genuinely amazed that my guess of 7.39 was the closest.
It would of course be totally remiss of me not to follow every other single "winner" on this Forum and ask scunner to ensure that the wonderful Embrace Charity receive my winnings.
Thanks for starting the competition scunner :)
-
Why am I not surprised - thank you John, on behalf of the fine ladies (and as I am reminded, often) gentlemen of Embrace - re-donating the winning prize fund obviously doubles the money raised and given to the charity concerned - allowing them to do double the magic locally. We have an incredible record of winners 'refusing' the prize. So much so that when I won the golf one I wanted the money but was too embarrassed to say so!
Only kidding - a great all round result for all. Mavis will be choked up - guaranteed :)
-
Must make me a "loser" then! I took mine last time, sorry if it offended
-
Great news for the kids
-
Keith you are right as usual.. I am choked up over this .Especially Highlander donating his winnings . Absolutely fantastic so huge thanks to him and to all the people who participated in the competition. We are so very grateful as it will enable us to help even more children with health problems
-

It's a shame you feel uncomfortable about accepting your winnings. It shouldn't be that way as you have already kindly contributed by taking part so no obligation to donate again - although if someone posts an assumption that the winnings will be donated, it does put pressure on I guess.
-
Bluwise I do apologise if I suggested that there is an assumption that winnings will be donated. That is certainly not the case - it is entirely up to the individual. I am happy to pay out any winnings because people, like scott and yourself, are so generous towards the 3C's.
I also sincerely hope that the mis assumption does not deter people from participating in the future.
-
No H, not you at all. Nothing you said or posted suggested this in any way and my apologies if you thought that.
The effort you continually put in is awesome and of course entirely your (or anyone else's) choice to donate the winnings back.
It was another's post that read to me that they suspected you would give the winnings back….unfair pressure on you too in my opinion.
You have my utmost respect for the tireless effort you put in to raising money on here H - no matter how many times I have to read them to understand the process ;D :D
-
The winnings are winnings - winners can do whatever they like with them :)
-
Quite right. It's great to be a winner and if people want to take the money, why not? A lot of us donate it back, but that's a personal decision for each one of us and I would say there is no pressure to put it back. The people who support the competitions on this Forum have already donated to great causes as far as I can see and if they want to enjoy their winnings I see no problem.
-
Jacqui, I don't mean to be unkind but that's the sort of indirect pressure I mean….."a lot of us donate it back.."
I'm sure someone will tell me if I'm being too sensitive but I was touched by Scott and Lisa's post -
