On Monday morning I will do something that I have not done since 9th July 1973.
Guesses welcome.
NB the date is 1973 NOT 1985 ;)
-
You'll get your purse out John. ? ;)
-
You are not celebrating your 40th again are you John.
-
Shaving the beard off ??
-
Have a lie in you have retired?
-
You said on Thursday that Friday was a big day at work.....
So are you starting a new job?
-
I'm with Karaokemark - retired and the i-pad was a gift from your friends at work ? Either way enjoy the week :)
-
Are you going to offer someone your last Rolo ?
-
If the others are right and you have retired, have a long and Happy Retirement, lots of lie-ins, and have lots of fun playing with your mini (I-pad I mean)!! xx
-
bewva was correct - I start a new job on Monday. No chance of retiring I'm afraid as the pension is screwed.
Others were also correct in that the Ipad was a leaving gift.
I also received this card (from someone outside my company I should say)

Love that card - may have to steal it for a colleague…….it's so true too. Good Luck in your new job Highlander - hope the sh1t is minimal ;D
-
Wow John,a new start after a 40 year stint! As the saying goes you can't teach an old dog new tricks, the best of luck with your new job and your I pad ;) Remember to add at least a metre on your tape measure for your new company :D
G & I

Good luck John! Knock em dead!
-
Love the card. Good luck in the new job John.
-
I do hope the age old tradition of sending the new boy for a long weight and tartan paint is still observed.
Good luck with the new job H.
-
All the best H - I am sure you will soon start to enjoy new faces and new challenges.
-
New job after 40 years in the same place, that takes some courage! :o
Good luck and hope it all goes well for you, :)
-
What a coincidence Bluwise having a colleague with the same name as you H. :)
-
Best wishes 'H' :D :D :D
-
Good luck H, hope everything goes well for you :D
-
renew your marriage vows
-
Puma we've already guessed it :D
-
Thanks for all the good wishes. It is something I should have probably done some time ago but that was before the company pension got well and truly screwed.
Besides which 1. I feel less and less appreciated where I am, 2. the company is now far removed from the one that Bill Souter and Jim Jaffrey set up in 1951 and 3. my new employer has been asking to join his company for some considerable time. At my age, I am vain enough to take that as a compliment.
Thanks again
-
Wow that is excellent news - enjoy your new job John :)
-
trust me i must have blinked and missed the post haha
best wishesin your new job :)
-
Best wishes H - never easy to change - but good to get something new in your worklife to keep the (very) old brain cells active.
PS steal my avatar in case you ever need some tartan paint.
-
I must say it's very sad (and all too common) that loyalty is seen as a reason to take for granted. I saw it many times. How much will it cost to get a new Highlander, with 40 years experience and contacts? They probably won't and will settle for someone with less to offer and pay him more.
Their loss John - and from a company who didn't appreciate you to a company who have long admired you. Should be great times ahead.
-
Does this mean you wont be able able to post so often on this site during the day H or does your new contract allow for it? Just joking and good luck on your new adventure.
-
best wishes John .
-
Hope you've had a good day John. Having a new job you'll be able to recycle all your old jokes. Try that one about the word "gullible"!
-
Best of wishes, you are to be much admired X
-
I am curious at to what exactly you do John?
-
good luck
-
When you get home tell us all about your first day, tell Brenda later!! ;D
-
piscoe - many people have asked me that very question over the years :). But from Wikipedia - A quantity surveyor (QS) is a professional working within the construction industry concerned with construction costs and contracts.
echogirl1 - most of my first day, unsurprisingly perhaps, was spent getting to grips with modern technology (including Windows 8). Indeed, at one point. the photocopier very nearly got the "Nevada Su coffee machine" treatment and don't talk to me about an English (United States) keyboards
That having been said it was enjoyable as I knew it would be.
-
Yeah, but did any of the other kids try to nick yer dinner money ?

Is it true you are working specifically on rebuilding the old wall that Hadrian put up in readiness for independence ;)

It's quite simple once you get the hang of it

-
Yeah, yeah - I meant Windows 8.
-
I have huge admiration for you, John. Can't have been an easy decision to make after such a long time.
I do believe that we all have to swap the comfy armchair for the hard stool in life though. It's good to keep challenging yourself. Keeps you young.
Enjoy it, John, be yourself and they'll come to very much appreciate you.
-
no talk of hard stools please ;)
-
Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
-
Only just seen your post Menthol - thank you - that's very kind of you.
And Angela, coincidentally I was at the doctors yesterday :(
-
I saw that on FB John. Advice always available if need be.
