The saga continues. Meandering along today, we spotted an emlak/agent, in Fethiye, and just out of curiosity we thought we would pop in to see if they do rentals, which they do, and we have decided we want a sea view, and the lady said they have a place near the bp garage, so we went to have a look, three bed apt, front line sea views, cost 1250 tl, the only problem it won't be finished till March, which initially we thought isn't a problem, but they then asked for six months rent upfront from March, but then we started wondering, if we sign a contract now, which they want, along with a deposit, will it be ready, will we be tied into a contract and not have anywhere to live, will we have the place they promised, or will we end up forking out extra cash for the basics. So after a long debate we have decided to go in tomorrow and let them know we won't be going ahead with the contract, we may live to kick ourselves, but there are too many its and buts. But, at least we have established where we want to be, and want a sea view. So no doubt the hunt will continue in May. Xx

Nine years ago, we also wanted a Sea View We looked at a house with a private pool which was lovely and private with uninterrupted views of the mountains and farm land next to it, it was perfect, but no sea view. The Estate Agent told us everyone wants a sea view, he went on to say, he had never met any potential buyers who did not want a sea view and so, you must pay for it. He took us to a place with a sea view, view was lovely, it was on a large complex with neighbours on all sides and a shared pool, it was about £20,000 more that the house we had seen. We soon decided that we could live without the sea view.

That's a shame - we live about 800 yds past the garage which I use to fill up my little motorbike :-)
We have some friends who rented on a site just behind Kipa and they got a 6 month rental in October on a 3 bed duplex with a partial seaview - nice big pool and mixed owners - 50\50 split foreigners and locals - and they really love it there.
They say although it is a big site - about 40\50 apartments - they say it is very quiet and everyone is very helpful especially the security man - and they don't get taken in - so he must be helpful :-)
Although they did a "private" deal with an English owner - they only pay about 650 lira per month (£200 at the time so may be in sterling now!)
Might be worth walking around and seeing what is available by talking to the security man who is supposed to be very helpful - more like a caretaker and knows who / what is available on the site ?

If the property is not ready to rent until March you are right to walk away, if you are happy to pay 1250Tl per month then there are many many more properties out there for that money or less.

If there's someone you know and trust locally just give the deposit amount to them and tell the agent tomorrow that you have heard of missed completion dates locally and once the property is complete to drop you an email and your friend will be there with the deposit.

Thanks for the replies... Ian, we will do that, thanks for that bit of info, we are happy to pay that amount for the perfect place, we have been spoilt with sea/mountain and olive grove views for the past three years, where we live at the moment. We are coming back to Fethiye in May, though not going back to Akbuk just yet, but we will then look at complete builds, maybe the one we looked at will be ready to go and a complete build.... Keith, it did cross my mind to do as you suggested, but we were worried, if we sign the contract now, as they want, where do we stand legally if we withdraw because the build is delayed..??? We don't mind waiting, but we don't want to pay rent on something we can't live in... Must say, our heads are slightly battered. Xx

I think it is worth the extra for a sea view. And when you have sea and mountain views can't be beaten.

Sue, I think you're very wise not to rush into anything. Take your time and you will find what you want. Sea views are important to us too but that rent is pretty hefty - not too bad at the moment with the good exchange rate but if it drops back down to 2.5, it was as low as 2.11 a couple of years ago, then it is pretty expensive for Fethiye.
Also the cost of living is likely to soar, price increases are evident in the supermarkets now and it won't stop there.
Good luck - but be patient. What's for you won't go by you :)
