Presented myself at the railway station today.

"Club 55 return to Perth leaving 07:55 please"

"Sorry no"

"Why not"

"It's a different company"

We'll of course - how silly of me !!! -then........

"A single is £ 11:50 sir"

"Fine I'll take it -how much is the return"

£15:00 -oh hang on -you can go first class going down"

"How much"

"£ 12:00 and you get a free breakfast"

Unbelievable.

Yes but H you have not been clear as to whether you took the comforts and the breakfast of the first class travel, or whether as a canny Scotsman you saved yourself 50p and took the single journey, or the even more financially attractive £15 return?  I think we should be told.  ;)

I always found with the extensive rail travel I undertook across the country that you were always better to book online and in advance (if you can) to get the best prices.  Usually turning up at the booking office results in confusion and the most expensive prices.

I can,t believe my flight to manchester cost less than a ticket from Bham to Crewe. Rail fares on that route started at £7 one way when I moved there, and ended up £22.just in a few years.
So H did you go for breakfast or the return?

Went for the £ 12 first class going down and the £ 15 single going home.

First class was excellent with pots of coffee, orange juice, toast and a Great British breakfast which was not up to Eyna standards obviously but was not bad.

The £15 return may have been acceptable but I have no way of knowing telling because I missed the damned thing.

Am on the train home now £25.70 lighter than I should be. I trust my new employer will be understanding and more to the point generous.

Oh no, sods law that. Get a great saving and end up paying more. Had breakfast there on Sunday, couldn,t finish it.
