My daughter and I had a day out shopping yesterday and we could not believe our eyes when we saw a padded bra for sale in the children's clothing department. Age group for the bra from 4 years old!!! Why on earth would a 4 year old girl need a padded bra? In this day and age this is one piece of clothing that is not necessary :o >:(

I find that quite disturbing. Author Joanne Harris wrote a short story some years back that focused on sexualising young children - now it seems fiction is becoming reality. >:(
It's a far cry from my youth - I needed to start wearing a bra in primary school and was the only girl who did. It was far more a cause for embarrassment than celebration at that time.

That's one hell of an age range, 4 - 12??? Also very worrying if anyone actually would consider a purchase.

It's an American Brand. My daughter had such a response on Facebook about this. A newspaper has been in touch with her and are possibly going to run the story. They rang the shop which is Original Bargain Warehouse which has branches throughout the country. The shop told the newspaper that it was a labelling mistake. However, there is no way this was a labelling mistake as the bra was tiny, as you can see from the image and my daughter's hand

One of the things I have worries about over the last ten to fifteen years has been the increasing sexualisation of our children. You see it more and more I'm afraid, and I do not like it one little bit. The years of childhood are few, and they should be ones in which children maintain an innocence of things adult, they do not need to copy adults or more particularly worry about adult things.
I was at a family party a couple of years back, and one of the girls there, who was 11, was dressed up like she was 19 in mini dress, high heels, thick in make up. Some people were saying how wonderful she looked, and you should have seen the looks I got when I expressed the opposite view and the dangers of sexualisation of our children, you'd think I was from another planet. :( :(

American Brand ?? Says it all really !! Probably promoted by & aimed at, the same brand of sick, sad parents who insist on shoving their tiny children into the disgusting world of "Pageants". These sickening displays were once confined to those brainless twats on the other side of the Atlantic, but are becoming, sadly, more prevalent over here !! >:( >:( >:( >:(

Thank you once again, Jacqui, BUT, we have NEVER eaten the beautiful food that is haggis, :P from a tin !! We always have the beastie straight from the sheeps pluck !! Yummy !! :P

It seems to me to be very difficult to differentiate between the sexualisation of young children (as with the bras for 4 yr olds) and the world as it used to be when every little girl used to love to dress up in mums clothes and high heels, with a smear of red lipstick (or a red smartie). I have no problem with the dressing-up issue, but bras for 4 year olds is outrageous.

I really think there is a big difference in dressing up in Mum's clothes to play and letting little girls wear things like Playboy logos as Menthol mentioned. I also find the dancing or "Twerking" offensive and embarrassing and am horrified if my grand-daughters start innocently copying from the TV.
Some parents dress their girls in such a way that they look like little tarts…..who do they think they are impressing or attracting attention from?!?

Update to this story. After being contacted by the Daily Record, the bras have all been withdrawn from sale.
This is the article in the newspaper (online version) today. A great result. Leah and I are pleased it has been taken off the shelves of 180 shops.

thank heavens for common sense, I agree with Bluwise, I cannot stand the likes of Miley Cyrus and her ridiculous twerking, as she was a young girls hero not that long ago as the wholesome Hannah Montana, and all those young fans will now copy her new persona, which I'm sure is what she relies on to make more money out of them. Let kids be kids for as long as possible, and yes I agree on these pageants, tiny tots wearing make up and revealing outfits are surely paedophile heaven, so very wrong >:( >:(

Well done to bring it to the attention of the rest of the public jacqui..children just arent allowed to be children for very long anymore. What they are exposed to on a daily basis, both in and out of school and even nursery for that matter makes me so worried for my grandchildren.
