Title: Mattress toppers
Post by: sadler on March 01, 2014, 17:17:21 PM
Hi.  Are mattress toppers available in Calis/Fethiye, or failing that, are memory foam mattresses available in any of the furniture shops.  My poor bones really complain after a day lying on a sun bed, then a night on the "supportive"/hard mattress on my bed.  Thanks ;D

You can get memory foam mattresses in Fethiye, we got ours from Eren Spot just over from the Tuesday market.

Just bought one from Saffet at Ovacik and about to try it out for the first time tonight. He orders them in in the size you want and it is  about 4 inches thick - will let you know that how we get on with it.

I effing hate our Tempur memory foam mattress and would never recommend them to anyone. Cost a small bloody fortune, the company doesn't have a return policy (welcome to Turkey) so certainly don't buy online if you insist on going down this route.

Clearly I am like the princess and pea because only I alone could tell that that there are huge blooming crevices and pot holes on the mattress that retain the memory of a previous sleep nights indefinitely so you feel that every nights sleep is like a balancing act and a slight move in the wrong direction will send you toppling over the edge into oblivion.

Seriously a bog standard mattress at a fraction of the price will serve you very well and if it doesn't it won't have cost you the earth if you feel the need to buy a replacement.

Memory foam is definitely Marmite.

I also can't get on with it. Even in pillow form. £40 for one pillow that feels like you're resting your head on a housebrick  :-[

We had our beds from Bekir at Eren and the mattresses are marked red and blue.
Red side is warm for winter and blue side is cool for summer. Very comfortable and
very good value for money. The pillows are good too. Iv'e never tried toppers.

I looked at this mattress at Erin Spot last year with the red and blue side, tried it in the shop and had to say it was very comfortable, and a very good price, would have bought one but they didn't have in stock and we were returning to the UK before Bekir could get one,so he said email me before we come out this year and he'll have one in stock for us,so looking forward to a good nights sleep ,when we return to Calis.

What sort of price roughly please does anyone know for a double "red and blue" mattress?
I found your post about memory foam mattress's very interesting Nichola we have had a memory foam mattress here in the uk for two years and never again...Hubby is fine but if I stay in it too long particularly whilst laying on my left side with my laptop the aches in my leg are just awful...It may not be the mattress but if I stand up for a while it goes away...

Like you Aisha I can't get on with memory foam pillows so won't be trying the mattress.  Don't know if you get hand made pocket sprung mattresses in Turkey but they are definitely our choice in the UK.

I don't "get" mattress toppers. If you buy a really good, or the best you can afford mattress, there is no need for a topper.   Also for Winter bigger duvet, or more blankets, for Summer, light duvet or no duvet and just a cover.  I can't see how a mattress that turns over would work with the temperature.

We have a memory foam mattress and it took an awfully long time to get used to it.  Couldn't be doing with the pillows either, have to agree like trying to sleep on a doorstep, horrible, they went to the charity shop after only 2 nights.  We did though buy a mattress for our spare room and that keeps you cool when it is hot and at a normal temperature  no matter how hot you get - great for friends who are having 'flushes', in fact one friend says she has had the best nights sleep ever when she has stayed. So don't know if they are available in Turkey at present, but I'm sure the Rimms can recommend them as they slept on ours for nearly 3 weeks last month when they were home.

We've used memory foam mattress Toppers for over 8 years now and also the pillows. I had had many years of shoulder and neck pain until I used them and now enjoy a lovely nights sleep.
When we are travelling I suffer in most beds and find the pillows far too soft and my old pains start again.
Took a while to get used to them, especially the pillows, but now wouldn't sleep on anything else.

Karennina.

I can't remember the prices as it was six or seven years ago but it was far far cheaper than the UK.
We had five lift-up beds with those mattresses and pillows plus a lot of other stuff and Bekir gave
us some items free for buying quantity. It was all delivered two hours after we bought it,carried in,
unwrapped/assembled and all cardboard and plastic taken away by two friendly guys.
Try and get that service in the UK.   Bekir at Eren Spot for good service.

Their web site,  www.erenspot.com has about thirty five mattresses showing or E mail Bekir.

Thank you for all your replies.  We do have memory foam here in the U.K., but it is only on one side, (when trying the Tempera ones, we felt that we were falling off the edge).  The underside is sprung.  It is so comfortable, I have trouble getting up in the morning, and no aches or pains either.  Like many of you, I found that the pillows were terrible!  We got ours free with the mattress, but they very quickly went to the charity shop.  Will give the ones in Erin Spot a look, although that is where we got the originals.  Must say that we did originally furnish to let, which we never did, so our next shopping expedition will be to suit only ourselves!  :D

I would like someone to explain how a mattress can make you feel cool or hot??  The only ones I see on the net have electric circuits which cool or heat a bed.
I would also say, if buying a mattress i would go to a shop that specialises in bedding and not a general furniture shop.  We bought our original beds from Eren Spot  (I know how to spell it now as my Granddaughter is Erin)
and the mattresses were very hard.  We did not have them for long.

I think I would have to agree Jacqui. I was fortunate to inherit my dear late mothers bed last year and slept in it until we came out in january. She would never have anything cheap,or not from the proper place ' it,s false economy'  she used to say. I have never slept in anything so comfortable ever. Now my daughter has it, and says the same of it. Sometimes its worth shelling out for a good nights sleep. Here,s the youngest Grandaughter Drew, enjoying the comfort of it too!

Must say I didn't expect a topic on mattress toppers to run into 3 pages.  Despite the arguments for and against. I must say I had a really good nights sleep last night.  It was really comfortable and cosy and with a 13.5 tog feather duvet, it was like being in a nest!. Whether or not it will be too warm in Summer (the topper not the duvet that is  - we do go down to a sheet in summer like everyone else), I don't know, will find that out then but for the time being I am glad we bought the memory foam topper.

Lovely picture Silkmrs.   We have not used a duvet for years now, just have a fitted cover on the top of the bed. Our house in Scotland is well insulated and very warm, we would melt with a duvet on the bed.
