In April it is likely there will be some Mosquitos and it is a good idea to be prepared for this.

April weather can be a little unpredictable but if the sun is shining it will be warm enough in the day but expect for the temperature to drop in the evenings. There is the chill factor of the daytime breeze you get in Çaliş pleasant enough in the height of the season but may take the edge of the warmth early season.

The last couple of years it has been much warmer in the evenings at the beginning and end of season but cool or cold is the norm.

Avon 'Skin so Soft' is very good and smells nice or alternatively anything with Deet in it.  :)

Sinkov is readily available everywhere in Turkey, and is a liquid application which keeps the little  "barstewards" away, Not natural, but I don't know if there is a natural deterrent or not. I do know for a fact, that if one is allergic to the mozzy, just one bite can totally bollox one's entire holiday !!

Addendum to above; When we lived full-time in Turkey, we had many visits from our very good friend (15 visits in 6 years !), I would get quite a few bites, as did my Darling Loz, but Paul NEVER, EVER got bitten once !! The only thing we could put it down to was the fact that Paul used Listerine Mouthwash very liberally, and we did not !! As the little darlings are attracted to their "prey" by carbon Dioxide from our breath, maybe that was the reason. Just saying, like.

You would think farts would make a great "natural deterrent". As I only ever got bitten at the top of my ar5e, I can confirm this is not the case.

The only natural one I've seen used is the lemon oil that many of our Turksih friends use. It's widely available in the shops. I've tried it and it's no good for me. Deet is about the only thing that stops them biting me. However I also take a spoonful of marmite for a couple of weeks before we go, drink plenty of Efes and it seems to help  :)

What are these plants? we go to this garden centre!
If you dont know there name a description.
Last year outr Turkish neighbours had a row of small leaf plant on their balcony.
Someone told me they were there to keep mossies away?
Will try anything new as they love me and sometimes I react badly.
Already take Vit B1 constantly even when out and have tried the marmite stuff.
Sprays and wipes seem to attract them to me.

Most Turkish gardens have these plants, a lot are in pots on the patio.  If you rub the leaves they give off a smell. Sounds like your neighbour has them too.   The garden centres  have them. I have also seen them in Migros and some restaurants have them.  We have them in our garden, but unless your garden was packed out with them I cannot see them stopping the odd mozzie biting you.
Boots are now selling a Natrual Citrepel Insect repellent lotion.  All made from natural sources.  I have bought some to try. The insect repellents in Boots are on special offer three for two.

I was told by Turkish jewellers that these little plants are baby basil, they have them dotted around outside Telmessis Gold Jewellerers in Fethiye where the guys sit around outside waiting for custom. I used to put them on our balcony too.   :)

The plants are sweet basil and have tiny white flowers.  You can rub the leaves very gently on your skin.  I have a Turkish friend who is a mine of info. when it comes to natural remedies and whatever she has ever told me has worked.

I can probably saved a university hundreds of thousand in research if they listen to me as I have discovered the little blighters cannot detect White coming from behind them. You know how when you spot one on the wall and you creep stealthily towards it and it flies off just as you are about to strike.....well if you use a white cloth or kitchen roll they stay still as it seems they just cannot detect it . I have caught dozens really easily like this so give it a try. No good of course if they decide to take a nibble in the night while you are asleep . Basil is supposed to help and the Turkish people do seem to believe in it as it is often found on balconies or near doorways . I used to get bitten quite often when I first moved here but think my blood must be past its best now as they don't bother any more .
