I was telling the girls about a guy who moved to Calis, and I wondered what happened to them. His name was Shaun "out of" Shaun and Sharon as I recall. She was very fit (in all ways :D ) and he was a great big guy, very strong looking. If you knew them you might remember Shaun had to carry a rucksack around whenever they were out. It was full of banana sandwiches. He couldn't walk too far without needing food so had to carry supplies. He wasn't fat, overweight or anything like that, just a metabolism thing. They moved over in around 2005 but were gone by 2006.
My girls think I make these stories up...
And there was another couple, the names escape me - middle aged, both 3 letter names like Roy and Jan, but probably not Roy and Jan, used to cycle absolutely everywhere. Anyone remember them? And Steve and Sue, used to live near the Devlet Hospital. He was from Merseyside.
So many people in the early days who just slipped off the scene :)

Steve and Sue moved back to the UK a few years ago now..we hadn't seen them for a couple of years and then they turned up at mine and Barrie's leaving do... One of the funniest men we ever knew.. We were over the moon that we got to say goodbye properly..
-
Steve was fantastic - great company, quietly funny and never ever involved himself in the expat back stabbing pastime. Sue was lovely too, made a mean chocolate cake and could gab a bit too (meant with fondness not criticism!).

I don't know any of these folk but I love hearing about people/times gone by in Calis I sooo wish we had found it sooner as it sounds more like the place that I did love not sure how I feel about it at the mo ;)

Another lot just popped into my head - does anyone remember the two couples who opened a fish and chip shop - somewhere between where the Calis change shop is in the direction of the dolphin roundabout? Both British couples, I think maybe two sisters and their husbands - it lasted literally weeks, the two men just could not work together - you'd be eating your fish & chips and they would be rowing furiously, shouting from start to finish!!
-
'Fish, chips and a row please'.
Sounds ace. ;D

What about the English guy who used to have the sausage and burger place at the back of the hospital. His stuff was lovely. I remember when he came off his bike and broke his arm. He was a really nice guy, anyone still in touch with him?
-
Still in touch with him? Here we are on holiday with him 8)

That was just last year in Marrakech. They are long back in the UK having been finally crushed by made up rules and regulations (and certificates costing fortunes that only seem to be necessary if you aren't Turkish) - living in Kent now.
Steve's wifey is CBF's Scareylady (Lesley) who is still a regular visitor to CBF (and to Scotland to drink all our wine).

Good to hear about him. it was a shame the way he was treated by the authorities, I remember reading about it all at the time. Never found any sausages or burgers as good as his over in Calis.
Wish him all the best from us and tell him we miss him.

Keith you are standing like you have been sat on a horse for a week. ;)
-
Camel maybe??? ;D
-
Yes, yes
The people who complain about being 'hassled' as they walk down Calis prom should spend a couple of hours in that square....
-
Yes Bewva lol, my first thought was - did he realise he'd lost his horse! ;) ;D ;D
-
The hell he has

It's Scunner pulling his "crush a 42inch flat screen plasma TV down into a Tablet " routine to amuse the natives.I saw him do it blindfolded once.
The native behind him looks very animated. :)

It is a combination of holiday high jinx and tomfoolery, fueled by a touch of shenanigans.
