Title: Car Hire (Again)
Post by: engineerdave on March 19, 2014, 17:22:49 PM
I know there has been a lot on car hire on here but I would still like to ask this question to those that
hire cars on a regular basis. Is this a good quote in your view or can I do better and if so with who?

The quote is for 12 days. 1/9/14  to 12/9/14. The car is Renaullt Clio or similar diesel. All inclusive insurances. Collect car with 1/4 tank of fuel and return with same. This is the email quote.

Fiat Albea,Renault Clio or similar diesel car on September for 12 days £ 231 including insurance, excluding the optional insurance on headlight, tyres and windscreen which is £ 36 for 12 days.Total is £ 267.
But we offer you for 12 days £ 246 all insurance are inclusive.

Be very grateful for your opinions on this quote.

We have hired cars for nine years now, a couple of times per year, usually a period of 5 weeks in total.  When we first started to hire, We used a few companies and we got some right old bangers, that were extremely tatty and with no power.  We also had breakdowns.  However, six years ago we started hiring from one company and have used them ever since, we get a new car in excellent clean condition, with a bit of power, it does not break down.  We have received excellent service from this company.  In our opinion the cheapest is not always the best.  We want no hassle when we are on holiday so always use Fethiye Lovers. We are also happy that they are based in Calis.

Dave,

I would say that price is about right.

I would say £20-£25 per day - and nearer to £20 for more than a weeks hire.

Dave, those figures are about average. Just bear in mind that you'll have other lower offers but cheapest is rarely best.

I always hire from a place in Calis.   Off Baris Manco Blv. Just before you get to beach on main entrance.  Restaurant on the corner called Ali's Bar and Restaurant. At the bottom of that street ( its only 50 mtrs long ) was a night club called Scarlets, so you could ask for that.  In the middle of that street is an internet cafe and care hire. The guys name is Araya.  Speaks good English and they are a fantastic family to deal with.  He will look after you and their cars are usually one to three year old. No probs with these boys. I had a small accident and they sorted it for me. Dealt with the police and  insurance for me. ( It was my fault) I did nothing other than have to thank him for his work .  Didn't cost me a penny?... Have used them for  four years , twice a year, scooter and car hire  and nobody can match their price.  I have a number and it would help to "name drop".   So if you want cheap, peace of mind and great personal service ( he will bring it to you and come back for it if you wish) let me know. ............ PS, I don't get anything for this. :-).  I just think they are great to deal with and I like to throw business their way cause they deserve it.

You should get a car for around twenty a day that's usually for a petrol car, so I would say that's not bad for a diesel

I have hired cars in Calis very regularly over the past 5 years and that looks pretty good, I have just been quoted at £20 per day all inclusive same as you and £26 for a Renualt Fluence Diesel, I will email the quote copy.

Thanks so much for all the replies and advice. Its always best to get advice from those that do know I say and I have got that so again Thanks.

John,.Your quote was almost identical to mine lol. Maybe that's because mine was also from  Fethiye Rent A Car Company. I will now most certainly use them. I did recieve cheaper but there were too many addons for my liking. I also received a lot more expensive to. The reason we want the car is because we plan to drive from Calis to Marmaris. Stay one night then go on to Pamukkale and Ephesus and stay for one night.
Then on to Kusadasi again for one night. Then back to Calis.I know its a lot of driving but I'm looking forward to it. I am just wondering though is it possible to see Pamukkale and Ephesus in one day.Your advice would be welcome on that. Also would it be worth using a satnav for this journey. I have a Windows phone with HereDrive navigation on it. I can download the Turkey map to put on it. Will it be advisable to do so and more importantly worth it. I do have 2 very good maps to take with us as well.

I wouldn't fancy doing Ephesus & Pamukkale on the same day, even in September, when it should be a bit cooler. There's a lot of walking at Ephesus, if you want to see it all, & why wouldn't you when you've made the effort to get there.

I went by coach, many moons ago & seem to remember it was IRO 3/4 hours between the two.

Liz is correct it is a long way from  Pamukkale to Ephesus.  We did Pamukkale from Kuşadası and it was a very long day - left a seven in the morning and didn't get back 'til late at night. However, Ephesus is only 17 Kilometres from Kuşadası so you could tie it in with you Kuşadası visit.

Pamukkale was so good, we went intending to do a day trip from Calis, but spent so long there looking at the "cotton candy", the ancient city and swimming in the Roman swimming pool etc, we ended up staying overnight and driving back the next day.

So i would agree , if you want to explore them properly, there is no chance of doing that and Ephesus in a day.

Once again Thanks for all your advice. And on that advice we are now going to stay for 2 nights at Kusadasi so we can spend as much time at Ephesus as we want. Not only that we will be able to explore a lot more of the region.
Going back to my question about satnavs. Has anyone used them over in Turkey and if so was it any help.
Thanks.

Well Dave,  when training I used to tell people that last month I couldn't spell ingeneer, now I are one!  :)

Seriously sounds a great trip but Marmaris isn't far, terribly overcrowded and having driven there once I vowed I would never do it again! Poorly signed and everyone in a hurry, been there 10 minutes before someone ran into me, maybe there are better overnight stops en route? I plan that trip myself if my foot is better, hate getting old!

Traveling in Turkey is fun, frustrating, safe, dangerous, easy, difficult, all of those things but I love it. Last year we drove from Fethiye to Goreme (one day -- all day, about 11 with a short few stops!) to see Cappadocia and stayed 4 nights taking in everything from the Underground City to the Hot air balloon trip over the valley. Amazing, absolutely one of best trips of my life. I so hope you enjoy it.

But, you have lovely places nearby as well! If you haven't done it the drive out to Kalkan, Kas and on to Kekova lovely, trip up the mountains if feeling brave, the round trip through the orchards, all doable in a day (not same day  :) ) If you haven't been to Patara or Itsuzu beaches fantastic, and of course Tlos and Sakhlikent all not far.

Do be aware that engines on cars in turkey a bit small and underpowered, even the diesels, so, if you are going a long way, the extra cash may be worth it. 2 years ago I tried to drive somewhere and the car just would not go up the track over the mountain and I had to give it up! That is why I went for the Renault Fluence  for my Cappadocia trip. this isn't my trip, I saw no reason to put anything on as Colwyn had done such a great job, and I almost followed his itinerary http://www.calis-beach.co.uk/forum/places_visit/a_trip_kapadokya_24850.0.html

I would recommend Orange Car Hire, really competitive prices and excellent customer service, used them for the last 3 years without a hitch. There is another post on the Forum that quotes from £10 a day via Pegasus, you might want to check them out as well.

I have checked out Pegasus, they are 25% cheaper than most, I might try them unless anyone has a horror stories of course.   ;)

I've always used Pegasus and found them pretty good. The £10 per day rate is their winter special, I'm afraid you won't see that rate during the summer.

Used a TomTom door-to-door Wrexham to Kayakoy. Spot-on with every turn and most speed cameras.

I have always found that the really great deals don't include a diesel, (petrol very expensive) and also
don't cover headlamp. windscreen and tyres or underside and that can be a very expensive shortfall!

Satnav no idea, but, its as good as the map it works with in most cases.

Spoiled nowadays, got pictures of me in the Desert with a compass and sextant somewhere  :)
