The annual Fethiye Festival of World Music will be taking place again this year 8 - 11th May - pick up a leaflet for the programme of this and other events taking place at the Mozaik Bahçe - only available in Turkish at the moment.
If its half as good as last year it will be well worth attending - here are some of my images from last year

Brilliant! I was so disappointed I couldn't go last year. You can't beat live music :)
-
This ends the day before my boys get here :-\ they are arriving a week later than planned because of 2 gigs they are playing back in the Uk. They would have loved this.
I will be there though :)

More information from Fethiye Times on the International Culture and Arts Festival starting this week.
Seems there is already something going on in the square
http://www.fethiyetimes.com/news/44-news/11263-preparations-underway-fethiye-festival-week.html
Here is another English version of the programme
http://www.fethiyetimes.com/news/10906-fethiye-7th-international-culture-arts-festival-programme-2.html
I have been "promised" a schedule of the line up for who is performing, when and where for the world music evenings when it is ready as there are apparently going to be some sunset performances in Çaliş and Ölüdeniz (and Goçek too I think).
This year performances allegedly start at 7pm, earlier than last year.
If and when I hear more I will update here :)

Wednesday May 7th
4pm FESTIVAL PARADE will start at Tuesday Market, pass through Gaffar Okan Str., Atatürk Str., Çarşı Str., Hükümet Str. and will end in Beşkaza Square.
The awards ceremony for dance and best costumes starts at 5.30pm and the opening ceremony at 6pm - all in the public square.
7pm CELEBRATION OF 81th ANNIVERSARY OF FETHIYESPOR CLUB will be held at Beşkaza square. Turkish local musicians Adem Kazan, Ahmet Eraslan, F-Dance Group will take scene along with musicians from Kazakistan, Kenya, Iran and USA.
I am adding this here so it doesn't get separated on the next page and getting this info is like being on the receiving end of extracting teeth so I hope that I'm not posting for the benefit of myself!
"Evening Corcerts are in BESKAZA SQUARE as last year. All program on www.fethiyefestival.com - except it doesn't include the line up of who is performing and when.
Concerts starts at 19.30 with dance shows. World Music Concerts start half an hour later. Scott Jeffers and TRAVELER will be on the stage at 7th May 22.00
Scott Jeffers Traveler and The BAND TRAVELER will be on the BESKAZA SQUARE main stage two more nights including 11th MAY closing night."

I have added some new information in the post above. The main extra item is that Scott Jeffers who was a HUGE hit last year will perform on the night before the World Music Festival is alleged to begin, in fact quite a lot is happening that evening without as yet getting the promotion it deserves.
I still hope to get the line up information and if I do will share.

We are over at the moment and really looking forward to this music festival. Thanks for all the info Nichola, just hope the weather improves :)

I know its a real shame. But Wednesday evening should be good and the forecast at the moment for that is good. I'll be down there from about 5-5.30ish and then on and off until Scott has been on at ten.
Come and say hello, I will be hanging around the stage :)

Lots of references to photography :) Does anyone know who The English Photography Club are?
-
It's the detail that's missing for me in the "program" concerning the line up for the evening performances. I'm planning to go every night but not everyone will want to. And, then what if the one "music group" is one that you actually do want to see but you're stood like a plank in Fethiye square! ???
Latest update re sunset performances
8, 9, 10, 11 MAY 19:30 ÇALIŞ, ÖLÜDENiZ, GÖCEK
Festivale katılan gruplardan birer grup havanın müsait oluşuna göre 8, 9, 10 ve 11 Mayıs günleri Çalış, Ölüdeniz ve Göcek'te GÜNBATIMI konserleri verecekler.
One music group will have SUNSET CONCERTS in Çalış beach, Ölüdeniz Fethiye and Göcek on the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th of May depending on rain conditions.

Lots of references to photography :) Does anyone know who The English Photography Club are?
As I know they are connected to the Turkish Photography club that used to/still does meet in the culture centre on Wednesdays I think. But then maybe not.
-
I have received a message from one of the organisers re my latest request for information on the nightly line ups and it is as follows.
"It is really very difficult to manage which and when. Some of the groups told us they will be coming only yesterday and some confirmed they will be here the day before. As soon as I get hold of any news I'll let you know".
-
To be fair, and in my considerable experience, that sounds exactly like musicians.
I used to veer from wanting to smack their arses in sound check to kissing their faces after they'd played.
-
Unless it rains Scott Jeffers and Traveler will perform at sunset (7.30pm) on Çaliş Beach Thursday 8th May.
Has anyone seen a stage there and if so where? And dare I ask if it's likely to be clean or will I need protective footwear ;)
-
At the beach now no sign of a stage
-
I've asked the question of the organisers - will let you know if I get an answer. Do you think it may be where they hold the volley ball thingy, where ever that is?
-
Asked at one of the bars and the waiter had no idea what I was talking about
-
Message just received.
Sunset concerts cancelled because of the weather - sorry :(
-
Tonight, Sunday is the last night of the world music festival and with any luck the weather will hold and the performances will be on the outside stage although the culture centre provided a more intimate environment for the event.
There is an excellent line up with what promise to be continued fantastic performances including AkashA from Malaysia, Scott Jeffers and Traveler and musicians from Iran. All performers will do a set each for the last night.
In the public square itself there are tents that house photographic exhibitions, stalls selling hand crafts and even a place selling delicious Künife. A much better set up than last year.
It's free to attend and it would be great to see a good turnout for the last night.

This has been such an amazing festival, thanks to the choice of amazing acts who have all given their time freely to come and play for us. I for one cannot wait to go and see the final night. Thanks to Fethiye who have arranged this superb event, and to all the artists who have made it so special this year. :)
