Title: transit passengers and duty free
Post by: mercury on March 26, 2014, 09:21:11 AM
If we are flying from The UK to Antalya. stopping at Istanbul with Turkish airlines... can we buy duty free at manchester and then take it on board our new plane?  Not sure about the procedure as a transit passenger..

No problem but make sure that they put a security seal your duty free purchases at Manchester. You will then be allowed to take them on to your ongoing flight.

Did not work for us when returning from New York to Heathrow with duty free, fully sealed in a bag with a customs tag.  We were taking a flight on to Aberdeen and never left security, but we were refused to take the bag onto a domestic flight.  After a long argument it was put in the hold and of course, both bottles were broken in transit.

If, as Philrose said, you have it sealed at point of departure in U.K. and have the Duty Free receipt to show in Turkey, there should be no problem whatsoever.
You are welcome. (Pre-emptive)   ;)

The rules regarding liquids changed last year some time I think.  This is from THY's site:

"On connecting flights from within the European Union or the USA, duty-free products purchased at the original point of departure (in excess of 100ml) will not be accepted as cabin baggage, even in their sealed bags."

Wasn't suggesting you were wrong, just pointing out the rule change which, as its TR, may be implemented at some airports and not at others - in fact, it may be different from gate to gate.

In my experience, EU countries will only let you carry through liquids that were duty free sealed by other EU countries.

Eg in one case, duty free sealed in Tunisia was not allowed on a connecting flight at Paris.

As Turkey is (last time I checked) not in the EU, they may have different rules regarding who they "trust" to seal the duty free bags.

So I think that means everyone here is right !

We are flying out with PGS via S Gokcen in a few weeks and as we haven't done this route for a couple years were wondering what's the latest re: UK purchased duty free and departures from S.Gokcen. We don't have cases so won't use the International Terminal at DLM.

You will be using the International Terminal as there is no customs at domestic. You land at Domestic and are bussed over to International. On the plus side you can purchase your duty frees there  :)

Thanks Philrose, as we have no cases and went through passport control at SAW, I recall that last time we walked straight through and out of the domestic terminal, but maybe that was because we avoided the official with the clipboard!
