Title: Fire in Calis
Post by: Susiepink on March 27, 2014, 04:52:15 AM
I watched a serious fire yesterday in Calis, in the building to the left of BIM, just up from the beach. I have been trying to find some local news to find out if anyone was hurt, or died in the fire (just because I'm nosy) does anyone know the best way to find up to date local news? I'm sure it will find its way into Land of Lights, but I thought there must be a way of finding news quicker than that. The fire brigade were a farce, it was like watching Keystone Cops, and worrying too. I'm sure they were doing their best, but no uniforms, you couldn't tell who was fire brigade and who wasn't, only one guy with breathing apparatus, but there were 3 apartments on fire. No communication between any of them other than shout very loudly up at the windows to the apartment he was in, they were slow  it seemed like forever from the first old rust bucket of a fire engine turning up, to two other only slightly more modern turning up to assist. There was a huge crowd gathered, (me included) all of us close to the building amongst the police, fire brigade and medics, no one telling the crowd to get back out of the way. I've never witnessed such chaos in what was actually a very serious situation, it was a joke, and not in any way do I mean funny.

Passed the dialysis clinic this morning no apparent external damage, apart from all the doors and windows being open and the smell of smoke it was pretty much business as usual...

By your own admission, you got in the way of a fire rescue, by getting too close to the building amongst police, fire brigade, and rescuers, just because you were nosey !!
How would you feel if your self-confessed nosiness had resulted in the death or serious injury of someone involved? And did you stop to think that the reason for firemen being without uniforms, was simply because of the speed with which they answered the call ?? No, you most probably did not , ask yourself if you would have done the same in the U.K., mind, with your nosiness, you probably would have !!

Not really sadler, I always get out of the bottom of the bed, at least then I don't have an excuse for being an irascible, crabbit auld feckin' curmudgeon. Harsh, not so, but if I have offended anyone by my post, apologies, it's just the type of person I am. Efes anyone ??

Well, my reason for posting was "where does one find up to date news in this area". I then went on to explain why, and yes I did join the back of a gawping crowd who were watching the proceedings, as I think anyone would have, we're all human. Except for you Gordon, you would have probably moved back to a safe distance, as if one person doing so would have made that much difference. I must apologise for my curiosity as to regards if there was anyone seriously injured in that fire. The fact that I called myself nosey in a self deprecating fashion was merely to lighten the post! I certainly didn't expect to be shot down in flames by some pompous prat on here, who obviously loves to miss the point and then go on to  criticise others, very rude

Yes, very rude.
John saw the plumes of smoke and went to investigate. I was terrified as he wasn't back for ages, last week he came home covered in blood after helping a car accident victim, and when he didn't return for a while I had visions of him diving into burning buildings.
Yes, you lightened it by saying you were being nosy, I said to John he was nosy, but he said yes, partly to see what was going on, but also to see if anything was needed, being the dialysis centre made it even more concerning.
We were actually very surprised how quickly they had it under control.
The fire engines are very old. Definitely look like they should be replaced!

If any of you people had ever had the fantastic pleasure to ever have been in my most illustrious company, I am sure that ALL of you would declare that I am the least pompous person in the world. Perhaps one of the most handsome, clever, helpful, modest people that it is possible to meet, but pompous, who Sir ?, me Sir, No Sir, how dare you, how VERY dare you .
I have apologised, what else do you want, blood, my wisdom teeth ??
