Thinking of doing this trip start of July, does anybody know if you can do 3 days or is it just an overnight
stay, also do you have a choice of hotels eg 4* or above, want to go on an organized trip rather than driving ourself's and lastly which company would you recommend to book with. Thanks.

Done the overnight trip to Ephesus and Pamukalee twice and stayed at two different hotels there is a lot of travelling involved but I would highly recommend the trip . My husband and I thoughrly enjoyed it both times and it is very good value for money.

All I would say is that it's a bloody long way.

Hi Buzz58, i did this trip April 2007 when i worked for Thomson, stayed the one night, had a fantastic time, well worth it. At the time Thomson were charging approx £99, the bucket shops were charging approx £50. Thomson offer all UK guests and English speaking guides, insured against cancellation and guaranteed good quality hotels. The choice is up to the individual really. I am definately going to do this trip again this Summer.

That was meant to be 2011 not 2007 !!

We've done this trip twice now. Both through organised tours, wouldn't really want to do it any other way to be honest. Can't help with the names of the tour operators we used unfortunately but they were both local ones.
A Highlander says it is a bloody long way, but we've enjoyed both times we've done it. It's a very early start to the first day and you get back early evening on the second. Hotels and all the places we've stopped at for meals have been good, certainly no complaints from us for what we paid.
Take care in Ephesus in July, it will be hot! Make sure you have sun hats and plenty of water with you.
Enjoy it!

Typical of Thomson's twice as dear as the local tour operators, unfortunately you are not giving this advice to holidaymakers but to homeowners!!

I would like to correct you there. Not everyone on this Forum is a home owner. There are a lot of holidaymakers who return to Calis year after year. There are also new members who come to glean information about Calis.

Reading your post, it sounds as though you don't care whether the large holiday companies rip their customers off with their expensive trips, which are no different from the ones that you can book locally in Calis. I would have thought that you would want people to buy their trips locally, thereby putting the money into local businessess.

Here we go again. >:( One person explaining their experience (Okay while she worked - in the past tense- for Thomson) and some one else coming straight on to lambaste them! ??? I don't think daffodillys was trying to sell a trip! Confucius says "When you have nothing to say, say nothing" :-X

Thanks for all your reply's,we will be doing the trip , we only use local company's,have found a local tour company which looks to be just what we require, wanted to use some one that hadn't been involved with dolphin swims in the past ,looking forward to the long journey ,i quite like being on the bus and seeing new areas,my sister lives in Side for her sins and i'll never forget the heat that hit me the first time i arrived in Antalya bus station ,i thought i was in an oven ,so there will be plenty of sun cream lots of water plus my hat.

im sorry if my post has upset some members but i was asked for my personal experience and the name of tour operator used. I tried to explain the reasons that Thomson gave for charging the extra amount, i wasn't recommending any one to use them. After working in the travel industry for many years i have heard good and bad reviews about the big tour operators and the local operators, i did state that it is entirely up to the individual. I was trying to give a balanced view to the person that asked the question.

I think most of us got that, but thanks for reiterating for the others ;)

You did good Daffodillys, you did good.

Large tour operators include all entrance fees, Hb accommodation overnight in a guaranteed good hotel, and a good, English speaking guide. Not sure if all street sellers include these. All tours visit the usual carpet outlet but some of the treet agencies take clients to many other shopping outlets. Some people also feel happier booking excursions with their own tour operator, nobody forces them to. Most people would see street agency prices and make up their own mind. Also all overseas tour operators have to either own their own Turkish incoming agency or use another Turkish owned one. These agencies are responsible for transfers and excursions and are, local businesses.

We are doing this trip when we come over but by hire car. We did look at the organised trips and the best one we found were these http://www.caroletayfun.com/ (http://www.caroletayfun.com/) Worth a look and reasonable prices.
-
Are they still around? Original office in Fethiye shut, perhaps another office somewhere? Check what is included though if you do book with them.

I am obviously missing something here with this company. So please tell what the problem is with them as I dont have a clue?
