I know that Facebook and some of the topics cannot be relied on BUT, run your eyes over this and let us have your views.
Turkey to ban duty free alcohol at airports and border crossings
A change to the law has slipped through the Turkish parliament, while the arguments over corruption and tapes has been hitting all the headlines. Apparently it was put though during an evening session on February the 27th but has just come to light as preparations begin to enforce the ban. It is a new Law, Yasağı Kanunu 1414, which roughly translates that the sale of duty free alcohol at all Turkish Airports and border crossings is to cease as from midday tomorrow. Today staff are preparing to remove alcohol from all the duty free shops.
The Prime Minister is quoted as saying "....Why should foreigners not pay taxes? All people of New Turkey should pay their dues, no matter whether they live here or are just visiting. Why should foreigners have perks that Turkish people do not have? This is a just society where everyone abides by tax laws. This is a corrupt practice and it will now cease."
A European Accessions Minister, Dr Erick Popurane, has stated that Europe does not have a problem with this as Duty Free items have ceased to be in existence across Europe for a number of years. He sees this as a positive move by Turkey.
Turkish pundits have said that the law is broadly worded and as such they expect the ban to widen and include cigarettes, tobacco and perfume in the near future.
End quote.

Now if you had posted this tomorrow..............................................
-
I know! This would not impact on me personally but surely all these new rules and regulations are not doing Turkey as a country, any favours. Such a shame.
-
1st April tomorrow
-
If it is fact, and not someone trying to pre-empt April Fool, it shouldn't make much difference to revenue at Dalaman, as the bloody airport is such a complete rip-off for ANY goods, that most tourists are probably avoiding buying there at the moment
anyway.
-
how has that post got through censorship?
-
I hope your comment regarding the word Twat is not directed at another CBF Member Gordon, if it is, it is in extremely bad taste. >:(
-
Post amended, but I should like to point out that where I come from, the "offending" word means the same as the word Twit, is that rude also?? All parts of the U.K. have dialects, and same words meaning different things.
Profuse apologies for any offence.
-
I've just had a wee look on the "search" part of the site, and if anyone would like to go on there, and insert the word twat, I'm sure many will have their eyes opened as to who has actually used it, and how many times, in fact my detractor on this thread has done so. >:(
-
But two twats don't make a twit !
-
As mentioned, duty free can be bought at the UK airport or on the plane. The only losers in this are the staff at the Turkish duty free shops. Assuming it isn't an April fool of course.
-
I may be wrong but if its about taxes and not just about alcohol then surely it would be the same for tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, perfumes and after shaves.
-
Assuming it isn't an April fool of course.
It had better not be
-
I tend to think it is - the law number 1-4-14 being a bit too much of a coincidence ;)
-
Also "This is a just society where everyone abides by tax laws" is taking the mick just too much :D
-
And the reason for posting an April Fool on any other day than the first of April would be what exactly.
-
Sadly Dr Erick Popurane does not exist but if he did he would get my vote as a European official as he makes his mind up quickly and talks some sense :-)
-
Where is the "shaky head and rolling eyes, its a pre emptive April fool posting" smiley when you need it.

Sadly Dr Erick Popurane does not exist
As well as his name being an anagram of European pr#ck.
-
I knew the name wasn't just random but couldn't work out the relevance - well done yabanci :D
-
Yabanci - will you be on my quiz team - great spot !
-
Yes folks, this was an APRIL FOOL! Started by me. ;D ;D ;D
Interesting though, I started it here; http://www.calis-beach.co.uk/forum/turkey_discussion_forum_not_calis_specifically/turkey_ban_duty_free_alcohol_airports_and_border_crossings_54692.msg359115.html#msg359115
It was copied and pasted here; https://www.facebook.com/groups/322164184471261/
And then copied and pasted back to here again!!! ???
Sorry if some people thought it should not have been posted yesterday (killjoys ;)) but it was a pre- emptive one with a reference to today. If I had posted it today everyone would have known it was an April fool. The Turkish law ' Yasağı Kanunu 1414' in English was 'Prohibition Law' and 1414 was 1/4/14. Erick Popurane was in fact an anagram of 'European Pr*ck. ;D ;D
In any event it caused some discussion wherever it was posted. Happy April Fools day. 8)

Nice one Erick !
-
Loved this post. Great wind up. I'd imagine some folk would be absolutely brickin it. No cheap cigs, no Baileys (and other bevvies) to flog to the local bars. It ain't just the government that's corrupt !!!
-
Well you got me alright Eric, but it was so good I even forgave you for the 'early release' of the fools joke. Taught me a valuable lesson that I will keep my head below the firing line for a little longer in the future...doh!! ;D ;D ;D
-
Brilliant! Love the Avatar by the way!

It was beautifully crafted and set to prey on the minds of people who are naturally suspicious of online stories yet prepared to believe a lot when it comes to the Turkish Government. That was the key to the success :)
The greatest compliment I can pay you Eric is that I'd have been proud of that had I written it :D
-
Thanks everyone. Been on holiday the past two weeks so just read this now. It took a while to think it through, Scunner hit the nail on the head regarding the secret to its success. Problem now is that anything I post near April 1st next year will not be believed. Thinking cap on now

Facebook again, Ban it I say once and for all.
-
???
-
Destroy what you don't understand eh Dave, good policy!
Facebook has it's place, as we all do - just a shame these massive sites want to move in and take over everything on the internet rather than stick with what made them successful. Without Facebook where would illiterate people go, how would we know what pantomime character we are, where could we pass off stories without any grain of truth to fellow gullible fools, and where would we be able to see photos of talking dogs.
Keep FB going, I've learned so much about the people I know - and not through sharing any thoughts of their own.
-
Engineerdave, that's bullocks! Are you at the wind - up? ???
