Post by: Walley on June 24, 2005, 20:17:39 PM

Greetings to all and sundry my name is Walley and all things being even I hope to join you all down there in October. Being a young 55 I'm retiring to the sun 8)! Just tidying the proverbial
loose ends. I must point out that I'm new to computers, sorry for any mistakes.
I have many questions for you guys especially about electrical items.
For ex. is it best to buy a PC in Turkey or the UK? If its the UK what do you do regards plugs etc. Over to you.[?]

Hi walley, welcome to the forum, the easiest way is go to search in top right hand corner& type in what you're looking for it'll be on there somewheremyself, i think i'll go for a laptop to save on space & to use on my balcony with my efes, but i wont be over there for a while, but at the moment i think they're cheaper in England. Hi & welcome to the forum Walley, if you bring your computer with you, you have 2 options. 1 is to bring adaptors with you for the plugs or 2 is to put new plugs on when you get here. Anything that requires the use of a transformer i.e speakers will need an adaptor if purchased in the uk. You also need to research in to import taxes for electrical goods as this can sometimes make importing expensive. I would suggest that if you are coming for a visit before you finally move over, you check all the local prices.
Good luck.

PC's (desktops) are quite cheap here nowadays.

Just remember if you are thinking of buying a laptop here, the keyboard will be a Turkish one - with all the extra letters, the "i" in the wrong place etc.

You can use an external GB keyboard on both of course - but not ideal for a laptop.

Welcome by the way

Scunner

Cheers everyone, target to arrive out there is October as my birthday is 29th. First though, my lovely lady has to make an honest guy out of me: :). We did think of doing everything out there but decided it might be easier in UK. Can you have a good blessing out there???? More of this later. Aim to come for a couple of weeks in September and sort property etc. Points noted about PCs. What about electrical appliances generally is it worth bringing any? I have some newish electric tools, is it worth bringing them?
We've had some interesting thunderstorms over here and the summer seems to be over. How about out there?
Signing Off :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Hi Walley

Welcome to the forum.

We bought all our electrical appliances in Eren Spot - the prices are very reasonable.
