Title: Decorating Materials
Post by: McGroogle on May 09, 2014, 13:41:36 PM
I am coming over on Monday with a couple of mates.
This is to have a bit of holiday, but also to fully decorate the outside of our villa.
Can someone recommend a painting and decorating company for supplying masonary paint please? I need to hire a ladder to do the high level gable end and the first floor levels. A ladder 8 - 10 meters should do it. Also a small hop up or step ladder.  Hopefully the same company can deliver these and the paint too.
What would I expect to pay for a tin of paint? Not sure of how it comes, 5 litres, 2.5litres.
Thanks for your help.

I've only actually bought paint for internal use - but the DIY shop near the Sunday market appears to stock a wide variety  - I'm sure he will have masonry paint.  Tin sizes are similar to those we have in the UK.

Not sure about ladders though.

The DIY shop on the main rd to the sunday market will sell the external paint and there is different types the more expensive the better. As for hiring ladders and steps I do not think you will find anywhere as there is no hire shops in Fethiye .By the time you buy the paint, find the ladder and steps and so on you might be better off getting a quote to have some one do it for you.

Good quality paint isn't cheap. I bought some from the paint shops on Gunlukbasi Road last year and I think the 2.5 litre tins were about 60TL from memory (but I was using it to 'patch up', so needed a match.)

Just thought - my steel door frame is rusting, so needs a coat of Hammeriite-type paint. Does the DIY shop near the Sunday market sell that, does anyone know?

We have used the D.I.Y shop by the market.    They have masonry paint, they also have ladders, but they sell them, you could ask if they would rent some out.   We also us the D.I.Y. Shop in Fethiye as they have a bigger selection of stuff.  So if you cannot get the colour of paint you want in Calis they usually have it in Fethiye.
Both sell hammerite paints. We have used it for our door frame, also our front door went rusty too, we decided to replace it as the ones the house builders put on are not the best quality.

When we got our villa 3 years ago we did our own hall stairs landing (3 storys). It killed us.
Now we have everything done my Memet. He is brilliant clean and quick.
He did our outside for less than £200, quite a bit less. He has also done lounge kitchen and bedrooms.
He uses good quality paint better than the DIY shop.
He is coming to do both sides of our internal doors and woodwork (8 doors etc) in June for 350 TL.
Not worth getting the brushes out ourselves.
Dont no his number as a friend always contacts him for us but I think he goes in Cafe Pazar near Sunday market.
I'm sure someone will know there.
Dont give him too much work though or he wont have time for ours.

If you mean Mehmet (small blonde guy) That used to work for Engin, Fethiye Property Services.  We found Mehmet really good and he did a lot of work for us.  We arranged for him to paint the outside of the house last month.  I was speaking to Engin and mentioned this and he told me Mehmet now works in a shop.  He gave up his business because of a skin condition on his hands eczema, we think.   So, Engin has arranged the house painting for us.

Here's a question for you decorators:

Our house has the old style wooden shutters which are in need of a good dip and paint. Does anyone know the bast place/person (near Koca Calis would be good).

Cheers

Our Mehmet is quite tall with dark hair so not the same.
He has been doing work on quite a few  new complexs lately.
Hard to get as he is always busy but if he says he will do it he wontlet you down

There would need to be a dip and strip place with a tank and I have a feeling there is not much call for this in the Fethiye area.   I used to use a place near me in Scotland, to dip and strip pine kists (trunks) and cabinets.   I then started to do some smaller pieces myself.  It's easy to do if you get some nitromors and apply it, the paint comes off very easily.  Then you have to let it dry, sand it down and smooth it off and paint or stain it.  I once did an oak hall stand that came out really well.  However, there are some woods that could no be tanked or applied with stripper as some woods, will warp.   I realise you may not want to do this on your holidays, but perhaps you could get a handyman to do it for you?  Good luck.

They are a new company,British owned ,who do sand/shot blasting and electrostatic powder coating, they were in the process of installing a dipping tank when I had my garden gates dealt with, the result with which I am extremely pleased, about a month ago.

Sorry Stoop.
Just paid a visit to the paint stripping place, the dipping tank they have installed is only for stripping paint from metal, not suitable for wood.
I am still trying to encourage them to get some fine grit so as to be able to work with wood, they may!I suppose the more people who ask may encourage them,
